Todd Palin will take his wife's spot this weekend in DC.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Todd Palin, the husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will fill in for the former Republican vice presidential candidate this weekend at a series of high profile events, a Palin spokesperson confirms to CNN.

Palin, also known as Alaska's "first dude," will take his wife's spot Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the annual Washington event that draws a guest list of prominent journalists and Hollywood celebrities.

He will also appear at a Republican Governor's Association dinner Friday night, an event his wife was set to co-host as a thank you to donors who had contributed at least $25,000 to the organization.

The Alaska governor decided Thursday not to travel to Washington after declaring a state of emergency in Eagle, Alaska in the wake of record flooding.

Alaskan Girl has it right. Would any other governor send a spouse to fill in? That's the crux of the story.

that's a rather dangerous combination of personality traits."
So is ignorance and/or ignoring the other side. Before you start lecturing, perhaps you need to go read all the haters out there from the republicans. Take a gander over at the 'name Barak' thread and then come tell me about people 'hating' and having a 'dangerous' combination of traits.

I'm a Liberal, but I'm gonna cut her some slack on this. If (and this is a big if) she's really making executive decisions to help control the flooding in Alaska, she's got my thumbs up for missing the dinners. Hopefully journalists there will keep an eye on her.

First I need to know who is paying the bill for him to fly to DC for a dinner event! It better not be one penny of my money...I am sure the kids are going. They could continue their cruisade for abstinence! I just hope he knows enough to not ask for a doggy bag!

    Dear IndependentForever:
If the democrats "are becoming more of a joke than ever", what does that make the republicans?! Let's look at a few polls and see how the two compare- whoops, there is NO comparison! I have yet to see ANY poll where republicans fared better than the democrats In ANYTHING! You need to get a grip on reality and stop talking down to the democrats. They're way ahead of you, buddy! I have been a life-long republican (although I am loathe to admit it) and will soon be changing my registration to democrat. I am tired of of venomous and hateful rhetoric that continues to spew from the republican party.

If Sarah Palin can state "the war in Iraq was a misson from God", then this White house dinner must be "A mission for Todd"

You can't blame the dems for using this against Palin. After all, CNN did a really poor job of explaining why Palin wasn't attending the events in DC. Record flooding in Alaska destroyed all the buildings in one village, the railroad is shut down, homes are destroyed, and flood watches are still in effect. Palin is scheduled to tour the damage and do those things governors do when states of emergency have been declared – she's choosing to do those things instead of going to DC. You might not like Palin, but you can't fault her for this. By the way, spouses are often sent to these events in place of the public official - democrats do it too.

If the MSM would seriously investigate, they would find there is more to this. SP is doing preDamage control (Bristol too) before the truth comes out about Bristols first baby. Hint-this is the2nd and it's a sad, sordid story.

As of the census of 2000, there were 129 people, 58 households, and 37 families residing in Eagle AK. Population in July 2007: 146.

O.k. Sarah, this is how you handle this. You go to the dinner. You have The Dude Todd zip in on his snow machine and save them all one by one. It's 37 families! Get out! Simple.

Well, "Joe the Plumber" isn't a Republican anymore. They need a new character to attract the male redneck crowd. At least this one's good looking.
