SEIU draws upon swine flu to attack GOP senators

The Senate could vote as early as Tuesday to confirm Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as the department's new leader.
The Senate could vote as early as Tuesday to confirm Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as the department's new leader.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Service Employees International Union launched an online movement Monday attacking Republican senators for blocking the confirmation of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for Health and Human Services Secretary in the wake of the recent swine flu pandemic.

The SEIU accuses GOP senators of holding up the vote "to curry favor with extremist roots," and invokes Hurricane Katrina to urge visitors of the Web site to sign the petition.

"This disease is spreading as we speak, but right now, a Bush-appointed accountant is running the department," the union says on its website. "We need an HHS Secretary NOW. Sign the petition telling the Senate to vote immediately to confirm Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. If we don't act, the swine flu might just turn into another Hurricane Katrina."

The Senate could vote as early as Tuesday to confirm Sebelius as the department's new leader.

The GOP makes me sick !!!!! Their government insurance will fight the symptoms, but what about all of us without health insurance?

As a card carrying member of SEIU, I just signed the petition. Please feel free to do the same.......you do not have to be a member.

Members of the Party of No......this is getting very ridiculous. The election was almost six months ago and you seriously need to get over it. You lost....it's over.

You see how the GOP "love" this country so much-they are willing to sabotage the HHS position- just to be ornery-they are so full of it-

The Republicans have finally destroyed any chance of reconciliation with the American people. Their crass and out-of-bounds arguments against Sebelius underscore their profound misunderstanding of what real suffering is. They would like to make abortion their biggest issue, but they fail to realize how unimportant that issue really is.

In the great scheme of life, the only thing that matters is whether people who are alive right now can enjoy their lives. If I can't enjoy my life, because I'm facing a terrible plague, hunger, disease, or war, then I can't rightly care too much about the unborn. Get off of your high horses, Republicans. Let's get our country back to prosperity and shut up about little babies.

This will be another stupid thing the GOP thinks is 'making a statement'. This will follow eric Cantor's silly use of Aerosmith's :Back in the Saddle Again" and his prophecy of resurgence and Mike 'The Man of No' Steele's prediction of NY-20.
    Unpatriotic fools.

The republicans would block their own mothers if they could. They are showing their true ignorance. What a bunch of cry baby jerks.
When will they learn that America doesn't want or need them? And in 2010 many will be leaving and have to work for a living. Now they are like welfare republicans living off the system and putting nothing in.

Swine flu is not an outbreak, nor something to get crazy over. Remember the terrible West Nile outbreak that promised to kill everyone? Nothing happened.

I agree that it's important to get Kathleen into office, but don't beat the drum under false pretenses to get it done.

Fear mongering is what got the GOP into the position they are in now. Don't repeat it DNC!

Sorry people but your wasting your time, republicans have proven time and time again they could care less about this country or the people. They will only care if they can make money.

OUTSPOKEN PROPONENT of late term abortions. Fits like a glove in the new administration. Perhaps Dr. Kevorkian to head the Council on Elder Care and Aging?

Most Republicans don't care about the people. It's all about them and the fact that they lost big in the Presidential election. They are too mean spirited to try and make a positive difference. They don't know how to make a positive effort to work with the establishment. Their royal leader McCain set the standards for that.
As far as I'm concerned the party has gone to the dogs.

The SEIU should be ashamed of themselves, equating "swine flu" to Katrina!! Additionally, "swine flu" is going to be like SARS, and "Avain flu" and a host of other things. Way to fear-monger SEIU. No wonder everyone considers you crazy and irrelevant.

Its interesting to me that the Democrats are always saying that it's the Republicans that use the tactics of fear and hate to sink liberal agendas....seems that's exactly what they are doing here...

Oh–and if Kathleen isn't allowed to join the rampage and pillage of the American taxpayer immediately, it will be George Bush's fault? This lunacy over the corrupt and inept Bush administration is almost making me wish I had voted for him! In the words of Clint Eastwood–when are we ever going to "man up" and take responsibility for ourselves in this country?

yup. They don't want people living. They are the party that wishes death upon all.

No to health coverage, just let the people die! And no to having Health Officials confirmed in time. The GOP is late on EVERYTHING. It's a consistant pattern. It takes planes flying in to buildings before they think to keep us safe. And now it takes an emerging emergency for them to act to confirming appointments.

What a bunch of obstructionists the GOP and Conservatives are!
