Todd Palin will take his wife's spot this weekend in DC.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Todd Palin, the husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will fill in for the former Republican vice presidential candidate this weekend at a series of high profile events, a Palin spokesperson confirms to CNN.

Palin, also known as Alaska's "first dude," will take his wife's spot Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities.

He will also appear at a Republican Governor's Association dinner Friday night, an event his wife was set to co-host as a thank you to donors who had contributed at least $25,000 to the organization.

The Alaska governor decided Thursday not to travel to Washington after declaring a state of emergency in Eagle, Alaska in the wake of record flooding.

Am I imagining things or has The Ticker been limiting comments to double digit numbers if the subject is unfavorable to Bam Bam & The 'Bots?
Many times I've tried to post, only to scroll down and see it "closed" after 45 or so comments, if that many! And you closed the "Obama & Biden Burger Run" after ONLY THREE (yep, #!) comments!
However, when it is a possible negative story on a conservative (read Bush officials), you will let the posts run up to 300 easy!
Betcha you let this one run at least 200 comments….AND I bet you won't post this either! CNN, you are getting pathetic! Enough of the Jr. High Journalism garbage!

The reason why she cancels the events she says she is going to attend is because Sarah Palin is incompetent!! McCain has set this poor woman up to think that she is something. She does not know a thing! A history professor would be better qualified than she would to run for any high office. What a shame.

Classic. THIS is the best they (GOP) can do? How sad for a party that was once so "powerful". Now they are nothing but hot air.

In this case.. there's really nothing wrong with this. This isn't official business.. this is a social gathering. If Michelle Obama attended a social gathering nobody would say anything.. same thing here. You people need to relax.

That being said... thank god it's really just a social gathering which is going to amount to no importance in the end.. because really, the first Dude? I'd feel more comfortable if she sent oh, I don't know.. the lieutenant governor in her stead.. someone who actually has knowledge of something other than Huskies and snowmobiles :)

Prominent journalist and high profile celebs, I guess Todd Palin can't read at all because a "new suit" ain't gonna get it. Save yourself the embarrassment.

Doesn't she have a Lieutenant Governor to send? When did "First Dude" get elected to an official position in her administration? And people who like and support her continue to do so why? I don't blame Palin, I blame the idiots who voted her into office.

Todd Palin is irrelevant unless you are talking snow mobiles. Why wouldn't the Lt Gov be going.

Wonder if he can speak better than his wife. Gosh this sure will be a disappointment to Rush I doubt he will come to look at at Tod, but he would of been there to get a peek at Sarah.

Does Mr. Palin have the jurisdiction to perform the gov. duties?

Does Arnold send Maria if he can't make it?

I'm Alaskan and happen to be very embarrassed whenever i see or hear about the Palins. This state is full of narrow minded conservatives who insist that they're morally superior to the less fortunate yet make incredibly amoral decisions. Ones that affect everyone. I really don't know what else to say except I'm just glad the Democrats are in the White House.

While I think she made the smart move in not leaving the State during an emergency, what is it she plans on doing? Scooping water with a bucket? She didn't have a problem leaving the State last month during the last 36 hours of the legislative session, when they hadn't come to agreement on the stimulus package bill yet, nor approved an Attorney General. It's curious the things she chooses to do or not do...this will be in addition to the high profile Republican events she has already declined or been turned down for. One wonders how this erratic pattern serves her State and how it serves her goals for 2010 and 2012? It seems to benefit neither her nor Alaska.

Ummm...Just trying to point one thing out here :

Aren't you suppose to be elected by the Alaskan Citizenry to go to one of these?

Is he paying for this himself?.....one thinks probably not. I wonder if he took a look to see if there were any sports games or hunting events going on during this time.

What a waste of taxpayer's money. As if a more proper political choice couldn't be found... why not just randomly pick citizens to fill in for these events? Maybe if my governor or Obama can't attend something I can fill in. Ridiculous.

I guess Mr.Palin will be taking Mrs. Palin's spot as a guest of Faux News at the event. My question is why is Faux News invited to a gathering of reputable journalists in the first place?

Nice people on this message board. Record flooding in Alaska (a state of emergency) has impacted lots of people, and the people on this message board use it as yet another opportunity to post insults at Palin (who's opting out of these events to stay behind and help). Some people on here have no sense of dignity whatsoever. How about a prayer or a word of sympathy for those impacted by the floods.

Is this legal? How does the Lt. Governor feel about this. Dude doesnt enev have a ounce of political legitimacy, skill, or experience.

What a joke... These people actually think we're dumb enough to think that this guy has business in DC, last I heard he was trying to be an electrician right?

Okay now I see the pattern of the next presidential team building ... Preggo teen, Meth addicted grandma, aspiring electrician (not), and a virtual plumber.

    The real dream team .

I sure hope the Republicans keep rolling both of the Palins out as their hope for the future. I think the only people who don't get the joke is the Republican party. Listen carefully...the rest of America is laughing.
