From

HERNDON, Virginia (CNN) – Bill Clinton jokingly laughed off a question Wednesday about former Vice President Dick Cheney and his recent claims that the country is less safe under the Obama administration.

"I wish him well," Clinton told CNN while greeting voters after a campaign stop with Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe. "It's over," he added, apparently a reference to the Bush administration.

"But I do hope he gets some more target practice before he goes out again," Clinton said with a grin before moving along the ropeline.

The former president was alluding, of course, to Cheney's infamous 2006 hunting accident in which he mistakenly fired birdshot into the face of a campaign contributor during a South Texas quail hunt.

nadine   May 13th, 2009 10:33 pm ET

You go President Clinton. I mean how bad of a shot do you have to be to shoot someone in the face during hunting. I live in WI where hunting is a part of life and to shoot the person who your hunting with in the face is pretty messed up.

We all love America! But Cheney speaks as if he owns it. In a real and figurative sense, he might have come close. After dodging military service so many times (five deferments), he took so much for himself out the country to make himself a very rich man (note the role of Haliburton–like Bethel Corp before it–and other financial dealings and tax break for the rich under Bush). It is a shame that this man could choose Limbaugh over a four star general who served his country so well and who is so well respected by millions of Americans. Who really is Dick Cheney? Who really is Dick Cheney? I think Ms. Dowd of the New York Times did a very good job of telling us (or reminding us) in her Op-Ed piece of today. It is so ironic that it is this Dick Cheney who is shouting from the roof-top daily now that he loves America more than anyone else in America. Dick Cheney is an inhuman abstract who seems to be consumed by self-individualism. The focus of our debate should not be what interrogation or torture works, but what value we as a nation must and should up-hold. The Republicans are so far doing a good job of deflecting the debate into what works.

Joh   May 13th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

HaHa, Bill, I have never ever ........... You are the only president in modern American History who got impeached! Obam, may be the next!

O   May 13th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

Bill Clinton and Al Gore built a strong economy a strong relationship with other nations, created over 20000 jobs. George bush and Dick Cheney did the complete opposite. This is the difference between the two parties.

Beverly   May 13th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

Cheney needs to accept the fact that he is dead to us!!! If we were so safe during the Bush administration...why was there even a 9-11??

And...why were the bin laden family members allowed to leave the US when all air traffic was grounded??

Cheney, Bush, Condi....move on people...

michael   May 13th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

the problem was that Bush wanted to be in charge when in reality Dick was in charge...isnt that the way it always is?

Johnathan   May 13th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

This is hilarious. Dick Cheney is scaring the heck out of liberals because he is telling the truth and the American people who actually follow politics believe him. Also, they want the answer for the Republican Party to be to move left. The fact is that people are going to be tired of the Obama spending spree by 2012 and the Republican Party will come back to power. This will only happen if they are a clear alternative to the left. Therefore, moving closer to the center is the worst idea for the GOP at this point. Also, I agree with MidwestGuy. Somebody needs to remind Bill that the Clinton Adminstration is over too.

KC Guy   May 13th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

This cracks me up when the Libs get in a tizzy when a Republican wants the truth to be known. You notice that Obama released only half the memo and not what benefits became of waterboarding. If you liberals say you do not agree to torture, even if it saved one of your kids you are even more pathetic than I imagined. BTW what will your comeback be if we are attacked again? Let's hope the last 7 1/2 years put a stop to it. Another little question for you libs, why was the world told of these "new" photo's of torture and Obama gets the chance to tell his people AKA the Mainstream media not to release them. Notice Bush didn't get that luxury? Ah, gotta love the spin.

George John   May 13th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Vic   May 13th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

Someone should remind Mr. Cheney that it was the awful hatred and derogatory words and acts by the likes of Dick Armey, Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, and all the talking heads of Fox News, plus the antics and brandings by Rush Limbaugh (remember Hillary's "feminazi" label - that brought down the Republicans. Nor did they need the help of George W. Bush AND Dick Cheney and his family to drive the final nail. And now they're trying to sing the same song, second verse. But as Ann Richards once wisely pointed out: "That old dog ain't gonna' hunt." It's a new day, a new President, and time for Cheney to take a page from Bush's play book and disappear.

