CIA denies Cheney request on interrogations

Dick Cheney asked for classified CIA documents to be released.
Dick Cheney asked for classified CIA documents to be released.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The CIA rejected former Vice President Dick Cheney's request to declassify records of abusive interrogations of suspected terrorists, a spokesman for the spy agency said Thursday.

In a written statement, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the two documents Cheney requested are the subject of a pending lawsuit and cannot be declassified.

Cheney has said he wants the documents released so there can be a more "honest debate" on the Bush administration's approval of "alternative" interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists. He argued that those techniques provided valuable intelligence that saved American lives, but critics say they amounted to the illegal torture of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Cheney already knew they would not be released, otherwise he would have ask for them to be released.

He is a biggest liar than Nixon ever was and much worse.

I wish Cheney would have taken a ride with the astronauts on their way to the Hubble Space Station. They could have dropped him off somewhere "up there", and he could be riding a piece of "space junk" for eternity!!

  5. GO Away Dick

I feel i speak for all GOP members who aren't apart of the Crazy Christan Right, that Dick Cheney needs to go away. No one cares what Dick says. Cheney is one of the main reasons why the GOP is tarnished now. He is an idiot who need to realize that his time has come and passed and now its time to go back to Wyoming and spend the rest if his days fishing, despite an overwhelming hatred for him within the fly fishing community. One last thing, stop talking out the side of your mouth you are not Popeye.

Oh, and one more, thing, leave Pelosi, et al, alone on this one. This was a BUSH administration issue, not Congress, which was Rep led at the time, anyway. The smoke and mirrors will not get the Republican party off the hook. They broke international laws, violated civil rights and imperiled every captured US soldier in the future.

American politics is once again spinning down into the nether zones. On the one hand, we have Obama's argument that we cannot reveal the truth about totrture because if we do the world will despise us–easily the worst argument he has ever made. (But then arguments AGAINST truthfulness are not easy for anyone to make.) And on the other hand, we now have Cheney opportunistically drawing attention to himself for wanting to declassify documents that he knows are the subject of a pending lawsuit–as if he ever cared about open debate. Something about America's having crossed the torture line to join the truly evil powers of the world continues to frustrate even our best efforts to move forward. Most of the other nations who went through similar dark years came to realize that truth-telling was part of a necessary process of healing themselves. Sometimes, though, it took them many years, even decades.

what's that? The document TOTALLY implicates Nancy Pelosi...and after reviewing them, Obama decides he doesn't want them released after all?

Dick Cheney and the people who support him still do NOT get it. Whether or not it can be proved that torture works is NOT the issue, and there are many experts in this area who state that it does NOT. The principle which Cheney continues to ignore or not understand is that the United States is not supposed to do the same things that our enemies do in order to achieve an end. We're supposed to be a country of laws that believes in human rights, due process and civilized treatment of our prisoners, whether they wear a uniform or not. These are just a few of the tenets on which we base our claims of greatest as a country. Dick Cheney is deperately trying to justify a policy which he enthusiastically supported for 8 years, by somehow proving that evil is justified if it works.

So, he wants just TWO of the god knows how many documents about torture (oh, excuse me...enhanced interrogation techniques) released. Didn't he say on tv that they should release them ALL. He is such a deceitful crook!

Didn't people who were actually there during these torture sessions just testify to congress? That, to me, is more important that two little memos!

We always KNEW Cheney was and still IS a WAR CRIMINAL. Dicky is scared sh_tless knowing the TRUTH will come out.

Why do you think this clown is flapping his gums so much? Nothing but flap, flap, flap...

I'll bet Cheney knew very well that those documents could not be released, that's why he only asked for certain pages of only two documents. This guy is pure slim1

This is a classic Democratic coverup being managed by Obama. The honeymoon is over and Obama is down in the much with the other dishonest Democrats. Shame on President Oblamo.

Well now, how does it feel to run up against a brick wall? Poetic justice is what I say. After years of hiding and remaining at "undisclosed" locations and keeping information from the public on just what the heck you were doing? It all comes home to roost. Just go home, Cheney, and take your daughter with you.

If I honestly beleived that Mr.Cheney acted honestly in the best interests of the American people during his time as vice-president I would say let him. The fact is he did'nt, he is a manipulative war-monger and should step out of the public eye NOW. He is a disgrace and a shame to his nation. I'm sure Haliburton would disagree.

Ms. Dick Cheney had 8yrs to release these torture memos, but he refused....now that the dark days of torture he orchestrated in the White House are catching up with him; he is spewing gibberish to protect his dying & warped legacy!

Ms. Cheney is a torture mogul and he should spend the rest of his life in jail being tortured and waterboarded!!!!!!

Cover up for Obama. Plain and simple. We want transparency. Let the truth be known. Obama made the charges. Let him come clean or retract the charges. COVER UP!

The CIA should declassify the briefing given to Pelosi. She is obviously lying to cover herself.

The dishonesty and lack of moral courage of those in Congress, starting with the leadership, is disgusting. Pelosi is a joke and an embarrassment.

At least Cheney is attempting to open an honest debate on the matter, something I suspect the Democrats do not want, anything "honest".

I seriously doubt this guy even knows the meaning of "honest". I think maybe we'll need a re-enactment of these "alternative" techniques, with Cheney as the suspect terrorist.

HA! Cheney wants to declassify at will again. Well maybe, like the ACLU did, Cheney could file a Freedom of Information request (FOIA)...wait..he hates those! Talk about Dante's personal ring for secrecy.
