WASHINGTON (CNN) – Todd Palin, the husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will fill in for the former Republican vice presidential candidate this weekend at a series of high profile events, a Palin spokesperson confirms to CNN.
Palin, also known as Alaska's "first dude," will take his wife's spot Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities.
He will also appear at a Republican Governor's Association dinner Friday night, an event his wife was set to co-host as a thank you to donors who had contributed at least $25,000 to the organization.
The Alaska governor decided Thursday not to travel to Washington after declaring a state of emergency in Eagle, Alaska in the wake of record flooding.

The reason why she cancels the events she says she is going to attend is because Sarah Palin is incompetent!! McCain has set this poor woman up to think that she is something. She does not know a thing! A history professor would be better qualified than she would to run for any high office. What a shame.

In this case.. there's really nothing wrong with this. This isn't official business.. this is a social gathering. If Michelle Obama attended a social gathering nobody would say anything.. same thing here. You people need to relax.

I'm Alaskan and happen to be very embarrassed whenever i see or hear about the Palins. This state is full of narrow minded conservatives who insist that they're morally superior to the less fortunate yet make incredibly amoral decisions. Ones that affect everyone. I really don't know what else to say except I'm just glad the Democrats are in the White House.
While I think she made the smart move in not leaving the State during an emergency, what is it she plans on doing? Scooping water with a bucket? She didn't have a problem leaving the State last month during the last 36 hours of the legislative session, when they hadn't come to agreement on the stimulus package bill yet, nor approved an Attorney General. It's curious the things she chooses to do or not do...this will be in addition to the high profile Republican events she has already declined or been turned down for. One wonders how this erratic pattern serves her State and how it serves her goals for 2010 and 2012? It seems to benefit neither her nor Alaska.

Nice people on this message board. Record flooding in Alaska (a state of emergency) has impacted lots of people, and the people on this message board use it as yet another opportunity to post insults at Palin (who's opting out of these events to stay behind and help). Some people on here have no sense of dignity whatsoever. How about a prayer or a word of sympathy for those impacted by the floods.
