WASHINGTON (CNN) - Picking on President Obama's statement that he's searching for a Supreme Court justice with "empathy" for ordinary Americans' problems. Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele joked Friday that the president is "looking to put Doctor Phil on the Court."
Addressing the National Rifle Association, Steele warned that "liberal Democrats could control every lever of every branch of government" if Obama picks a "young, activist, left-wing justice."
"Supreme Court justices hold lifetime appointments," Steele said according to his prepared remarks. "That is why it is imperative that President Obama take his time and search for a nominee with the wisdom and grounding to interpret the laws of our great nation – not one who will have a knee jerk desire to 'empathize' with the concerns of Americans. Sounds like instead of another Judge Roberts, the President is looking to put Doctor Phil on the Court."
Steele also criticized Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for a recent report warning of "right-wing extremism," calling it "silly" and "sad." He said it is "ironic" that some Democrats are trying to restrict gun ownership while considering bringing detainees from Guantanamo Bay to prisons in the United States.
"It is ironic, to say the least, that at the same time Democrats in Congress are threatening to deny Americans their second amendment right to own a firearm and defend their families and homes, they are considering bringing terrorists like 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and other Al Qaeda detainees to our communities once the President follows through on his campaign promise to close Guantanamo Bay," Steele said.

Who is this guy and why are we paying attention. He should just shut and dance like the little puppet on the string he is. Everyone knows Limbaugh and Gingrich runs the GOP. He is a poster boy and he needs to act like it
The GOP spokesperson of the moment is using language that is used to create fear and terror in people....hence terrorist. Geeze... the GOP really needs to get it together. They look like they are totally nuts!

No Incumbents 2010:
Please let the grown-ups talk.
I'm sorry still reflecting on Obama's campaign. You're right. To say someone is redneck or racist, simply because they do not agree with someone is childish and unwarranted.
Back when Bush was nominating Roberts and Alito, Limbaugh railed at the left for objecting to the choices. He said that until the Democrats won election and could select their own candidates they should shut the h*ll up. Well guess what – the shoe is on the other foot now. We won the election, we were given a mandate, and we will see that mandate through. Until you Republicans win another national election, shut the h*ll up! And thank you Steele for continuing to push the right into the political wilderness.
IS this man, Steele, the axes of evil or something? I've never heard an official constantly talk like a thug as he does.
I guess the GOP needed an idiot to make black people look dumb to offset the positive impression the Obama's are showing to the world. Please shut up Mr Steele. I'm embarrassed every time you open your mouth.
Maybe his toes taste like strawberries in his opinion. Steele can't keep his foot out of his mouth. Yum, yum???
I'm surprised that Mr.Steele even knows who Dr. Phil is! He and his Republican buddies seem to be so confused as to why the president would want someone who can understand the common persons feelings on the Supreme court. Republicans really need to crawl out of the protective shell they've been living in and join the real world! I'm sure that if they were to look up the meaning of the word "empathy" in the dictionary, they might get a clue! Why are they so afraid of showing any kind of humanity to people? No wonder the country voted them out of office!
As long as the President doesn't pick "Uncle Michael Steel", I'm sure his pick will be very appropriate.
As for the aforementioned "Uncle Michael", this guy is a joke and a pretty sad joke at that!
Speaking of jokes, that cross eyed fool on TV news is the biggest lair in the republican party.
a bomb by a right-wing wingnut killsyou just as dead as a bomb delivered by a jihadist, and they DO have priors.
We should be thankful for the fact that the Republicans keep us laughing uncontrollably.....
I mean think of the material for Comedians in Hollywood, they must have a back log of material supplied by the Republicans.....
I don't know about you guys, but I love the laughter I endure from listening to the likes of;
Joe the Plumber
Sarah Palin
Rush Limbaugh
Sean Hannity
Bill O' the Clown
Ann Coulter
Dick Cheney
Micheal Steele
Hey guys, keep this quiet, but I don't know if they know that we're laughing at them and not with them.....
They gave uncle Mike a short term job.I know they have no plan of keeping this moron in this spot.He gets to do the dirty work like clean the GOP latrine. The funniest thing is he thinks hes for real. hes just pickin the Massas cotton.
Could Steele possibly sound any dumber??
I think this man should shut the hell up and go away..
well steele or as I like to refer to him, bobo the clown is at it again. he's dumb as a stump. why do they keep letting this jerk out. the gop is in sad shape and he only makes them look worse. In their eyes (can't say mind because they have lost theirs) President Obama can't do anything right. Which must mean he is doing what he should be.
The RNC is only happy if the RNC controls everything–the act like a bunch of GOOSE STEPPING GOONS - WAKE UP OBAMA WON BY A LANDSLIDE -
Sorry Mr. Steele but you are not the leader we need to get the GOP back on track Try offering meaningful solutions. Stop attack, attack, attack, no, no, no and rhetoric, rhetoric, rhetoric. I'm sorry but your days as leader of the party are numbered. Best wishes and good riddance Mr. Steele.
It is Steele who needs to be examined by Dr. Phil. He needs to get him a speech writer and stick to the script. Otherwise, he is going to be side lined like Sarah Palin.
By calling out HHS Napolitano, Mr. Steele forgets that had Bush officials taken seriously the "chatter" being broadcast before 9/11 many things might now be different in America. How sad that rather than working together to improve our country, the right seems only to be able to criticize all who are actually mucking up the pile of dung left by the Bush Administration.
Is it just me? Does Steele seem to speak gibberish to you as well?
We love Mr.Steele.Well hells bells.I think lindylou and I will have muskrat fer diner tonight and watch a scary show, like Faux News.
"Addressing the National Rifle Association, Steele warned that 'liberal Democrats could control every lever of every branch of government' if Obama picks a 'young, activist, left-wing justice.'"
Such a justice would balance out either of the young, activist, right-wing judges - Roberts or Alitto. And remember that Bush picked the latter two with little opposition after winning office based on two single states - FL in 2000 and OH in 2004. Obama won over 300 Electoral College votes and is a Constituitional scholar who is entitled to pick a justice that he agrees with on Constitutional issues. Needless to say, Bush was far from a scholar of any kind - except maybe a scholar of the campaign dollar.
I'm afraid that the Republicans thought Steele would be to them like Obama was to the Democrats, but they are WRONG!!! I almost feel sorry for them to have this imposter representing them.
...and he's not looking for an a..h..e like you!
Michael Steele's time as RNC chairman is on a countdown. I will say Limbaugh and Cheney, his two bosses will give him the boot very soon.