RogerClement   May 13th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Gee Bill, didn't you fire a load into the face of a White House aide? But, I would go into a strip bar with you Bill and find us some skanks to play with while our "mommy" Hillary is hard at work.

Got to love those short-memory, bitter liberals! They remember EVERYTHING!

xavier   May 13th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

For all those hating on President Clinton lets just remeber that under his watch we had a strong economy and were at peace. Under the Bush/Cheney administration we had an attac k on New York, the worst economy in the last five years and our image was tarnished around the world.

The terroist carried out numerous attacks on American Interest, including The Twin Towers in New York while Clinton was President. You liberals bend and twist your limited brain power to beat up on Cheney and Bush who had to deal with the total incompetance of Bill Clinton and his Incredible Hulk Gore by fighting the terrorist who grew from a hole in a mountain while Clinton was President, to a world wide Jihad by the end of his do nothing administration. Bush grew the econmony 10 times over Clinton/Gore but you fools wouldn't know it. The entire mess we are in was due to Clinton & Gore.

I'd take the 2 men who only hurt their wives -altho I don't condone it-(Clinton and Spitzer) over the two war criminals who hurt an entire nation and brought it to its knees: Bush and Cheney.

Shooting his hunting partner in the face sums up Cheney to a T. He thinks he's a hawk on security, but he clearly can't handle a gun as well as he talks about being a tough guy, with that knowing, infallible smirk of his. Cheney is a screw up, pure and simple.

Bill Clinton? The great idiot who created this financial disaster we are in today by getting rid of the Glass-Steagal Act? The guy who let Bin Laden kill Americans at will without having to run and hide and set us up for 9/11 and the mess we are in today in Afghanistan? Not to mention WHITWATER scandal and the rose law firm.....what is the Clinton Body Count up to these days...I think I should do an interent search on that ...feel free to look it up yourself.

republicanturneddemocrat   May 13th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Now that I think about it, Dick Cheney shouldn't be allowed to own a gun after "accidentally" shooting his partner.

How in the world does someone shoot another person while hunting quail that have been captured and are being contained with fences and nets?!!!

That is scary and he should be brought up on charges.

michaelfury   May 13th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

He's given more interviews after he left office than he did while in office....The nation didn't trust him then, what makes him think we do now???
He needs to be 'thanking" Obama's DOJ for not trying him for "war crimes" he committed.
Bill Clinton left this country with a SURPLUS.....High employment...people were owning homes instead of losing them.....
He was a great President....You will NEVER hear that said about George W or Cheney!

Bill Clinton was a great president. Study the constitution you people. Impreach means to bring charges against. Charges were brought but the impeachment was voted down. Cheney needs to keep quiet and crawl back under his rock. Bill Clinton has done more humanitarian work than anyone I know of. Cheney needs to put his time to better use.

When will the Bush bashing end? When all politicians take responsibility for their actions regardless who they are or what they did. They are all guilty of some crime but are to quick to point the finger.

shocked   May 13th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

Well Clinton's administration is "over" as well. Funny how everyone forgets that Clinton's administration brought us our last recession, Cllinton refused to take decisive action against terrorists attacks on our embassies and the USS Cole and allowed Bin Laden to operate frre and clear withourt fear of the U.S. setting the stage for 9/11. He failed miserably in bringing us NAFTA, he signed into law the deregulation and free reign for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to create the worse financial crisis since the Great Depression, he went against his military commanders and sent in an inadequate force to Somalia without providing needed backup when it was requested while our troops were slaughtered. He embarrassed the entire country by continually being a lying cheating husband. Its over Bill.

Mr. Davidson   May 13th, 2009 10:07 pm ET

Funny its not over at all ,Cheney is still incharge at least all his plans are fully functioning under Obama. The war without end bombing of innocent civilians.Halliburton still in charge name changed to KBR ,gigantic defense appropriations, torture photos and facts hidden against the constitution nothing has changed , absolutely nothing, Bill .

gail   May 13th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Dick Cheney should go back to his undisclosed location. We didn't miss him then and if he would go away we wouldn't miss him now, but it would be great to never see his face again in the words of Maroon 5.

