PEOPLE: Bristol Palin graduates high school

Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.
Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.

Looking like a lot of her classmates – giddy and irreverent, wearing a silly necklace of Blow-Pop lollipops strung together with curly gift ribbon – Bristol Palin stepped toward the stage in Wasilla Sports Complex Thursday night to receive her high school diploma, more a worried mom than a jubilant teen.

"Where's my baby?" Bristol mouthed, searching the two front rows where her family sat until she finally spotted son Tripp near the backstage door, where Bristol's Aunt Heather was feeding the infant a bottle. With a wave to the little one she alternately calls "Handsome" and "My Guy," Bristol crossed the stage – and crossed "graduate high school" off her to-do list.

"I knew it would be hard work, but I knew I was going to do it," Bristol, 19, tells PEOPLE.

Not a fan of the Palin family. But I give Bristol credit for completing high school. Too many teen moms drop out.

I wouldn't consider this a "newsworthy" story. This should be categorized under "celeb" gossip and be left to TMZ to cover, not CNN. Congratulations to Bristol, but devoting a news segment/web page to something as unremarkable as an individual's high school graduation is a waste of CNN's time and resources. (and yes, I understand she is a single teen mom...lots of girls are) CNN/Fox News/MSNBC/etc, stop covering the Palins and please move on....

Except for the fact that her mother is the Governor of Alaska. She's so connected that she doesn't need a college degree!! Which is why Sarah Palin's kid can keep the baby without ruining her life but no one else can.

BFD – unwed mothers graduate high school all the time – they just aren't part of the Wasilla Hillbilly saga.

This is NOT news – e-gossip rampages on.

How our standards for child rearing have slipped. Now simply graduating from high school after giving birth is worthy of congratulatory praise? Ugh. No wonder the rest of the world is beating us in science in math. We're rewarding mediocrity and promiscuity.

It is nice that she made it. How does she plan on supporting the child now that she has finished high school? Does she plan on taking college classes at all? I would really like to know what she would do if her son got a girl pregnant at the same age she was pregnant with him... That will be truly telling.

  18. Please!

Ok! That good. But didn't she miss a lot of school last year
This is a lie and you couldn't get me to believe it – This family is a mess with made up lies. I would like to see her made up grades as well.

I wonder what all the other students think of the privy family being able to make up a lie and get away with it- right in front of the world.
