WASHINGTON (CNN) – The CIA rejected former Vice President Dick Cheney's request to declassify records of abusive interrogations of suspected terrorists, a spokesman for the spy agency said Thursday.
In a written statement, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the two documents Cheney requested are the subject of a pending lawsuit and cannot be declassified.
Cheney has said he wants the documents released so there can be a more "honest debate" on the Bush administration's approval of "alternative" interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists. He argued that those techniques provided valuable intelligence that saved American lives, but critics say they amounted to the illegal torture of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Cheney is cementing his legacy as a hardball partisan. We have seen and heard more from him since he left office than we did during his eight years in office.
His desire for transparency now is simply self serving.

Why didn't he have the information disclassified or whatever? He's trouble; he was trouble for the past 8 years and now he must be afraid his evil deeds are going to haunt him.
As Cheney knew they would thus giving him the best of all possible worlds – he can make up wild stories about saving Planet Earth by waterboarding an Arab and not fear that the CIA will blow up his story by releasing the truth.

Perhaps someone should file suit against Cheney or perhaps the Justice department should indict him for abuse of power or perhaps the World Court could try him on war crimes. Then he should be able to look at those documents all he wants.

If Dick Cheney wants an honest debate on the effectiveness of his favorite "interrogation methods", then he needs to also account for the number of terrorists that have joined their movement because of the interrogations and account for the number of American soldiers that have been killed by them.

Dick Cheney gained my respect when he started an endowment at the University of Wyoming for students to travel abroad. Now if you're a UW student who wishes to study abroad, your travel is paid for. As a socially liberal, fiscally conservative ex-republican, I believe this man is the party's number three enemy, behind only Mr. Limbaugh and Sarah Palin, because of the games he played in office and continues to play now. It is impossible for Cheney to forget himself, like the majority of the country has been trying to do, so it seems to me he's trying to come to terms with his own conscience. To quote Dispatch– "Go now, you are forgiven" - and give the republicans back their party.
Isn't shooting someone in the face illegal? Man, Cheney gets away with everything...haha.