Dave   May 13th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

We wouldn't have to be quite as worried if our Bill would have taken action against Osama, we probably wouldn't have to worry so much. The fact that he was busy doing his own thing left his term with a "thumbs down" rather than him reaching his potential as a "Great" president.

Bill is being Too Kind but there is no reason to kick the Under Dog any more than he's already been kicked by the American People. Anyway what makes anybody feel that Chaney kept America Safe? Bush/Chaney caused more American deaths than 9-11.
Bush/Chaney caused more America grief than 9-11.
Bush/Chaney bankrupted the entire world.

Of course, torture works. But it only works to cause pain and suffering. Rape and sodomy also work. Stealing the election also worked. Political corruption to benefit super rich and oil barrons, well, that also worked.

Peace and Prosperity they also work.

Looks like The Republican Party is the only thing not working so well after all that corruption.

connie   May 13th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

I want all you people who think torture is not part of war then you let the gitmo bay detainees come live in your home town. Hey Janice,
If you want Cheny and Bush in front of a jury for war crimes, you'll have to stand Hillary, Nancy, Harry, Steny and all the other Dems who came in 2006 and said they were going to put a stop to the Bush War and never did. Even your beloved Obama will have to stand there too.

Oh, and by the way, Bill Clinton was CONVICTED by the Senate, because his sentence was a censure and a fine. So Bill Clinton DOES have the distinction of being the only US President to be IMPEACHED and CONVICTED while in office. If Bush was so bad, why didn't the Dems impeach Bush when they took over in 2006? Anybody ever ask themselves that? Hmm?

clinton enjoyed the wave of economic prosperity laid down by Reagan and GB1 and was further lifted up by a republican congress who balanced the budget for the first time in generations. This country ran itself for 8 years which allowed Clinton to play hanky panky with every skirt in the white house and how you democrats forget the cluster freak that was Waco that happend under Clinton.

Clinton laid the groundwork for 9/11 for not getting bin laden and the current economic crisis by repealing Glass-Steagall

long story short, clinton was an average pres that took advantage of a cant lose situation.

Bill   May 13th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

One only needs to look at the activity of ex presidents and compare Republicans versus Democrats. The Dems are active and engage in continuing their great public works, while Republicans sneak out of town and out of sight. The 18% they now claim of voters is an appropriate and just number.

It's really funny to hear comments like "shooting him in the face" from people who have never been hunting birds. Not ducks or geese, and no buckshot involved. If you ever go bird hunting (dove, quail or grouse, etc.) in a group , you're likely to get hit with some expended bird shot. It's no big deal. Bird shot has not much range at all. From the beginning the press made it sound like Cheney stuck a shotgun in the guy's face and pulled the trigger. It's really funny. What was even funnier though, was the way that people emptied those buildings in Manhattan last week when AF1 was on its photo op. I'll bet them folks were wishing the grown-ups were in charge...

President Clinton handed off to President Bush a monster economic surplus. President Bush took it, and ruined it.

I still am numbed by President Bush, landing on that aircraft carrier, wearing a military flight suit, with a sock stuffed down the front, to make it appear he had a pair, and declaring "Mission Accomplished".

You Republicans, with the help of the Surpremes, stole the 2000 Election. Do you know now what it means? "Be careful what you ask for, you might get it". Your arrogance has destroyed your Party. You are disappearing, slowly, but certainly.

Keep talking Rush and Dick! Keep reminding everyone what the far right has to offer: bombast and poison. Keep reminding us what the Bush administration "accomplished". There is method behind the ravings of Dick Cheney (and Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and all the rest of their sorry ilk). They are trying to undermine the Obama administration in the hope that it will fail, just as Hitler and his mob were waiting for the Weimar Republic to fail in 1932, so they could seize their opportunity.

Charlie in Maine   May 13th, 2009 9:06 pm ET

One fact remains. When Bill Clointon left office there were surplusses as far as the eye could see. George W Bush manage to squander it all on tax cuts for his rich friends. They same people who complain that Obama has "not fixed the problem yet" are the ones who made Bush possible. Believe them at your own peril America.

