Todd Palin will take his wife's spot this weekend in DC.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Todd Palin, the husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will fill in for the former Republican vice presidential candidate this weekend at a series of high profile events, a Palin spokesperson confirms to CNN.

Palin, also known as Alaska's "first dude," will take his wife's spot Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities.

He will also appear at a Republican Governor's Association dinner Friday night, an event his wife was set to co-host as a thank you to donors who had contributed at least $25,000 to the organization.

The Alaska governor decided Thursday not to travel to Washington after declaring a state of emergency in Eagle, Alaska in the wake of record flooding.

As long as the Republicans are paying his expenses, they are entitled to his words of wisdom, I suppose.

Isn't it strange how the Republican bit-players like the secessionist snowmobiler and the non-plumber-plumber are brought in front of the public and seem to last longer than the real players in the party?

I guess if you're just a figment of the party's political imagination, at least they won't boot you out of the party like they do the few REAL Republicans whose minds they can't manipulate

    Where ia Alaska's Lieutenant Governor?????

The State of Alaska is paying for Todd Palin to go alone to this function? Again, controversy follows Sarah Palin because 90% of the decisions she makes are boneheaded, short sighted, and selfish.
When you make yourself a target.....people comment! This becomes more and more laughable.........I am so happy she is WAAAAYYYY up there!

This is such wonderful news! I'm sure he will be happily accepted as there seems to be no one of real standing willing to take on this job!

Bet you that IF it was Mrs. Obama .. The First Lady of the United States of America ..... replacing her husband .. The PRESIDENT of the United States of America in any event ..... the GOP would make a video about how Obama hates America ..... but since it is the ' First Dude' doing this .. aaawwww how cute! ... sad sad world we live in

"First Dude"? No class, trailer trash. They have no respect for the position they hold in Alaska government, cheapening it by using this crass reference. By the way, wasn't the "First Dude" a member of the sessession group in Alaska? And didn't Governor "Dudette" speak at one of their events? Why hasn't anyone confronted the Dude and Dudette about this? So much for their concept of "once nation, under God, indivisable"! Alaska must be so proud of their low class dog-and- pony show!

That's better; Todd runs the show in the governor's mansion anyway (he has to; Sarah is required by her religion to be submissive to her husband).

He's not an elected official. What reasoning does he have to be there? Pathetic. With "Joe the Plumber" and "First Dude" the GOP has become the party of slackers, yokels and rednecks while Democrats have become the party of class, common sense, and dignity.
