Obama: Energy, health care reform to lay new foundation

WASHINGTON (CNN) – In his weekly address, President Obama addressed the challenges of growing a "clean energy economy, reforming the healthcare system and laying a new foundation for the long-term strength of our economy."

"For the first time, utility companies and corporate leaders are joining, not opposing, environmental advocates and labor leaders to create a new system of clean energy initiatives that will help unleash a new era of growth and prosperity," Obama said.

Obama added: "But we know that our families, our economy, and our nation itself will not succeed in the 21st century if we continue to be held down by the weight of rapidly rising health care costs and a broken health care system. That’s why I met with representatives of insurance and drug companies, doctors and hospitals, and labor unions who are pledging to do their part to reduce health care costs."

A plan to spend a trillion dollars and raise taxes on every individual thorugh cap-and-trade to fund a technolgy which will increase energy prices without any visable environmental benefit.

A plan to nationalize health care and bring the quality of care to the lower common denominator. Thereby introducing health-care rationing.

Companies are "on board" because they have seen that Obama is willing to throw out the law to force his agenda (see the auto "restructuings" for proof).

Everyday that goes by, Obama proves how unfit he is for this office.

Thank you Mr. President – It is an exciting time to be alive. America deserves real change after suffering through the last 8 years of Republican leadership!

I question the direction the government is taking us. Obama is only supporting industries who supported him. Hydrogen has the potential to be the cleanest energy option for cars yet this administration cut the funding. GM has a hydrogen car. Honda has a hydrogen car. It is a technology that would eliminate all carbon emission from cars. I wonder if the relationship between GE and this administration has anything to do with this. GE is banking on obtaining the billions of dollars in contracts for health care and green technology. If the administration goes a route that does not favor GE, they stand to lose out big time. People need to wake up and realize that a single private corporation is dictating our government policies for their own benefit.

"Journalism" today finds itself in a unique role. It loves the President's beautiful words and speeches to the extent that it blindly accepts every word as the truth.

The result is Obama is leading this country to hell but he, with the help of the press, will make sure we thoroughly enjoy the trip.

Obama is paying lawyers to hide his birth certificate. We know that fact because his lawyers answers to suits all over the country are public record. There’s nothing crazier than a President hiding his birth certificate. People need to know that fact.".

Interesting to see the many thoughtless postings here! Thoughtless hate is meaningless. Paula,Gordon Shumway and phoenix86 need to look at facts and not spread rumors of birth certificate and socialism. Our country was driven into this situation by the past regime of lies, torture and cover-up.We can't continue the lot and thanks God we voted change. So far Obama is on the right track. Let us be honest: If the former ideology was right. Then why and how did we end up into such a mess?
Republicans want Obama to look like he was the president in the past 8yrs! NO WAY.

I swear some of you haters on here I have no idea where you get these ideas from but they are funny to read.

First off, 40-50 million Americans are without health insurance in our country. Those of you who still have your jobs may not understand this but those of you who are unemployed right now dread the day they or a family member gets sick without any health insurance. It is very easy to rally against providing affordable health care for all Americans until you are the one without health insurance.

As for energy, when this economy begins to pick up, so will gas prices. By that time, all of you who are complaining about cap and trade now will be complaining about the gas prices being too high.

Dr. Chu recently killed the funding to jump-start the hydrogen economy greatly dissappointing the industry since itis the ONLY viable long-term renewable energy source and is currently in use!!! I smell a big money rat probably the oil lobby yet again!!!

It is a shame that the involvement of GE in both clean energy and Healthcare will create doubt on all of these plans.
GE parent company ownes MSMBC that is in the tank for Obama. And they are pushing the Healthcare agenda. It is a conflict of interests GE should have to seperate themselves from MSNBC/NBC in order to recieve tax payer money.

    This is a crime!

I'm for everyone having the ability to have some form of health care. Obama cannot keep spending money. Attn: Liberals and sheep.....Cap and Trade will cost everyone in the US $1,000 to $3,000 a year. Is that raising your taxes??? Yes Obama's ties to green energy is just paying back his supporters. Many sources have said that for each green job created it will cost two other jobs. Your taxes are going to go thru the roof.

Put Politicians on Medicare instead of the healthcare we provide them, and put Politicians on Social Security instead of their very lucrative retirement we provide them.

We'll see VAST Improvements in BOTH Immediately.

Goodbye good health care hello gov. controlled health care. Obama wants the gov. to controll our life totally and a lot of people are stupid enough to go along with it. Remember the old saying people– nothing is free in this life. You will regret electing this person; time will show you how wrong you were to vote for him.

Thanks Mr. President for doing all you can in the interest of healthcare for the needed in Americca, and I am so glad that some Republicans had come to their senses to understand what the American people deserve. Hoping we all can work with the president in solving multiple problems that should have been done 100 years ago. Republicans, be careful and remember to work on common ground for the well being of the people. 2010 is on the way for Dem. to increase its power on the hill again. Do you forget 2006 and 2008? Okay, 2010 is coming to show the power of the American people.

Remember Cheny and Haliburton and now its Obama and General Electric. CEO Jeffery Immeul runs MSnbc and backed Obama all the way and even had the nerve to tell CSMBC not to say anything critical about Obama. People better start waking up Obama is running the country right into bankruptsy. Now Obama is saying the debt we have is not sustainable. Thats what half of America and the analyst have been saying since he spent more in 3 months than Bush did in 7 years and still spending.

Obama spent our tax dollars to save GM and Chrysler and now both end up in bankruptsy court anyway. Money thrown out the window. What an idiot.

    Paula,
To verify ones birth certificate or to verify that one is a Natural born citizen does not mean that you and all doubters have to personally see the proof. It means that proof has been given to qualified persons to the extent that they are reasonably satisfied. Your job is to live with their findings even if you do not agree with them.

It is much like an interview board accepting the qualifications of the person they consider to be the most qualified person for a job. You may not agree with their findings but it was the job of the interview board to make the decision to hire the person and not of others that were not members of the board. Get over it and live with it. If you cannot accept that he is the President of the United States then you should consider relocating to your own country where all final decisions will rest with you alone but remember that you may be a country of "ONE" because if there are two or more of you there will be a possibility of someone in your country not in total agreement with one of your decisions.

    @ Super MOD ...

You are absolutely correct, and more people should be aware of this. GE, who also owns Obama's propaganda machine, NBC news. has a very vested stake in these 2 proposals. They will potentially make billions, or lose billions. Thats why they have given direction to NBC to push for this agenda. NBC news should be shut down.

These 2 proposals, if passed, will completely bankrupt this country and it's taxpayers, but make GE very, VERY wealthy.

Any of you who think you are not paying for the people who do not have health care are not thinking straight. Your premiums are paying for all of those emergency rooms and surgeries. Our health care system is in a mess and the insurance companies are telling you what medication they will cover, what surgery or medical treatment they will approve.

Wait until some of you have been defined "uninsurable" by the insurance companies and then who are you going to be crying to.

And Paula – Please get a grip about the birth certificate thing.

Phoenix86 – I can't say about the other two, but as for the health care issue let's face it, by the present way of doing it, there's 43 million AMERICANS that have NO health care cover whatsoever. You claim (beforehand) that, by bringing those 43 million on board the 'lower common denominator' will be the usual at the health care.
If it happens, then the fight will be for the better services that all AMERICANS deserve to receive from the money they pay as taxes.
    If it happens.