RSC In Washington   May 13th, 2009 9:02 pm ET

President Clinton was outstanding today!! The crowd went wild when they saw him and he stayed and greeted folks for a good 45 minutes after the event. He's brilliant, the republican's are so bitter they absolutely have no-one to say the same about.. Well, at least who's not already 6 feet under. NOTA!! LOL

How can you people support Clinton? I suppose you also think Ted Kennedy is a great guy; maybe you'll send your daughters out with these men? I dont support Chenny, but you Liberal extremists idiots are as stupid as the ultra conservative.

And how can you possibly credit Clinton with the luck America had in the 90s; which were set up by two Republican presidents before and lead to Enron, WorldCom, NAFTA, Mark Rich and many more Clintonisms...

I wish all of you would get out of my country and let us sane people live our lives.

Mike   May 13th, 2009 8:59 pm ET

Honestly, I haven't heard this much from Cheny in eight years. What the hell??? This scum bag, torturing, scam artist is trying to upset the balance, says the drug addict is better than Colin Powell???

Nice Party ya got there Repubs.........with leaders like that, shoud be an exciting, bright future.....

gary davis Harbor Oregon   May 13th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Bill Clinton .is right

tricky Dick Cheney couldn't hold a candle to Mr.Clintons ability to lead our country . and what Clinton did for our debt was great and Bush Cheney squandered it away in 8 years . I personally miss Bill Clinton and wish him well and hope he keeps up the great work he is doing world wide .
Cheney and Rush the druggie can keep right on squaking and threatening all they want too most americans by now know he and his little group of hench men are idiots and need to just go away.. but with all the lip service going on it would apear they are trying to draw attention away from all the crap they pulled (Rove) over the last eight years .. justice will prevale and might put their fonney little ass's in prison . good place for all of them. but just keep right on mouthing off .. makes you look dumb real dumb and un American

Ellie   May 13th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Someone needs to get the shells from Cheney's duck hunting rifle. Don't let the man have a loaded rifle now.

F.L. Kennedy   May 13th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Cheney The Shameless is such an insult to the American character, proudly considered to include the courage to try things the right way and, likewise, to admit the wrongs when apparently so.

Lynn   May 13th, 2009 8:56 pm ET

Tulsa: Unless Cheney speaks under oath, as he repeatedly refused to do and doesn't appear willing to do should a comission or whatever is formed, he can say whatever he pleases but it is just so much hot air. We do know that videoes and who knows what else was destroyed that chronicled the torture.

Do you really think that they gained information from torture that saved TENS OF THOUSANDS of lives as he claims we wouldn't have heard about it??

Bill Clinton was asked to respond while at an event that had nothing to do with the whole Cheney blabber; Cheney has chosen to go about blithering in softball interviews.

dc   May 13th, 2009 8:56 pm ET

If Bill Clinton would have done his job, instead of fooling around with that woman, we would have not had issues like torture, He had no less two chances to kill bin laden.....

If Cheney sticks to target practice, he won't have any friends left!

Steve   May 13th, 2009 8:54 pm ET

Cheney is putting American lives in danger by constanty saying America is unsafe now–that is an invitation for some country to shoot of a nuke or the Taliban that hates us to do try to do something terrible. He is a threat to national security.

Cheney is no longer in office to have any clue what is going on and is not privy to secret intelligence. He was not the president–he was VP and he is out of place. The terror and fear and torture Cheney caused was to the American people and those he really tortured and all the other countries "hated" him they did not fear him. He had Americans fearing him and the republicans and democrats of the senate and congress and is trying to regain that.

Keith   May 13th, 2009 8:53 pm ET

Yes, thank you Bill Clinton for the U.S.S. Cole attack, the first attack on the World Trade Center, The embasy bombings in Africa, Somalia...yes your forgein policy and national security record speaks for itself...

Renel C   May 13th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

To Robin,

Bill might be a first class swine, but Cheney is a world class liar and deceiver. By the way, when clinton lied, only his sperms died. When Cheney/bush lied, thousands of people died. it's funny that the Bush/Cheney supporters value sexual morality than thousands of lives being lost due to a LIE. Typical neocon idiot for you, lol

Otto   May 13th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

Can I add a statement? The whole Dick cheney thing is a big joke. I think it's a plan to ruin the Republican party even more than it is.

