CIA denies Cheney request on interrogations

Dick Cheney asked for classified CIA documents to be released.
Dick Cheney asked for classified CIA documents to be released.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The CIA rejected former Vice President Dick Cheney's request to declassify records of abusive interrogations of suspected terrorists, a spokesman for the spy agency said Thursday.

In a written statement, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the two documents Cheney requested are the subject of a pending lawsuit and cannot be declassified.

Cheney has said he wants the documents released so there can be a more "honest debate" on the Bush administration's approval of "alternative" interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists. He argued that those techniques provided valuable intelligence that saved American lives, but critics say they amounted to the illegal torture of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Torture didn't find any WMDs in Iraq and it hasn't found Osama yet. It doesn't work.

Liberals don't want an honest debate because they would lose. They want only to make accusations with no evidence or cherry-pick the evidence that supports their accusations and ignore the evidence that deos not and repeat those accusations until more people believe they are fact.

How is blaming Pelosi for hearing about torture in a classified meeting and not saying anything about it a honest debate?

How is justifying illegal torture because it got us intel an honest debate?

Lets face facts, we already knew everything we should have. NSA was recording all the calls to the safe house in Somalia, it know the highjacker locations, names, ect.. but did not share the intel.

If we have to really on one person for all out intel, we are in trouble. Intel is only good when it can be confirmed from several sources. If only one source, it is a wild goose chase.

This is s destraction from the FACT – TORTURE IS ILLEGAL. We prosecuted other countries for doing it. The legal opinions have been thrown out years ago. Chaney should go to jail.

DICK Cheney – time to go away now and shut up and live with the nightmares of how your administration screwed the country up. You are an EX-vp now and have no federal responsibilities. Go back to your Wyoming ranch and shoot something. Good bye.

I think Cheney is trying to seek a deal for a reality show or something! He's seriously losing the little bit of a mind that he have left. Strange that is making so noise, which is usually done when a person is guilty,...the normal politician routine!

I am sure the last thing Dick Cheney wants is an honest debate. He will likely twist things as he did while in the White House – to suit his own political aims (remember his take on intelligence in the run up to the Iraq war anyone? Or how about his despicable leaking of the identity of a U.S. operative to Bob Novak?

Cheney is either the biggest traitor we have ever had in the history of the US or just living in an alternate reality.
I'm sure he's well meaning, but he completely misunderstands what this country is all about. He'll remain adamant that he was right until the day he dies and no amount of evidence will change his mind.
We are supposed to be the nation that takes the high road. No amount of weapons and technology will win a war from the moral lowground.

Cheney and Pelosi are peas in a pod, just on different ends of the political spectrum. Can't believe anything that comes out of either of them.

Cheney just wants to cherry-pick, just like he accuses Obama. If he wants "honest debate," then why not put out the photos, too? Considering that we did nothing wrong, according to him.

Somebody needs to remind Mr. Cheney that he is now a private citizen with no more clout than you or I. He's starting to look like a jerk who's got too much time on his hands

Since we know that democrats have lied and slandered the last administration for 7 years. The questions is will the media start investigating this cover up by the democrats trying to cover Pelosi butt and the real culture of corruption the democrats?

Wish this guy would just shut up and leave this country alone so we can heal from the past 8 years of hateful mismanagement and malfeasance on his part. No one cares about him, but he can't get that through his thick skull. How much more does he want to damage his reputation? He has already shown what a total bigot he is by choosing to side with Blimpbag over Colin Powell. That sure says alot about this Dick, Cheney!

    @ Eleanor

Exactly right! This isn't open to debate. It's black and white.

Why should Cheney be entitled to anything? He's a private citizen now.

Now is not the time to decide the legacy of the Bush administration. Let us allow history to take it's course naturally.

Cheney needs to be prosecuted and held in a high security prison. He seems to have forgotten the ideals that this country was founded on. The man is pure evil.
