Not a chance. Give either party domination of government and within 6 years they will make everyone sick of their arrogance, corruption and failed policies. It's not which party is in power; it's what power does to people.

Some apropos lines from H. L. Mencken:

"Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under."

"All government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time."

Wth the way things are going.. I think we're moving more toward one world government. W and Obie are just adding the finishing touch to the recipe. We can kick and scream all we want, but that day is coming. Eearth will not last past 2020... I think Newton made a calculation and the end of Earth is somewhere between 2000-2020 or something like that...

  7. Hopeful Optimist

I sure hope he's right. But more importantly than 'brand' dominance, the primary impetus should be to bury the remaining vestiges of the old, conservative, divisive way of thinking that has permeated the Republican party since Nixon and Reagan. Nixon was insidious and clever, so he planted the seeds. Due to events like Vietnam and Watergate, they sprouted. Reagan was dumb and lazy, yet he was likable and famous; hence, he became the perfect vehicle to carry on the mantra. The rest is history. And it will happen again if the voting populace once again slides into a sort of lazy, non-vigilant funk.

Shayne in NH, You haven't figured out who you are and what you stand for if you are willing to jump ship because Megan McCain has ideas for the Repubs. They aren't listening to her she is crying in the wilderness.

Not under Borack Obama! If he thinks he can hold to a second term, it won't happen.

I predict a new party will emerge dedicated to the Constitution to adhere and support with integrity, fiscal responsibility, moral values and openness to all people and ideas. We can attain a true democracy by voting on all issues at ATMs or via secure networks and relegate Congress to running government after the people pass legislation!!!

I hope that this is the case. Democrats cannot get arrogant though. They need to continue President Obama's grace, ability to communicate, and relevancy after Obama has won his reelection.

The GOP has done enough damage for the next fifty years for the democrats to clean up. The possibility of democrats being in power another 50 years or so if likely looking at a historical stance. However, I do once again caution that democrats not get arrogant and continue to respect everyone's opinion. Democrats need to continue to be relevant as well. That's extremely important.

There's no way to predict the future; Carville is being a bit arrogant. I will say this: if the Republicans want to reduce the chances of this happening, they'll join the new century and jettison their bigoted, backwards right wing for a new form of center-right conservativism.

As a Democrat, I think the worst thing that could happen for this country is any one party to have too much consecutive rule. We saw what happened when the Republicans dominated the last eight years...a party that became drunk with power and far removed from the ideals they campaigned on in the first place. I have no reason to think the same wouldn't happen to the Democrats, even if it took a few years longer. We need a healthy two-party system so one can rule and the other can provide the checks and balances as a minority party. Too much of one party just will result in inefficient, corrupt government, regardless of the party. It's not a Democrat/Republican problem, it's a political problem and neither party is immune.

i find it interesting that those who support a party in power for this long are unaware that such an event spells DICTATORSHIP

If Obama does well and leaves the Democratic party in good shape then Hillary is pretty much a shoe in for 2016, if she still wants it.

Congress as a whole generally always has bad approval ratings. However, the entire nation doesn't vote for every congress person. Typically, most constituents like their own representatives. That's why there is hardly any turnover in the US congress. If the current swing to the Dems stays yeah I would think it is quite plausible that we'll see the Dems controlling for the next 30-50 years. Maybe not by much but still controlling. I think the generation between ages 15-30 and maybe beyond will generally be voting against George W. Bush and through him the Republican party for the rest of their lives.

If the libs have power for 10 years then America will not exist anymore.

You can only rob hard working Americans for so long. I know that the Dems message of don't work we will rob your neighbor and give you free money resonates with a lot of libs in America but if those people out number the givers, then its all over.

"after all the hell we have been put through with ignorant, arrogant, Republican maggots."

Republicans just want to keep some of what they earned but this what the lib takers have to say about those who give to them. Tolerant people huh?
