PEOPLE: Bristol Palin graduates high school

Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.
Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.

Looking like a lot of her classmates – giddy and irreverent, wearing a silly necklace of Blow-Pop lollipops strung together with curly gift ribbon – Bristol Palin stepped toward the stage in Wasilla Sports Complex Thursday night to receive her high school diploma, more a worried mom than a jubilant teen.

"Where's my baby?" Bristol mouthed, searching the two front rows where her family sat until she finally spotted son Tripp near the backstage door, where Bristol's Aunt Heather was feeding the infant a bottle. With a wave to the little one she alternately calls "Handsome" and "My Guy," Bristol crossed the stage – and crossed "graduate high school" off her to-do list.

"I knew it would be hard work, but I knew I was going to do it," Bristol, 19, tells PEOPLE.

@ Joe the Troll, who said "her mom will find her a position "

I'm sure she's already found her preferred "position"

Good for Bristol. Is CNN going to be reporting on all graduates who are unwed mothers now?

Nice to see CNN throwing this story out there as some red meat to all the liberal nutjobs...

    CNN,

This is a political ticker! The fact that she is the daughter of Governor Palin does not mean any news from her that has nothing to do with politics should be posted. Leave that to the People Magazine!

  6. Nathan,

Now all she needs to do is go to 5 mediocre colleges in 4 years and then she'll be qualified to be governor of Alassssska.

Its unfortunate for her that her mother is the biggest yahoo on the political scene. She knew that her daughter was pregnant yet she put her own ambitions ahead of her daughters need for privacy and accepted the nomination. This girl is probably fairly normal whsn you take into account who her mother is.

It's great nowadays that any kid can fihish high school and not have to get a GED or drop out. My question is WHY IS THIS IN POLITICAL TICKER? Come on CNN I'm sure there are a lot of other folks in politics that have children or grandchildren graduatiing from high school this year. Why not post ALL of them?

As much as I do not agree with Sarah Palin's politics, I do think it nice that her family is support of Bristol. It will be a tough life for Bristol and her baby without the dad. It is a hard pill to swallow when you have done the thing you are now telling others not to. Why couldn't she have not gotten pregnant and told her message? Maybe with time, she will gain the wisdom to realize that many people walk different paths in life and it is our responsibility as a society and government to help people stay on the straight and narrow legally and health wise. Abortion is not the primary form of birth control but a last resort.

CNN: Nice you leave a link up where everyone can rip on a high school kid simply because her Mom is a Republican, but you permalink the one on military tribunals where Obama actually agrees with something the Bush administartion did. NICE. Your political tendencies are showing...

It is not as if she is the only one to do this. I did it 14 years ago! You are not the first to graduate from high school with a baby Bristol!

How about we focus on the people who are not in the public eye and who actually have to go to a job everyday and still manage to graduate!

You have NO idea what it is like in the real world when you are a teen mother!

    She's a great example....

See other teenage girls, there is nothing wrong with not using protection and having a baby while you're still in high school.

    Way to goal Briston!

I'm not a fan of the Palins but I do understand how had it is to finish High School in her particular situation. Glad she hung in there and I hope she continues her education. She will need it.

I'm really proud of you for following your dream. Go to college, if you can, because Women can go to college and be a great Mom too. Don't let anyone stop you from your dream for a good life for you and Tripp. Congrats...

Accountability. Oh, another misogynist. Excuse me?! First: Bristol already has the best job in the world, the most important with the greatest impact of all. Second: Where did you get the false notion that college is a prerequisite to getting a good job and being successful? She's not alone in this and knowing how women take on challenges and meet them head on, she'll be just fine.

Congratulations Bristol! You're a young mother with a lot of responsiblity and you've handled youself with class despite the tongue lashings of the big left wing hypocrite machine. The same party that holds John Edwards and Bill Clinton up on a pedestal.