As long as the current major players continue to open theiur mouth, the more the ship sink.

I'd like more of Dick, Rush, Steele...you know the lot. Sinking faster than a rusty ship.

Andi   May 13th, 2009 8:46 pm ET

I thought it was pretty funny. I don't care what Cheney says any more than any on the Right care about what Clinton says. Quit with the 'oh, yeah, well YOUR guy was worse' crap. Clinton was showing he supports OUR President. At least he isn't making outrageous claims. Will you guys relax. We are no more or less safe than we have ever been, and that's a fact. No one has the ability to predict the future. 9/11 happened, the WTC bombing attempt in 1993 happened. Could something else happen? Yes. Is it possible to be struck by lightning? Yes. We don't know if either scenario has better odds of happening, do we? Has our government over the past few decades been unable find two magnets in their pockets – I don't have much confidence we can know for certain we are safe. Cheney's knowledge isn't all that, plus, I think he's been losing it for a while. Seriously. I'm not being hateful. I'm serious.

Jimmy   May 13th, 2009 8:45 pm ET

Jenn, Philadelphia   May 13th, 2009 8:40 pm ET

Yes, the Bush Administration is over. Perhaps Clinton should tell that to the present Administration. They're the ones who lead every press conference or media appearance with "...remember, we inherited this..." Maybe if they toned down their rhetoric, Cheney wouldn't feel the need to continually defend himself. BTW, Clinton was impeached by the House, it was his buddies in the Democratically controlled Senate that didn't convict him. However, he was guilty of perjury and suspended from the practice of law. That hardly makes him a good character reference.

For the 22 million jobs you created
For the successful end to ethnic cleansing in Bosnia
For the balanced budget
For the budgest surplus

The economy during Clinton's era had more to do with the steady hand of Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan who was apointed by Ronald Reagan. Clinton imposed three major tax increases during his tenure creating a recession at the end of his term that Bush inherited. And the job creation during Clinton's term was more like 15 million.

Whatever happened to a lively debate in regards to someone's political opinion? Seems as though most responses to Cheney's views on National security are limited to personal attacks. This trend of attacking people personally, as a substitute for a constructive debate, appears to be on the increase.

Folks, it's pretty simple, time will tell whether or not the American people were safer under Bush / Cheney & Pelosi, or Obama / Biden. In the meantime, Cheney's entitled to his opinion.

RSB, St George, UT   May 13th, 2009 8:35 pm ET

Republicans are a funny breed. They crucified Bill Clinton for getting oral sex from Monica Lewinksy, who was at the time a consenting adult (granted, it was adultery, I'm not defending him)...but then along comes Dick Cheney with his unethical war in Iraq that has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians (after he told the first Bush not to go to war in Iraq in the early 1990's because it would cause a civil war)...and his waterboarding and torture of suspected terrorists, not to mention a clear conflict of interests in Halliburton and its role in the whole Iraq debacle...and wouldn't you know, the Republicans are still criticizing Bill Clinton for his tryst with Monica Lewinsky and just want to sweep all of the Bush/Cheney improprieties under the rug? Oh and did I mention, the previous administration won't go away...they keep dissing the current administration, which is a BIG NO NO. You know, that Mr. Clinton sure has a lot of class to just not make a comment and wish Mr. Cheney well. Maybe Mr. Cheney should take a hint.

Agree with both comments below... The Democrats need to get off the Reaganomics-lite train they've been on since the late 80's (when they realized they could get massive corporate donations by renouncing the JFK-strain of liberalism). In light of Geithner and Summers' current "progress", the fact that Obama actually considered Gregg for Commerce, and the fact that single-payer advocates have been ignored in the healthcare reform discussion so far, it's clear this current administration needs to get off the Reagan-train before they can truly start to repair our horribly mangled social safety net.

Clinton great? He signed the bill that overrode Glass-Steagall making himself a major player in the mess we are in today! He was a very good president, great ones don't make major mistakes like that.

Agreed on that point. He signed off on so many Republican Revolution measures it wasn't even funny. But he was still more fiscally conservative than 40, 41 and especially 43!

