First lady hangs out with Elmo

(CNN) - What's the highlight of Mrs. Obama's time in the White House? Hanging out with Elmo, of course.

The first lady stopped by Sesame Street Tuesday, chatting with the furry red monster and making a public service announcement along the way.

"If you want your child to have healthy habits, practice healthy habits too because you're your child's best role model," Michelle Obama advocated in her appearance for Sesame Workshop's Healthy Habits for Life Initiative.

The First Lady told employees at the United Nations in New York Tuesday that it's probably the best thing she's done so far since she and her husband moved into the executive mansion. Mrs. Obama appears to be emerging as a champion of healthy exercise and eating habits, taking up her platform by planting an organic kitchen garden on the White House grounds.

Former first ladies Barbara and Laura Bush also dropped by Sesame Street set during their husbands' terms in office, advocating children's literacy by reading kids' books to Big Bird.

I truly feel sorry for some of you people out there. You are so eaten up with hate and bitterness. No one ever attacked Laura Bush. I have no clue what you could possibly be referring to.

I am so proud to have a beautiful, articulate, smart First Lady.

    God Bless you!

P.S. They did pray this morning.

If I remember correctly, the Sesame Street crew has ALWAYS been proud of their country! Wait 'til they ban Sesame Street for not showing enough diversity!

I just don't understand the Republician way of thinking.

You must really hate yourselves and each other to see something negitive in this.

You people need to Grow Up !

Obama is our President. If you don't support him and the nation, then move somewhere else !

Its amazing that many of you can somehow manage to find something negative in even THIS...
    Its SAD actually.
Its more a testament to your own sad lives and your inability to see anything beyond your own personal bias in a positive light.
Every first lady does this. Fortunately.. this time around we have a more "realistic" and "in touch" First Lady, whom I believe both privileged and non-privileged children can actually relate to.
For all you hate spewing commenters on here... YOU are the reason why Americans get looked at soo negatively...

It must be real hard to find something bad to say about this!
However, the Republicans are very clever so watch them spin this in a negative way! Great job Mrs.Obama......my daugther has someone she can look up to in the white house.

How can anyone make snide comments when all this has to do with advocating for children? That's it. Her message was simple. Get out and exercise with your kids and be a postive example for them. No hidden agendas...nothing. Just a positive message for kids and parents.

If it had been ANYone else but Michelle Obama, the Repubs wouldn't have said a word. Because it's her, out comes the hate.

Seriously...grow up and get over yourselves. No wonder you're losing so many in your "party".

Wow, it's really amazing how petty conservatives can be. You would be picking on Michelle either way wouldn't you? She chooses to do something many first ladies do which is focus on child care issues and you hate her. Would you like it better if she were more like Hillary when Bill was in office? Somehow I think not.

All you haters are hilarious. Seriously. You are hating a muppet and a woman trying to spread a positive message to our kids. Seriously. Take a deep breath, look in the mirror and learn to move forward.

It's so refreshing to see a reasonably normal, literate, educated, and caring family in the Whitehouse. I'm sure there are a bunch of Limbaugh echo-heads that just cannot stand the fact that the Obamas are actually a good family, with good family values. While it is somewhat traditional for the First Lady to visit Sesame Street, it is refreshing to see a woman who is actually more intelligent and more focused than the puppets. I am awaiting with anticipation how Limbaugh and his hate troops will twist this into some consipiracy of the thought police. Of course Kantor will come out and say, "How nice" only to retract what he said the next morning after Limbaugh tells him to heel.

Barbara and Laura Bush were advocates for literacy in a nation where 99% of all adults and children can read. Big whoop!

Michelle Obama is advocate for healthy eating and exercise in a nation where 25 to 33 percent of the population is obese.

Now which one cause do you really think will have a greater positive impact on America?

My God! How could she recklessly promote healthy eating habits for our children! Get the government out of my living room! Unless your denying us the right to have an abortion or seek proper medical care, I want nothing to do with it!

Give me unregulated trans-fats AND give me death!

People please!!! Hatred will never get us any where. Its not that they don't reconize this day as a day of prayer, they realize that everyday is a day of pray. America needs to pray everyday so there is no need for 1 day to be set aside to to say " Look at us, we are praying'. This is sad. The article is about here doing a public service announcement for kids all the other nasty posting are imature and childish.

It is not true that M. Obama has done more already than previous first ladies. It's only that the media is tilted toward liberal promotions and actually hate conservative activities. Also, so many of you writers were mere children when previous first ladies were in DC and you really have no idea what other presidents' wives accomplished, now do you really?

    Matthew 6: 5-6
Beware of the hypocrite for they are the ones that stand-up in the synagogue and the street corner to pray. It is better to be in a room alone to pray for it is there that God will hear them.
Maybe the Obamas don't have to show off to pray. They can do it privately.
