WASHINGTON (CNN) – The CIA rejected former Vice President Dick Cheney's request to declassify records of abusive interrogations of suspected terrorists, a spokesman for the spy agency said Thursday.
In a written statement, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the two documents Cheney requested are the subject of a pending lawsuit and cannot be declassified.
Cheney has said he wants the documents released so there can be a more "honest debate" on the Bush administration's approval of "alternative" interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists. He argued that those techniques provided valuable intelligence that saved American lives, but critics say they amounted to the illegal torture of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Cheney already knew they would not be released, otherwise he would have ask for them to be released.

I feel i speak for all GOP members who aren't apart of the Crazy Christan Right, that Dick Cheney needs to go away. No one cares what Dick says. Cheney is one of the main reasons why the GOP is tarnished now. He is an idiot who need to realize that his time has come and passed and now its time to go back to Wyoming and spend the rest if his days fishing, despite an overwhelming hatred for him within the fly fishing community. One last thing, stop talking out the side of your mouth you are not Popeye.
Oh, and one more, thing, leave Pelosi, et al, alone on this one. This was a BUSH administration issue, not Congress, which was Rep led at the time, anyway. The smoke and mirrors will not get the Republican party off the hook. They broke international laws, violated civil rights and imperiled every captured US soldier in the future.

American politics is once again spinning down into the nether zones. On the one hand, we have Obama's argument that we cannot reveal the truth about totrture because if we do the world will despise us–easily the worst argument he has ever made. (But then arguments AGAINST truthfulness are not easy for anyone to make.) And on the other hand, we now have Cheney opportunistically drawing attention to himself for wanting to declassify documents that he knows are the subject of a pending lawsuit–as if he ever cared about open debate. Something about America's having crossed the torture line to join the truly evil powers of the world continues to frustrate even our best efforts to move forward. Most of the other nations who went through similar dark years came to realize that truth-telling was part of a necessary process of healing themselves. Sometimes, though, it took them many years, even decades.
what's that? The document TOTALLY implicates Nancy Pelosi...and after reviewing them, Obama decides he doesn't want them released after all?
Dick Cheney and the people who support him still do NOT get it. Whether or not it can be proved that torture works is NOT the issue, and there are many experts in this area who state that it does NOT. The principle which Cheney continues to ignore or not understand is that the United States is not supposed to do the same things that our enemies do in order to achieve an end. We're supposed to be a country of laws that believes in human rights, due process and civilized treatment of our prisoners, whether they wear a uniform or not. These are just a few of the tenets on which we base our claims of greatest as a country. Dick Cheney is deperately trying to justify a policy which he enthusiastically supported for 8 years, by somehow proving that evil is justified if it works.
So, he wants just TWO of the god knows how many documents about torture (oh, excuse me...enhanced interrogation techniques) released. Didn't he say on tv that they should release them ALL. He is such a deceitful crook!
Didn't people who were actually there during these torture sessions just testify to congress? That, to me, is more important that two little memos!