If you look at it in terms of accomplishments and not partisan party lines, then Bill Clinton is the best Republican president we ever had.

keith A. Sillsbury   May 13th, 2009 8:30 pm ET

lets get it straight people, the house voted to impeach him but he was not impeached. he finished out his term and was a great president. he got caught, thats all. nothing any other prez hasn't done. but to the real story here is the end of the republican party, the joke, the immoral moral, the oil mongers, the imperialist liers. clintons impeachment was a political party move and nothing more. your time is done, your party is over. go home and fade away.

Obama is setting a bad precident – nobody talks down about the president before him. How childish. The next Republican president will have a party on Obama's record. He's already messing everything up.

He loves to make changes but doesn't think ahead to what changes he makes. I heard him say making decisions is the easy part of his job. If it's easy, he's not thinking enough. And don't even think that he's just good at it and that's why it's easy. Wait a couple of years, we'll all be crying because of his changes. But at least I didn't vote for him. I'll have nothing to feel guilty about. The bad decisions Bush made doesn't make Obama's bad decisions right.

Which president spent most of 2001 vacationing on his ranch in Texas? Who spent the next 7 years creating more enemies than we had before 2001? Look inward cheney!

Bill Clinton is a great politician with the potential to have been one of the greatest Presidents. He's a blue dog I'm a yellow dog – so we disagree on much. But his right of center philosophy made it possible to get things done. In any other country, his inability to keep his pants zipped would have been fodder for a few jokes and a shrug. In our country, it cost him the chance to be the greatest and us the chance to enjoy the fruits of that.

W was a non-entity by comparison. Cheney is Tomas de Torquemada. The past 8 years have been the worst in our history.

floridian   May 13th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

Perhaps what Mr. Cheney meant to say is that under Pres. Bush we were safer than when Pres. Clinton was in charge. So far, giving credit to Pres. Obama, we are still safe (not attacked), but the changes his administration is making on national security are yet to be proven. My prayers are that this administration continues the record established by the former administration.

Bill Clinton, one of the best presidents we have had, is a gentleman and a scholar. While it would be humorous to see him throw stuff back at Cheney, because we know it would be good and fact based, it would only be feeding the Republican furnace of hate mongering. Bill wouldn't lower himself to Cheney's level and that is a very good thing.

DEMS: Impeachment is a trial. Clinton WAS impeached–by a republican-controlled senate, and acquitted.
REPS: Really, get over the hummer thing. If that's all you've got, it sure doesn't stand up to shredding the constitution.

teegeeva   May 13th, 2009 6:18 pm ET

Dr. Strangelove was worse than worthless as VP. Unfortunately, it is more apparent with each passing day that he was the one running the Iraq and Aghanistan wars, and is responsible for deaths and maiming of thousands of our finest young men and women. Now that he's out from under the gun of responsibility, he's suffering from a constipation of truth and a diarhea of words. Waterboarding would be too humane for him. If we're going to continue with renditions, he should be on the first plane over. If he's so shot in the ass with torture, let him get a large dose of it, then see what he thinks.

Jesse   May 13th, 2009 6:16 pm ET

This is like Darth deja vu all over again.

Cheney wants a do-over in hopes of changing his disasterous legacy. The five-deferment thug who stayed mostly hidden in his undisclosed location for eight years has morphed into an annoying blabber mouth who won't STFU. It's embarrassing actually.

I haven't had too much kind to say about W but I have to admit he's shown class since leaving office. Maybe he fully understands the impossible job he left behind for President Obama and really wants to help the country.

Dick on the other hand would just as soon shoot Uncle Sam in the face it advanced his sick agenda.

James   May 13th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

I am one progressive who's more than happy to see Cheney on the air every single day. The Republicans are only solidifying the image that they are a bunch of old angry white men. So let me see more Newt, Rush, Cheney and Bill Bennett. Keep the parade coming.

Let's get the COMPLETE facts in, why don't we? It is true that Clinton was impeached, but was subsequently ACQUITTED by the U.S. Senate. Funny how the latter is conveniently omitted...

Rest of The World   May 13th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

Dear "Rest of THe World". Yes it's true. As you read these comments (as well as all of the other ones in the political columns), Americans really are this shallow and stupid. Notice all the complaints and slurs. Yet not one single bit of advice on how to make things better. Truly a government for the people by the people; yes it is. A bunch of whiners and idiots all around.

