Todd Palin will take his wife's spot this weekend in DC.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Todd Palin, the husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will fill in for the former Republican vice presidential candidate this weekend at a series of high profile events, a Palin spokesperson confirms to CNN.

Palin, also known as Alaska's "first dude," will take his wife's spot Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities.

He will also appear at a Republican Governor's Association dinner Friday night, an event his wife was set to co-host as a thank you to donors who had contributed at least $25,000 to the organization.

The Alaska governor decided Thursday not to travel to Washington after declaring a state of emergency in Eagle, Alaska in the wake of record flooding.

OK, I think Darah gives women a bad name, but this is a party, not a government meeting. It's prefectly appropriate for the spouse of any Governor or President to represent their spouse at a social gathering.

Again, this is a social gathering and the 1st Dude of Alaska has every right and a responsibility to represent Silly, I mean Sarah.

Todd...are you sure you want to leave her alone that long? From what I've heard, she tends to stray a bit when you're not around.

I love it when the Palin's show up anywhere. Especially Sarah. They cannot help but to continue to make fools of themselves and dig a deeper hole for the GOP.

I wonder if he will take about his days as leader in the Alaskan Independence Party. This party's only goal was to leave the United States of America and form it's own country.

    It's that treason?

He left the party because it took too much time away from riding his snow machine.

While I understand a governor needing to be around in a disaster situation...it is one small town of 130 people not the whole state. Hardly an emergency!!! And why can the Lieutentant Governor handle either the emergency situation or alternatively the DC scheduled events??? Seriously – Todd Palin as a stand in?

When will they GO AWAY? Please give us a break. NO ONE cares about the Palins and their dysfunctional lives. She's a JOKE, First Dude is is more than negligable, her daughter and ex-boyfriend have LONG outlasted their newsworhtiness. Please, pretty please, spare us any more stories about the now defunct, also ran, "betcha" girl from Alaska. If the Republicans, the moderates and the right ring bible thumpin' nuts are hanging their hopes on that JOKE, good luck to them.

If Gov. Palin can't have the common courtesy and brains to show up herself...leave that goofy guy home...he's not running for anything...or is he? We all knew Sarah Palin was his "puppet"...aha...now he's trying to gain the limelight. Figures...typical Republicans.

oh, good stuff! all of these entries are just what i was thinking. i actually laughed when I read the story. Madness....i do have a question though. does this man have a job or does he think it's enough to be something so crass as "first dude"? they're like, circus folks. entertaining in that gross way that says "i'll watch you under the big top, but i don't want you in my house".

@ Miss M........... I believe in Karma........ what goes around comes around! After EIGHT years of the Bush regime, having our patriotism questioned by the GOPers here on this blog etc., and having to put up with their vile, insulting comments about President Obama.......... its no wonder that Palin gets criticized!

Remember, "Miss M" IT WAS PALIN who called "some" "REAL AMERICANS"........ making the rest of us........... UN-American or worse!

Can't handle the heat? Get out of the kitchen, politics is not for the sensitive.
