Obama: Energy, health care reform to lay new foundation

WASHINGTON (CNN) – In his weekly address, President Obama addressed the challenges of growing a "clean energy economy, reforming the healthcare system and laying a new foundation for the long-term strength of our economy."

"For the first time, utility companies and corporate leaders are joining, not opposing, environmental advocates and labor leaders to create a new system of clean energy initiatives that will help unleash a new era of growth and prosperity," Obama said.

Obama added: "But we know that our families, our economy, and our nation itself will not succeed in the 21st century if we continue to be held down by the weight of rapidly rising health care costs and a broken health care system. That’s why I met with representatives of insurance and drug companies, doctors and hospitals, and labor unions who are pledging to do their part to reduce health care costs."

Super MOD – I was once a Hydrogen supporter but am no longer. If we are going to change our energy dependence, we should choose the best one now so we don't run into the same problems again. Hydrogen is nice, but it's a "middleman" between what is creating the electricity (say a nuclear power plant) and who is using the electricity (a car). You would once again have to go to another "middleman" (the gas station) to fill up. The absolute best way to go forward is to get rid of the middleman, who in himself is expensive to maintain (stations, supply, infrastructure, etc.). To that end, a car that runs on electricity is best because the electricity is the product of the power plant and you can use it directly at home without having to go somewhere else to charge up (no middleman). To that end, Hydrogen is flawed in concept, not application. If we make our power plants green (sun, wind, etc.) then the solution trickles down directly to the car!

Not trying to be offensive here, just want to bring light on a different way of thinking....

Paula - why anyone lets you run around without someone to control your lack of brains is beside me. You have no facts. Obama's proven his U.S. citizenship multiple times long ago. Not only is your "info" completely false - it's grossly outdated and worn thin.

HINT: Nobody's listening to this BS so stop wasting your time.

Your Messiah is also hiding his college records which MUST show he entered school as a foreign student. Why else would he be paying his lawyers to fight their release.
Wake up people – get off the hope dope and do some research. No, I am not an idiot as many below are saying. I am not a sheeple…

I'm not sure that President Obama will be able to push his entire agenda forward, and I wish he didn't have to compromise with ANY industry in setting forth that agenda. But I'm grateful I have a President who understands the true challenges Americans face on a daily basis, and I'm proud that he's willing to fight for change. Every day, whether I agree or disagree with his actions and policies, I know I cast my vote for the very best this country had to offer.

Where on earth do you get your material? Health-care rationing is so 1990's. Don't listen to the swift boaters, they are not completely truthful.

Each day that goes by makes me proud that we elected Obama and not the GOP alternative.

    Paula-

The right wing nuts have been lying about this since Obama won the nomination for president. What you are saying is simply not true, but is giving Alan Keyes some tv air time. By the way, Obama beat Keyes like a rented mule in the Illinois Senate race (75%-25%), even though Keyes called him a baby killer and the anti-Christ.

It is funny how all these industries are willing to work with Obama. Either he is just an amazing leader (possible), they realize the jig is up (America is bankrupt and climate change is out of control), or maybe he is watering down his originally excellent policies, being the pragmatic guy that he is.

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, but so far failing to prosecute torture and now re-instituting military tribunals is not a good start. If Lindy England could go to jail then so should Rumsfeld and Cheney who encouraged and permitted her to do what she did. If Pelosi was complicit prosecute her too! Torture should not be a partisan issue. Other than Madoff, which was a no brainer, we also haven't seen ANY prosecutions or even firings of the thieves on Wall Street. Obama may not want to get mired in this, but if he fails to uphold the law there will be many more Cheneys, Madoffs and Rumsfelds in the future.

Paula, get a life. Stop getting your information from the right wing lunatic fringe media who are only interested in making money and will tell you whatever you want to hear, regardless of whether it's true at all. According to Palin and Fox "News" America should have been a Communist, Islamist dictatorship by now, so what happened?

It shows that finally America has a President that works incredibly hard. He always has in mind the average and hard working American people and is fighting tooth and nail for them. I can't believe that some people are still questioning his birth certificate. They must be from the illiterate army of limbaugh.

Paula, you are a moron, plain an simple. phoenix86, where were you for the past 8 years? Now all of sudden are you concerned about how this president is running the country. You sound like a republican who just hates that we have a black president who is smart and is trying to look out for us working class folks. President Obama is just has fit for office his President Bush was. I am sorry your hero is out of office, but his 8 years are up. We have a new leader and I for one want to him to get the same amount of time to fix our economy has the last administration had to flush it down the toliet.

Super MOD said "Hydrogen has the potential to be the cleanest energy option for cars yet this administration cut the funding." On the contrary, Hydrogen is NOT the answer... look at the facts: producing Hydrogen is very costly, using electricity in its production. Also, turning this electricity into Hydrogen isn't very efficient, losing about 70% of the energy in the process... what we need are other technologies like 100% electric vehicles, more public transportation, etc. And Paula, stop posting your inane and delusional statements about Obama's birth certificate. Your assertions were disproven ages ago, so get over it already!

This new foundation, however, will be built on the rubble of the constitution. Research CIFTA and see how obama views the document he swore, well sort of, to defend against all enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC. He wants an international registry of gun owners accessible by all of the governments who ratify this treaty, and it also extends extradition rights of americans by foreign governments, in addition to classifying reloading ammunition as explosives manufacturing. In short he and his henchman holder want to erase the borders of all the north american countries, and eviscerate US sovereignty, all while trampling personal privacy and any hint of freedom we have left after bush. Thanks for the change we can't live with. The only hope we have for avoiding this unconstitutional and treasonous action is that the senate actually knows their place unlike this political-activist-in-chief. The oath doesn't say that if he doesn't like the constitution he can change it, it says he will protect it in it's entirety as is without question. Leave legislation to the legislators, and try to focus on fulfilling your obligation to your employers, even the sixty six percent who didn't vote for you. Traitors are not treated kindly by history, no matter what their intentions were.

My only question is: How much more debt is this going to cost America? Previously Middle Class, now living pay check to pay check!
Inflation has begun. Notice that the price of cereal has not changed much (just a slight increase), but the boxes are now smaller? Love feta cheese on my salads. I used to buy it by the block. Now block feta is off the shelf, and only crumbled at the same price, but only enough in the container for one salad. My family makes less than $250,000 a year, but the taxes are effecting us badly!

To D. Tree, you are an idiot and all the other bots out there will be rudely awakened to that fact, along with you, when the crap hits the fan. I hope you are proud of being in the statistical and numerical minority who are obama supporters. He has even started to loose support among the most liberal morons among you, and he's just getting started. He is a lying politician and a lawyer so I don't see why we should beleive him anymore than we did bush. Actually since bush wasn't a lawyer he has more credibility. So go stick you head up each others asses and leave politics to the grownups.
