Steele: Dr. Phil on Supreme Court

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Picking on President Obama's statement that he's searching for a Supreme Court justice with "empathy" for ordinary Americans' problems. Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele joked Friday that the president is "looking to put Doctor Phil on the Court."

Addressing the National Rifle Association, Steele warned that "liberal Democrats could control every lever of every branch of government" if Obama picks a "young, activist, left-wing justice."

"Supreme Court justices hold lifetime appointments," Steele said according to his prepared remarks. "That is why it is imperative that President Obama take his time and search for a nominee with the wisdom and grounding to interpret the laws of our great nation – not one who will have a knee jerk desire to 'empathize' with the concerns of Americans. Sounds like instead of another Judge Roberts, the President is looking to put Doctor Phil on the Court."

Steele also criticized Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for a recent report warning of "right-wing extremism," calling it "silly" and "sad." He said it is "ironic" that some Democrats are trying to restrict gun ownership while considering bringing detainees from Guantanamo Bay to prisons in the United States.

"It is ironic, to say the least, that at the same time Democrats in Congress are threatening to deny Americans their second amendment right to own a firearm and defend their families and homes, they are considering bringing terrorists like 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and other Al Qaeda detainees to our communities once the President follows through on his campaign promise to close Guantanamo Bay," Steele said.

Perhaps Stlle's title should be changed to "Spokesperson for RNC Chair Rush Limbaugh."

Republicans need a dictionary. They have no idea what empathy means and their ignorance has led them to believe that it's some sort of liberal code word.

Webster defines "empathy" – the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner.

Or is empathy a trait reserved for liberals like me?
I am so proud to be a shiney blue bleeding heart liberal democrat...and I have a post high school vocabulary

The moment the republican party becomes a non-factor, what do they do? They put a man with dark skin in charge, not a black man, just one with dark skin to be a scapegoat. But this fool Steele, for some reason, can't or refuse to see that he is being played. What a DOOFUS!!! HE IS THE TRUE CATCHER FREEMAN!!

Mr Steele you are a blackman what are you doing? Don't you know you are supposed to be a puppet for the dems. They will take care of you. You are not supposed to think for yourself.

You need the Government to take care of you!

I must admit, after reading Mr. Steeles comments, I needed a glass of water from laughing so hard....

How about we change the name of the "Republican Party", to the "Party of Clowns and Entertainers", cause man it sure is comical listening to these people....

It's like they think their important, but their actually only 21% of our population, thank god for that........

This is WHY no one takes this goof ball seriously. He's nothing but a clown. Michael Steele needs to stop trying to be a Hip Hop Comedian and worry about his own butt.

The RNC is plotting and planning his exit right now as we speak. So who do you think will have the last laugh, Dr. Phil or Michael Steele?

I'm sure that Michael Steele is able to play to the fears of the party faithful with his silly statements. But really Michael, don't you want anyone else to join your party?

Every time Mr. Steele opens his mouth, he proves to the world not only is he in over his head, but he is also a certified idiot!

And yet you voted for Obama?

Thanks for the babbling hysteria, Mike, but unless you're in the a maximum-security Federal prison, it's unlikely you'll be seeing the Sheik or any of his compadres in your community for about the next 150 years.

What a bunch of bull. You have to wonder how these Repiglicans can wake up in the morning, knowing they're going to spend the day in a world of altered reality, and spin lies one after another after another.

Even the subject of this article is stupid. President Obama is looking to put a qualified person with empathy on the Supreme Court.

This man is an example of the type person who helped enslave blacks during the time of slavery. He is the single most clear example of an "Uncle Tom" presented since that time. The sad thing is that he does not realize how much he is being used. If he had common sense, he would realize that all judges should have empathy. The Dr. Phil comment makes no sense at all.

CNN, please find another picture of him.

This guy is the best player on the Dems team. He probably deserves to be fired, but we can only hope he stays on. He reflects the true shallowness of the GOP.

I am a Democrat. I am no fan of guns. But I would stand beside anyone and fight for their right to own them because it IS guaranteed in the Constitution.

BUT - we're also guaranteed the freedom to buy a car and move about the country freely...IF we're properly licensed, registered, tagged and insured. Know why? Because CARS CAN KILL PEOPLE.

So - why is it that so many people fight so hard to keep guns totally unregulated and freely accessible? BECAUSE IT MAKES THE GUN MANUFACTURERS A CRAPLOAD OF MONEY. By the way - if you check the books of the NRA, I'm sure you'll find their biggest, highest-paying members are the same people to make and sell the guns and ammunition.

Try as you might there is, simply, no logical argument that can be made against properly training and licensing people to own guns, the same as cars. Neither is a restriction of your rights and both are a protection of innocent people.

The NRA, however, also being a major contributor to the Republicans, uses the Republicans to SCARE their diminishing constituency into thinking the worst - that all guns are gonna be gobbled snatched from your hands by the evil Dems who want to take them away.

Hogwash. Just like 92% of the pure bunk being pushed by the Republican party today. Get used it being in the minority. I know you guys have shown you don't take it well but as long as you keep up this kind of noise it'll be DECADES before you reign again - if ever.

"....Steele warned that "liberal Democrats could control every lever of every branch of government" if Obama picks a "young, activist, left-wing justice.... whines Mr. Steele ...

Didn't hear much right-wing outrage when the GOP controlled every lever, every branch of government when Bush picked a young, activist, right-wing justice...!!!

Discussion is what a democracy is all about but unfortunately, blind and bitter hypocrisy is what the GOP is all about.

If anyone needs to consult Dr. Phil it is this clown. Remember the "I wear my hat" comments? This guy defines "nerd". There is no substance to his comments. you do not sacrifice "wisdom and grounding" by having empathy. Your ideas, Mr. Steele, are sterile and lacking in substance.

Mr. Steele, from his comments, obviously has no empathy for Americans' problems....hmmm....I ask you...what is wrong with that picture? I thought all politicans worked for the American people and were suppose to put America and Americans above all other considerations. Stupid me, just thought that was the way it was suppose to work!

So Mr. Steele is this another off the hook shot you made from the hizzy? Enjoy your time in power because the far right Limbaugh loving wing of the GOP is more than likely planning to push you out of power. And after the way you laughed it up with President Obama at that dinner the other night that may have sealed your fate.