Cheney is a greedy, fear mongering, empty shell of a man. Everything that he has ever done has been to serve his own self interests, personal power, and personal investments (Halliburton). He is a criminal who implemented TORTURE in the name of the United States of America and its citizens. When is the MSM going to call it what it is - TORTURE -not Enhanced Interrogation Techniques.

Moderate Democrat   May 13th, 2009 6:02 pm ET

gernger   May 13th, 2009 6:01 pm ET

FYI Bill Clinton was impeached. He was charged by the house and tried by the senate, with the supreme court chief justice presiding, He was found not guilty It's still an impeachment.. Impeachment is totally a poliitical procedure. The repulics contolled congrees and this is how they chose to spend their time. It's almost impossible to convict a president because a2/3rds majority of the senate is required.

Dwayne   May 13th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

It may be over for Bill too, but I get the sense that he realizes it unlike Dick.

P from CA   May 13th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

Now that is funny! And I have to agree!

Clinton might be a womanizer but he didn't tread on the Constituion of the United States.

In addition, he gave us a great economy, created jobs, stopped ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, worked towards peace in Ireland, and gave us a balanced budget with a surplus. Cheney gave us war without a reason, tanked the economy, huge deficit.

Agreed on that point. He signed off on so many Republican Revolution measures it wasn't even funny. But he was still more fiscally conservative than 40, 41 and especially 43!

There's a lot of misinformation in these comments. Bill Clinton was impeached, but he was not convicted. The House of Representatives brings impeachment charges; the Senate tries the President. George W. Bush got us into an un-winable war, claimed it was over when it was really just getting started, let the man who attacked us on 9/11 go free, destroyed the economy, mangled the constitution, and had no response to Katrina. And that's only a partial list of his failures. Yet according to some of you Repubs, Bill Clinton was the worst President ever, because he had extra-marital sex. And people wonder why your party is going down the tubes. As for "Dick" Cheney, the problem isn't that he is talking, he has that right. The problem is that he thinks that George Bush and he actually did a good job. If the average person was that dillusional, they would be put into a mental health facility.

Mari( maybe one of my comments will be posted)   May 13th, 2009 5:39 pm ET

YES! Correct you are, Bill Clinton! When you consider that DICK is a criminal for breaking American & International laws on torture, the man should be careful, every interview he gives more and more information that can and will be used against him!

And....... DICK & Bush were in Office during the terrorist attack of September 11th. It WAS their mutual disregard for the intelligence reports that were *** warning*** of an impending attack on U.S. soil, using our airports that ..... DICK & Bush ........ ignored!

But when he comes out and speaks about the interrogation memos or answers his critics – you want him to shut-up.

Which is it, Libs??

Ben   May 13th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

"the most shamed president of our time"?

i'm no big fan of Bubba, but come on.

phoenix86   May 13th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

Bill giving advice on anything besides bedding interns is a waste of time.

ph   May 13th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

Bill Clinton has NOTHING to be ashamed of! He was a Great! President!

arlene   May 13th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

Wow, Joe. Really? The most "shamed" president? Maybe if someone offered 'W' some extramarital "advice" while he was in office he'd be impeached, too.

Ken   May 13th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Joe

Bill Clinton was never impeached but don't let fact get in the way of a good story

Vee   May 13th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Hey Joe, the most shamed president of all time is George W Bush, neck and neck up there with Nixon. And Cheenee is the WORST vice president of all time. So, you shut the hell up!

Mississippi Mike   May 13th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

Yeah, like Slick Willy has any moral high ground to offer advice from.

Republicans Suck   May 13th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

The Cheney's hate America, don't you know?

barking republican ankle biters   May 13th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

I hope all the republicans volunteer to be Cheneys targets for a year.

Kelby In Houston, TX   May 13th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

Joe May 13th, 2009 5:12 pm ET

Clinton the impeached one is giving others political advice. Classic. The most shamed president of our time needs to shut the hell up.
********************************************************************
Oh yeah? What about Richard Nixon? That guy was horrible. And though Bush has no shame, Bush has brought a great amount of shame to this nation. I know you would not understand, but it's worth mentioning

LJ   May 13th, 2009 5:21 pm ET

Maybe Mr Clinton, the biggest liar in U.S. Presidential history, should heed his own advice. "It's over."

