WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama will deliver his long-promised speech to the Muslim world in Egypt next month, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs revealed to reporters on Friday.
Gibbs said the speech will occur on June 4 in Egypt, just before the president visits Normandy, France, to mark the anniversary of D-Day.
While Obama originally promised to deliver the speech during his first 100 Days, senior administration officials privately say the date was pushed back in part because of security and logistical issues. The officials stressed, however, that the Secret Service still has deep security concerns, given the continued tumult in the Mideast.
Gibbs said the White House chose Egypt because it is "a country that in many ways represents the heart of the Arab world." The press secretary deflected several questions at his daily briefing about whether Egypt is a wise choice given President Hosni Mubarak's resistance to making his government more democratic.

I am all for the President giving this speech but it should be given from the White House. Even giving out the exact date is very dangerous. There are thousands of people in the Middle East who would love to kill the President of the United States. It is impossible to protect him in a foreign country. Please do not do it Mr President. If there is an attack on you it would start WWlll.
This is a wise move.... only President Obama has the ability to persuade the Arab world to stop hating us (it's all your fault Bush!). After hearing his kind and soothing voice I'm sure that they'll also feel that tingle up their leg that I get every time I say Barack Obama (oh!!!! that felt nice!)
I just want the President to be safe, and take care of hisself. I don't want anything to happen to him.
Remember Egypt ain't no Turkey and basically it had its own tiger's share of terroristic organizations including but not limited to Al-Jihad, that is alleged to have masterminded Sadat's assasination in 1981. Also, Aiyman al-Jawahiri is an Egyptian born cold blooded killer who has not stopped at anything to spread the tormentin' terror. Mohammed Atta, the 9/11 ring leader, is another dead example of some of the disgruntled deadly dudes from Egypt. Just a few opinions of ours.
Secret Service, please take very, very, special care of our President Obama. He's so loved.
The speech is worth the effort, but nothing is going to change quickly. Good luck.

well, Mr Obama did say to George Stephanopoulis "my muslim religion" and it took idiot Mr S to suggest he really meant 'christian religion' to which Obama quickly agreed.

To those who spew the phrase "Apology Tour" and the slurs it implies... I modestly offer an observation:
Listening to people who never lived - not just vacationed –abroad talk about America's role in the world is like listening to my single friends preach to me about marriage after I've been wed 18 years.
You think you can extrapolate your opinions and experience into understanding... but you can't. And to those of us who've been in the trenches, you come across sophomoric.
Obama, being the American son of an immigrant, lived overseas and had enough experience being a foreigner elsewhere that he can deeply comprehend what our Texan ex-president's domestic frat-boy bravado couldn't.
You do get to express your opinion as an American, of course. Just realize that it comes with zero credentials.
What's the problem with Obama diffusing tensions and reducing animosity towards America? It's logical, essential, and overdue. It isn't Christian conservatives who despise America.
And not all Muslims are bad people, just like not all Americans are ignorant and insular.
I disagree with the posts that criticize Obama. I don't see any logic or reason to suggest this is not a very good move in the best interests of the US. Critics of Obama appear to JUST SAY NO to everything related to Obama with no logic, no reason, no maturity.

very nice; I'm sure this gathering will go along way to promote harmony around the world. but, what's this story out in the air about not being able to pull your own money out of your 401k fund..that many of the funds have invested in some very questionable securities, the funds have lost their shirt, and investors who were told that the 401k was there ticket to retirement money, can't get their money, and may not be able to get it till the end of 2009..now can anyone of our skilled Senators or Congressman shed some light on this very disturbing situation, maybe mr geitner needs to address the Amerian people on this one..
