WASHINGTON (CNN) – The CIA rejected former Vice President Dick Cheney's request to declassify records of abusive interrogations of suspected terrorists, a spokesman for the spy agency said Thursday.
In a written statement, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the two documents Cheney requested are the subject of a pending lawsuit and cannot be declassified.
Cheney has said he wants the documents released so there can be a more "honest debate" on the Bush administration's approval of "alternative" interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists. He argued that those techniques provided valuable intelligence that saved American lives, but critics say they amounted to the illegal torture of prisoners in U.S. custody.

It's good to see that the CIA is standing up to this notorious criminal who should be tried with his buddies for war crimes/torture and if found guilty should be given the death penalty by way of the electric chair.

You can't have everything your way Dick. I believe that YOU authorized the torture and didn't disclose all the facts to President Bush. I think you undermined President Bushs' authority. And if you did, that's the equivalent of a coup de' tat. You're in hot water now Cheney.
Always demand what you know can't be given to you, then complain that there is a conspiracy...right DICK? Making public statements that are reported in the paper, then quoting the paper to support your claims. If waterboarding became such a wealth of information...where is Osama Bin Laden? Where are the imaginary WMD's?

Even without the documents public, it's clear that torture never saves lives... Let's get some war crimes trials going!

PS – It is clear that Nancy Pelosi knew about waterboarding and even torture under the rendition program under the Clinton administration. Hopefully, now she can let this go too before she gets herself into legal trouble!

As Cheney knew they would. It was never expected that the request documents would be released. it takes months just to get a court docket number so he tried one more bit of deception on the nation. Just a big white lie.

Perhaps all of you conservative christians including Dick Cheney, would be so kind as to justify to me how MY "personal" safety (or the personal safety of anyone for that matter) is on a higher level than that of Christ, who, if my biblical teachings are correct, willingly allowed himself to be tortured irregardless of his own personal safety?

I don't see how Cheney's daughter, Lynn, could ever step up on his behalf. He didn't step up for her when he was asked about her lesbian relationship, he said "I don't want to talk about that". When you can't support your family it tells a lot about your character.
It only seems fair that if President Obama can reveal certain documents due to ACLU requests, then Cheney should be given equal rights to reveal the results of interrogation methods. Meanwhile, could we waterboard Nancy (still in denial) Pelosi to get the truth out of her?

Cheney used to be Sec. of Defense under Pres. HW Bush, who ran the CIA before becoming VP under Reagan. Does anyone think he didn't know that his request would be denied?
