(CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, facing a string of costly ethics complaints, formally unveiled a defense fund Friday to help pay her legal fees - now surging past the half-million dollar mark.
"For Alaskans, the time has come to end the siege on our government by political tricksters. Enough is enough. With the help of reform-minded advocates from across our nation, we will stand up for what is right," said a message on the Web site for the Alaska Fund Trust.
"Your maximum contribution of $150.00 will allow the Governor, her family, and her colleagues to retire their legal debt at no cost to Alaskans and reduce the incentive for mischief by her opponents. Together, we can help Governor Palin and future elected officials turn back the tide of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks."
Kristan Cole, a Palin ally from Wasilla, will run the fund, which she described as "one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history." The group said it plans to voluntarily release the names of donors and size of their contributions.
"We have created one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history," Cole said. The group has created downloadable comparisons of the group's restrictions in comparisons with other recent political legal defense funds, including those for both Clintons and former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.
The former Republican vice presidential candidate continues to face a steady stream of new filings - the latest just this week, over whether she used PAC funds to travel to an anti-abortion event in Indiana.
Earlier this month, a Texas businessman launched a Web site to help defray the governor's legal costs, but Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said then that the official legal defense fund could only accept money from her official fund, which had yet to launch, and encouraged Palin's supporters to direct their contributions there.

But lawyers still rank above biased journalists..
It is fairly difficult for the former VP wannabe to receive financial fillip from the free citizens, given her past history of follies. Good lick, nonetheless, Gov.
There is nothing to say, except this:
Stick a fork in her, she's done.
Kitty, I'll bet you are unemployed! Send a few million dollars to Sarah and while you are at it; move to Alaska too!

I will GLADLY open my checkbook for Gov. Palin!!!
You angry dems should direct your anger at Obama for trying to destroy our country!! If he wants to bring down the CIA – why the hell doesn't he just fire all the security surrounding him!! Why does he need around the clock protection??? He thinks he is doing so great at protecting the country – DO AWAY WITH THE SECURITY WE PAY FOR!!!
1) The President is protected by the "Secret Service", not the CIA.
2) Would you want your/our president left unprotected for a moment? I hope not.
3) You are an idiot, get yourself informed.
4) Read something of substance. Don't just "lie"sten to the republican talking points with out thinking.
5) Don't vomit up someone else's stupidity.
That was the most ridiculous statement I have read here in some time. You need an education.
Last but not least, it was the Bush Administration that for 8 years destroyed America. Obama is just cleaning up a mess left by self serving greedy businessmen who thought they could get hold of the world's 2nd largest oil reserves on the cheap.
According to FAQ No. 5 listed on the Alaska Fund Trust website:
"Is there any monetary limit on contributions? – Yes, the maximum acceptable contribution set by the terms of the Trust is $150.00. Absent this self-imposed limit, there are no limits on amounts that could be donated to the trust. Amounts in excess of $13,000.00 would be subject to the gift tax."
It would seem that the sky is the limit then regarding contributions to Ms. Palin's (and staff) personal legal debts. This is outrageous.
An arrangement where the resources of many people are collected for the benefit of one person ... especially when that person is unwilling or unable to address their own moral, ethical and financial responsibilities is .... a social handout ... welfare ... directed in this case towards legal obligations.
Therefore Sarah Palin is not now, nor was she ever fit to be the standard bearer for the Republican Party.
Where can we contribute to Todd's legal counsel fund?
"Every time Sarah Palin makes the news there's a Democrat somewhere smiling." Yup!! It's me!! Haha. ...I'd be curious to see the list of "costly ethics complaints."
Kitty–by all means, give Governor Palin your money for her legal fund. Give her all of it if you want. That's a GREAT use for your hard earner paycheck and I'm sure Palin will be eternally grateful to you personally. Ha.
You know what they say about a fool and her money...
I feel sorry for Alaskans having to pay state taxes knowing it goes to her government. ...yikes. ...What were you ppl thinking during elections??? Who was she running against??? My goodness!
Typical snow billy – she wants all of us to pay for her mounting crime spree. I guess she really learned from her 300K hair/make-up/clothing orgy paid for by donors. There is no end to how low or vile this toxic liar will sink.
what a trifling loser. now that i have bought my 7 year old $300 purses while the economy tanks and I am estranging my unwed daughter from her baby's daddy, why don't you american alaskans support me. that is alaskan welfare.
I've said it before and I'll say it again..why don't Rush, Sean, Miss ann, Dr. Laura and the rest of these big mouth right wing overpaid talk show hosts write out a check and pay this woman's bill off for her? They won't even miss the money and Rush could probably pay it right out of his wallet. Or amybe Gov Palin should just wait for her 11million book deal to come through and pay it off. Or if she can wait a few more weeks with Levi making the talk show rounds just hit him up for the cash to keep his mouth shut.
Do you get an armband if you make a contribution?
The more the pro-status quo media tries to destroy this woman (and her family), the more I like her. GO SARAH, 2012!!!
As an Alaskan, I would prefer a fund to be established to relocate this failed executive to anywhere that would have her other than here. I am disgusted with her attitude, her vile opinions, and her "performance" as governor.
Wow, that's a relatively intelligent move....wonder who advised her to do it....
Governor Thunderthighs is no nitwit, she knows there are tens of millions of goofballs in this country that voted for her. She only needs 4000 of these zombies to give her $150. It worked for the PTL Club, and doesn't she remind you of Tammy Faye Baker, it can work for her.
That is unbelievable. Take more good money and throw it after bad?
Hehehehehe.
What a waste of oxygen!
Say goodnight Sarah.
If Sara Palin is such a bad a govenor and so unpopular, why are her numbers the most favorable in the U.S?????????? She actually makes money for the state rather than taking from the rest of us. You people are so hate filled and you don't want to know the truth!
Who needs Tina Fey? Palin is doing a great job of spoofing herself.
Not on your life!!! She is not getting one penney form me!!!!
