(CNN) - What's the highlight of Mrs. Obama's time in the White House? Hanging out with Elmo, of course.
The first lady stopped by Sesame Street Tuesday, chatting with the furry red monster and making a public service announcement along the way.
"If you want your child to have healthy habits, practice healthy habits too because you're your child's best role model," Michelle Obama advocated in her appearance for Sesame Workshop's Healthy Habits for Life Initiative.
The First Lady told employees at the United Nations in New York Tuesday that it's probably the best thing she's done so far since she and her husband moved into the executive mansion. Mrs. Obama appears to be emerging as a champion of healthy exercise and eating habits, taking up her platform by planting an organic kitchen garden on the White House grounds.
Former first ladies Barbara and Laura Bush also dropped by Sesame Street set during their husbands' terms in office, advocating children's literacy by reading kids' books to Big Bird.

I love this posting, and also notice a consistency with other messages from both Obamas: Parents, take responsibility for your children, and do what's right by them. How can anyone object to promoting family values like that?

What a perfect example for our children. As a nurse, I appreciate Ms. .Obama's emphasis on healthy eating and exercise. She makes me feel proud to be an American. Values we can believe in.
Wow! I can't believe anyone would have anything negative to say about this adorable, non-partisan, positive and necessary public service announcement...I mean, who doesn't like Sesame Street? It must be hard living in bitterness ALL the time.

If only some parents would spend time teaching their children good habits – be it eating healthy or exercising proper hygiene, there would be less obesity and related illnesses – not to mention the diminished incidence of contageous diseases. Such advocacy could not have come at a more opportune time.
The hypocrisy of the liberals here is really amazing! For the past 8 yrs they villified Bush and his family to no end but now scream bloody murder whenever anyone dare criticizes the Obama's.

If you can find something worthy of criticizing the First Lady's appearance on Sesame Street, go ahead if it makes you feel better.
Promoting healthy eating habits and exercise is surely on the same level as killing innocent women and children and torturing civilians.
Even Elmo could have run this country better than Bush and the Republicans did for the last 8 years. Thank God President Obama and our First Lady our restoring class and confidence in the White House again! Good job Mrs. Obama!
It's amazing how many of you don't realize that your love affair with Michelle stems from CNN's love affair with Michelle. Unfortunately, all those poor unsuspecting children that are watching Sesame Street today are going to be the ones to pay for Michelle's husband's spending addiction.
For a physically fit First Lady like Michelle Obama who works out daily she IS a role model for her own kids. Thus she is preaching what she practices. Go Michelle go!

At least she's trying to do something productive and make a difference to kids. The article also says the Barbara and Laura Bush made the same appearance on Sesame Street so it seems like a First Lady tradition now. What's the problem? As for the $540 shoes- let it go, seriously. Their purchase helped the economy, she can afford them, and is entitled to purchase whatever she wants with her money. People who have expensive shoes are not Bad People. Get over it for good please!

As a psychology major, I find it interesting that whatever our president and first lady do... there are those who ALWAYS find a negative point. If FREUD was right, this is all subconscious prejudice. I mean can you tell me what you did while you were sleepwalking?

Wow, I can't believe the hate posts about Sesame Street! I think all of our first ladies have done just fine lately. The Obamas pray every day, they don't need a special day to pray. What's wrong with you people? No cookies for you!
I think that the difference between Laura Bush and Michelle Obama is this. Laura Bush did not have much of a public personality, or charisma.
Michelle Obama does.
I applaud Laura Bush for her work with children's literacy, but at the same time, I don't remember seeing much about her doing anything other than PSA's and a few personal appearances. (Not saying she didn't, just saying I didn't see it)
Michelle Obama is doing it more in the public eye, which gets her efforts more noticed. Duh! Isn't that what is SUPPOSED to happen with the First Lady's public service efforts? Besides, not only is she talking the talk....she's walking the walk.
