Just change what the state does to CIVIL UNIONS (instead of marriage certificates it would be civil union certificates). NO EXCEPTIONS. SAME RULES FOR ALL.

Let the churches marry people (they would still have to sign the SAME legal certificate as they do NOW the marriage certificate FOR THE STATE)

IF ITS THE STATE its CIVIL UNIONS (gay or straight SAME RULES SAME LAW)

If a CHURCH it REMAINS a MARRIAGE.

Couples married in a church would still have to sign the 'civil union' certificate for the state.

Since the 'civil union' would be applied to ALL there would be no civil rights issues.

Are we not tired of hearing of the separation of church and state issues anyway.

Here is a way to keep them separate and placate both sides.

Churches can keep marrying and retain their separation from the state.
State does civil unions and not marriages.

Separation of church or NOT?

Why is this even an issue!!! We are people, we are tax paying citizens!!! We deserve and own the right to everything "hetero" couples receive. For all you wacked out Christians out there... I am guessing it was okay for BUSH to preach from the white house... but OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH if Obama does it then it is not right. You all are hypocrits!!!!!!! GO OBAMA

Separate but equal has never worked in the history of mankind, and it won't work now. Its either equal in all ways or equal in none. Thats life and people need to learn to deal with it instead of making things up to justify their own prejudice and hatred toward others.

They have a right to marry just as a straight woman and a straight man have a right to marry by a JP. Christians may not like the fact that they do not have a monopoly on the word marriage but its still the truth.

If you have a religion, learn that its yours alone and no one elses. If you find homosexual marriage is against your religion, then don't do it. But you have no right to tell consenting adults who they can and cannot MARRY.

I swear the first person that tells me that I am not married to my husband just because we got married by the government, I'm going to beat them upside the head.

Gay rights poses a challenge to the USA!

Lesson for everyone. Pick your battles. The government should not legislate moral issues. If one chooses a same sex partner and they are happy, let them be. It does not mean you have to agree with their lifestyle. It is their decision to make and they should be afforded the same tax, insurance, and legal options that all couples receive. I say leave the word marriage out of government documents and have anyone legalizing their relationship obtain a "right to civil union" certificate. If the couple goes to the justice of the peace, it will be called a civil union ceremony. If they go to a church, they can call it a marriage ceremony. We are all taught to love thy neighbor.

Obama said whatever he had to say to get elected, always remember that.

Homosexuals have a right to civil unions...... but it is no surprise that they want more. We are truly on a very dangerous slippery slope.

President Obama, VP Biden, and SOS Clinton have all come out and stated without a doubt, "I BELIEVE MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN."

So why aren't they being crucified like Miss California?
