Todd Palin will take his wife's spot this weekend in DC.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Todd Palin, the husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will fill in for the former Republican vice presidential candidate this weekend at a series of high profile events, a Palin spokesperson confirms to CNN.

Palin, also known as Alaska's "first dude," will take his wife's spot Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities.

He will also appear at a Republican Governor's Association dinner Friday night, an event his wife was set to co-host as a thank you to donors who had contributed at least $25,000 to the organization.

The Alaska governor decided Thursday not to travel to Washington after declaring a state of emergency in Eagle, Alaska in the wake of record flooding.

If there's record flooding in Alaska it serves them right for their rape of the environment. But go ahead, keep insisting there is no climate change.

Ms P makes a further mockery of politics, 1st her 18 yr old daughter has a baby out of wedlock, while the possible mom in law gets busted for dealing drugs, then after said daughter says not teaching sex ed is a mistake she does an about face and becomes a spokesperson for no sex before marriage ($) – and now Dad sits in for the elected Gov. of the state at an official function – truly a family affair – but shucks, she is just like the rest of us. The Palins belong on the Jerry Springer show and please God.

if we as Americans would ever be dumb enough to elect her to higher office it would be like confusing W with Lincoln, or even worse if that is possible. Maybe she & Rush should have a love child and call him Extreme. Life is stranger than fiction and Palin should go back to blasting poor wolves from her seat in the helicopter.

It would be so healthy for this country if the Republicans could move towards the middle instead of being taken over by a nuch of crazy fanatics.

I'm sure if President Obama had an engagement and sent Michelle instead the far right Limbaugh lovers would have a field day with it. But seeing that this is Gov. Palin I guess it's ok.

Let's see if he shows up at some Sporting Event so we can see the real reason he went. I hope the media basically follows him with a camera.

McCain is still kicking himself for introducing her to the US. The AK voters should be ashamed of themselves for voting the dimwit in an elected position – now she thinks she is Presidental material.

I sick of hearing about the Palins. They are not what we Republican's stand for in family values. Please go away. We have a smart women in the WH. LET ME SAY IT.... HRC IS HAPPY AND IS DOING A GREAT JOB!

come on. Liberals love to say Palin is a media pig.. but if your honest with yourselves, she only left the state 3 or 4 times since the election and didn't talk to press in any of those cases. Furthermore, the Palin's were INVITED to this event by Fox News... They didn't invite the Lt. Gov. Todd would have been there with her had she been there. This is just one of those attempts to make her look bad. I'm not saying she doesn't have some PR issues, but please.. I have honestly never seen a "news" organization focus on a single individual like this before.... Palin sneezes... Palin goes to the potty... Palin shoveled snow.... It's about 1 thing. Crazy people love to comment on Palin and CNN knows this.. Therefore it gaureentees visits to their site..

So now Sarah is sending out her trash pappy to teach her trailer trash values to the Republicans. It's OK, they're both fully experienced and qualified in this area.

People, seriously, do you ever think things through or do you let CNN and the Dems do all your thinking for you??? I know most of you will never get it, but I'll try to use small words for you

This event is "White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities." Read that through, maybe a couple times for you slow folks. He's extremely popular in Alaska and he'll fit right in with the celebs and journalists. Yes, read it again, HOLLYWOOD CELEBS and JOURNALISTS... Where does it say that the Gov or Lt Gov should be representing? Use a little common sense, if you are able.

You Dems are becoming more of a joke than ever. Your obsession with the Palins is a prime example of how out of touch you are with reality.

@Dan – I have always said that from day one. That's why he was able to sit in on meetings he is the true decision maker for her job! Now the world knows and he had to stop attending mtgs and being emailed. YaBetcha – He is the man behind her empire.

She has the degree and he doesn't! The AK voters need to rid themselves of this family and fast.

Hey! Give the first dude a break guys. At least he doesn't wander around flapping his gums in front of a mic. like JTP does. He is quite and deserves a decent free meal or two. ALSO.

People seriously need to actually read the article. Does anyone seriously believe a governor SHOULD attend political dinners in DC while their home state faces a 'state of emergency'?