The man is such an egomaniac. Just go cheat on your wife some more.

Chris in MI   May 13th, 2009 5:21 pm ET

MidwestGuy May 13th, 2009 5:07 pm ET
Bill Clinton has done more post-presidency helping the poorest citizens of world than your buddy Cheney. Why doesn't Cheney do something useful..like take target practice.

David   May 13th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Republicans are a silly bunch

One of the most popular presidents of our time AND he wasn't impeached; old Newt failed. Get your facts straight, stay out of his bedroom, and you shut up.

I wish you the best. :)

cjsks   May 13th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

MidwestGuy, Bill clearly recognizes his administration is over... this is the first press he's had in months! Cheney on the other hand has been a daily fixture of late. We all know Dick's positions, he hasn't stated anything new in any of his recent interviews. He needs to move along.

Rick from Murfreesboro, TN   May 13th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Republicans like Cheney and Limbaugh cannot believe that the country has repudiated their ideas. It is inconveivable to them that the majority of the country has rejected their utter failures at trying to run this nation. What I don't understand is how two men who studiously avoided military service have the gall to promote wars in which other people will die. I guess the Neo-Cons motto is to fight to the last drop of someone elses blood.

Qui-Tam Relator   May 13th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Dick, go stand in the corner and don't come until you are told to. Also write 500 times on the white board, I will not speak again until spoken to !

You mean like shooting on a blue dress, right Bubba?

Tim Geithner   May 13th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Why doesn't Clinton just stick to womanizing?

Ms. White   May 13th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

all done and said...cheney WILL shoot HIMSELF

Shari, NY   May 13th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Bill's sense of humor has saved the day. Imagine Cheney trying to alarm citizens with his terrorism "mayday"! Maybe, he was right. Now that he has more time to go hunting, HIS OWN ERRANT SHOTS would pose a problem to John Q. Public. LOL!

Ian minneapolis, MN   May 13th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Yeah I love how everyone forgot that our ex vice president, while intoxicated, shot somebody in the FACE while hunting. And than afterwards the man APOLOGIZED to Cheney for "distracting" the administration. Yeah, if only everyone who got shot in face on accident apologized to the person who shot them...in the FLIPPING FACE!

Henry Miller, Cary, NC   May 13th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Not surprisingly, I disagree with Bill Clinton. But not because I like Cheney–precisely to the contrary, in fact. The more the Cheneys and Limbaughs continue to demonstrate the utter vacuity of the neo-cons, the more likely it is that any remaining paleo-cons in the Republican Party will get up the courage to pitch the bible-thumpers and return the party to its roots.

Shirley In California   May 13th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Hey Dick – do us all a favor and exit but don't use the door that's for ladies and gentlemen only.

Thanks.

Gene   May 13th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Come on Bill.. stick and move, stick in move.. but throw some combo punches in there :)

EX-repub   May 13th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Cheney is the biggest crook that ever stepped foot into the white house.
He and Bush are history now, so why does he think anything he say's now matter's?
He need's to slip back into his cave and GO AWAY!!!
As far as the U.S. not being as safe, the last time I checked we have the same armed forces and the same homeland security as when he was in office.
I FEEL SAFER NOW THAN WHEN HE WAS IN OFFICE!
Do us all a favor and don't go hunting anymore Mr. Cheney!

MidwestGuy   May 13th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Maybe someone should remind Bill that he's "over" too? Something he still doesn't get...

I married allmycousins in Utah   May 13th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

Cheney just hopes to do less prison time or none at all.

Joe in CA   May 13th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

I guess the campaign contributor didn't give enough, or Cheney found out he gave to the democrats and kicked him out for having an opinion for himself.

truth is liberal sort of   May 13th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

uhh...bill...maybe you should have stuck to national security instead of 'hanging' around in closets

Georgia Gal   May 13th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

Haha!

I love Bill.

Haha!

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   May 13th, 2009 4:59 pm ET
