Liz Cheney suggests Obama 'siding with terrorists'

(CNN) - Liz Cheney is picking up where her father left off when it comes to taking aim at the Obama administration, saying Tuesday the new commander-in-chief appears to be siding with terrorists.

In an interview on Fox News, the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney sharply criticized the new administration for agreeing to release photographs depicting alleged abuses at U.S. prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan during the Bush administration.

"I think it is really appalling that the administration is taking this step," she said in the interview. "Clearly what they are doing is releasing images that show American military men and woman in a very negative light."

"I have heard from families of service members from families of 9/11 victims this question about when did it become so fashionable for us to side, really, with the terrorists," she continued. "You know, President Obama has a lot of rhetoric about support for American military families, support for our men and women who are fighting for us overseas. But if he really cares about them, then he wouldn't be making such an effort to release photos that show them in a negative light."

Late last month, Pentagon officials said the hundreds of photographs released are from more than 60 criminal investigations from 2001 to 2006, and show military personnel allegedly abusing detainees. But the officials rejected allegations by the American Civil Liberties Union that the photos show a systemic pattern of abuse by the military.

In her interview Monday, Cheney also echoed recent calls from her father for the Obama administration to release classified documents detailing information yielded from the aggressive interrogation techniques since denounced by the president.

"They seem only to be interested in releasing things that really paint American in a negative light and don't give the American people a full picture of what went on," she said.

um, i am wondering how you can paint anything that happened with detainees in a positive light?
i think Liz Cheney is walking a fine line here – insinuating that the president is treasonist by siding with terrorists?
is this outburst something similar to "keeping up with megan"?
c'mon now – her father is one of the most vicious and aggressive perpetrators of terror on the planet – and even those of us 'regular american citizens' were being wiretapped and searched.
in fact, people under his watch are now speaking out about just those things.
citizenship under bush/cheney was modern day mccarthyism, all wrapped up in pseudo patriotsim.
oh, and if Cheney and Bush TRULY cared so much for our guys in uniform, they would:
    1. not have manufactured a war for profit and LIED to our guys about why they are over there – STILL – how many days since Bush declared "Misson Accomplished" on the aircraft carrier?
    2. found a contractor who could wire the bathrooms so not to shock and kill our troops;
    3. given our troops proper equipment, body armour, door locks, etc., rather then have the FAMILIES purchase and send these things...
    i could go on.
i swear, it must be something in the water with these republicans and their offspring; to be so far away from reality.
clearly (to use Liz Cheney's words), she knows not of what she speaks.

Umm...if we are releasing photos of them in a negative light, then perhaps they shouldn't have been doing anything illegal in the first place? Investigating the Bush/Cheney era is like lifting a rock and watching all the cockroaches scatter for cover. I suppose the best thing is to keep going with the illegal torture, and cover it all up indefinately?

So when the germans and japanese torture then it is torture and we try them out and put them in jail.

When the americans do it then it is not?

America has become a joke. Unless America and deal with its crimes and sins as it preaches for those of others America will be nothing more than a caricature of its former self.

With the repeated financial crises of 1994, 1998, 2001 and now 2008 – all MADE in AMERICA – America is fast loosing its financial supremacy.

This kind of close minded and blatantly IDIOTIC behavior will make it totally irrelevant.

Not to different from how the French and British empires went down.

So self-correct or become irrelevant is the message which the republicans (or the southern party of USA) does NOT get.

Maybe she's a little worried about daddy being charged with war crimes? Like maybe the abuses, torture, and other violations of the Geneva Conventions from Abou Ghraib to Guantanamo and other "secret rendition" locations were indeed "systemic" and ordered from the highest levels of the Bush administration.

The main reason we don't have a "full picture of what went on" is the self serving secrecy of Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Addington, Perle, Feith, Rice, and the rest of the Bush administration NeoCONs who were trying to make "their own reality".

    Dear Liz,

What daddy Dick's doing now is to build a case for his defense so the judges in the Hague have some compasion, otherwise, he will tried, found guity of war crimes and meet the same fate as Saddam Hussein.

