PEOPLE: Bristol Palin graduates high school

Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.
Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.

Looking like a lot of her classmates – giddy and irreverent, wearing a silly necklace of Blow-Pop lollipops strung together with curly gift ribbon – Bristol Palin stepped toward the stage in Wasilla Sports Complex Thursday night to receive her high school diploma, more a worried mom than a jubilant teen.

"Where's my baby?" Bristol mouthed, searching the two front rows where her family sat until she finally spotted son Tripp near the backstage door, where Bristol's Aunt Heather was feeding the infant a bottle. With a wave to the little one she alternately calls "Handsome" and "My Guy," Bristol crossed the stage – and crossed "graduate high school" off her to-do list.

"I knew it would be hard work, but I knew I was going to do it," Bristol, 19, tells PEOPLE.

  1. Bristol has it made now....

with her mom cashing in on her book for $5-7 million, Bristol's future looks bright-not so for most Obama supporters who are losing their jobs daily--

Of course, she's receiving special treatment because her mother is the governor. The other kids that miss that much school are not allowed to graduate with their class.

CNN, can we move on. Enough of these Palins. There is nothing special about Bristol Palin and her graduation.

What is the matter with you people? Here is why this is news – it is showing other teen mothers out there that it can be possible to complete high school in a situation such as hers. Granted, probably a bit easier in her situation, but it is still a good example. And quite frankly what would you rather be reading? Horror stories of tragedy death and destruction? Boy I'm glad I'm not a cynical person, and am able to enjoy a short newsclip with some nice info every once in a while.

(PS – for all of you who made comments about it not being newsworthy – why exactly is it that you clicked on the news link?)

Has us running scared? Right, beacsue she's such a threat that she might pick up that 14% of America that still likes her in the next election. That just scares the crap out of me, really. I want Barak Obama to have a harder contest than that.

This story need some vetting! How does someone go from being a drop out to getting a high school diploma?. Something doesn't smell right. Sarah Palin must have bought her way into Bristol's graduating by using extortion.

This got to be a GED.. Unless AK's credit requirement substantially lower than all the other states? Oh I fogot it is – her mom is gov with less requirements to read. AK your requirements need to be rise b/c we do not need sub standards in the lower 48 trying to complete to be POTUS. Bristol don't try it with your GED

Leave this kid alone. She is facing up to her responsiblities and living right. Let's at least have a hiatus on "Bristol news" until her mother gets back into the national spotlight. Then CNN and the drive-by media can get into their feeding frenzy again.

This is not news – who cares?
Also, your headline should read "Bristol Palin graduates FROM high school." What is wrong with your editors? Do they not take basic grammar courses? Prepositions are your friends.

  17. Republicans are the American Taliban

Now let's see Bristol do the right thing and dash down to the recruiters office and enlist in the Army. Whe can look at photos of her signing up like when Elvis joined. Couple of tours in Afganistan will electrify the Republican base, and show her patriotism as a " true American ".

I don't have a thing against Bristol Palin. She's just been a pawn of her parents. I'm glad she's graduated from HS, but, IS IT REALLY NEWSWORHY? How many other kids have graduated this spring, having overcome extreme difficulties. Why don't you focus on them?

Describing Bristol Palin as "giddy and irreverent" is not quite accurate. How about haughty and irrelevant? Don't get me wrong: I'm happy she graduated from high school. But it's time Bristol to revert back to where she is necessary, as a mother to her child rather than being a focal point for the media and a spokesperson for abstinence (What?). Good luck.

i think this whole issue is really pathetic...She is the last person who should be out trying to give adivce to anyone. Does she think she is only teenage in the world who had a baby out of wedlock..Only difference is unlike most teenage mothers, she has a wealthy family to fall back on..She really can not relate to the everyday teenager and she needs to stop pretending

"Liberals of the world, people are finally getting feed up with your mean spirited comments. You have ruined our country with your liberal beliefs and jammed your way of thinking down our thoats. The truth is you put to much belief in what you hear on CNN..."

First of all, you're reading CNN. Second, Republicans are just as nasty and mean spirited, they're just not the majority anymore.
Third: it's "fed up," "too much," and you are in no position to judge if you believe in "judgement." Read your Bible again, you are not fit to judge anyone or stand from a moral high ground.

    Bristol
I too had a baby too young. She will be 35 this year.

I am proud of you for graduating. I know having a child at your age is very hard. You go on with your dreams! College next I hope, then a good job to support your family.

I hate some of these comments that continue to divide us even though the election is over. It is now time to be Americans.

Congrats to you! You go, girl!!!!!!
If you must know, rabid liberal.