This woman and her father are about as bad as the terrorist they speak of. It amazes me that the media gives some much credence and to what she says. Who is she- what expertise does she have other than campaigning for her crooked father?

Liz Cheney...any relation to ex-Vice President Cheney who sanctioned torture, shredded the Bill of Rights and violated the Constitution of the United States? That Cheney? Hmmm. So we have a President who is willing to talk to our enemies and attempt to find some method other than wasting precious American lives, versus a home-grown terrorist who spent 8 years in hiding somewhere, pulling President Bush's strings, and did more to distroy the American way of life than any foreign terrorist.

I'll take the President and Administration willing to talk, please.

This is totally OFF THE WALL! Of course, I would expect Darth Vader's daughter to echo his sentiments.
What part of ILLEGAL & IMMORAL TORTURE do you not understand???????!!!!

    a) Dick Cheney is a FORMER Vice-President
    b) his daughter has obviously inherited his talent(?) for mindless rhetoric.

These are not portrayed in a negative light. They are being portrayed accurately, its just the negative nature of the action performed that make them look so bad. Is Liz Cheney suggesting that these things be swept under the rug?

If the TRUTH is all it takes to destroy America, then honest people will admit that America does not deserve to exist. Of course, I don't believe that the truth will destroy America.

    It might destroy Cheney, though.

Anyone who objects to truth being aired does NOT love America. They just like to say so.

Just shut up already. The Cheney's need to go home. What ungracious pigs. Aren't these the same people that got all bent out of shape when the Dixie chicks said "sorry" to an English audience?
"Siding with terrorists"? Are you kidding me? This is no way for Americans that say they love the country to act. Disrepectful camera hounds.

Did Dick Cheney really share top secret information from the top secret memos that he wants to be released with his daughter, Liz? Otherwise how would she know what's in them as she claims to know?

How does Liz make a living? Who pays for her to fly around the country and give her opinions?

Does Dick Cheney still oppose gay marriage even though his daughter is gay?

The only person more irrelevant than Dick Cheney is his daughter. Why in the world would anyone care what she thinks? Your father was part of the worst administration in American history. Your party lost because it has become so radical that mainstream America doesn't support you anymore. Get over it!

You can tell this gal is chip of the shoulder of Dick. I think the american people have the right to know what went on with the torture deal that her father engaged in. I think they all need to be proscuted to the fullest degree. I wonder if Liz will go visit pops when he is looking through the jail bars..

The fact that torture works does not make it right. Americans should be able to be proud of the work our government does for us and not feel shamed because torture is done in our name. I am relieved to have a president who pulls back the curtain to show what is being done in the name of all Americans. Communication leads to respect and respect will get you much farther business than bullying will.

This is why the GOP will never rise up again. If the party is filled with racist, idiotic, and pathetic individuals like Liz Cheney, then how can they ever hope to come back in US politics? Saying that the President supports terrorists is not only wrong, it is disrespectful to the POTUS and the families of those who were killed by terrorists. shame on you, Liz Cheney.

The Cheney's are really pushing the envelope like the Bush adm. did before and when the Iraq war started. Pushing the FEAR factor again so to scare the American people again...into believing that the conservatives are the ones that are correct with their hypocritical beliefs. What gaul the have after leaving this country in such shambles...with two wars and economic woes. I don't understand why so many people are agains prosecuting the Bush adm., they must be prosecuted for the good of the country and our children's legacy.

The apple does not fall far from the tree. The Cheney's are living in fear – not of terrorism but of what might befall the patriarch when the skeletons of the past come out of the closet to haunt the living daylights out of them.

Dick Cheney, by vote of the electorate, is now an irrelevancy to Amerca. Although he recently popped out of his hiding place, who cares about the pot shots he frequently aims at Obama. Regrettably, through no act of her own, Cheney's daughter was connected to the past administration and is now equally as irrelevant. It is time for the Cheneys to leave the country alone.
