Reliable Sources: Pelosi's presser performance

A trio of journalists weighed in Sunday about Speaker Pelosi's recent press conference on CNN's Reliable Sources.

A trio of journalists weighed in Sunday about Speaker Pelosi's recent press conference on CNN's Reliable Sources.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) performance at Thursday's press conference received a harsh evaluation from Reliable Sources’ political panel Sunday morning.

Pelosi said Thursday that the CIA "was misleading the Congress."

Roger Simon, chief political columnist for The Politco, told CNN's Howard Kurtz that Pelosi may have dug herself in an even deeper hole.

"If she had hung a sign around her neck saying 'I am lying,' she could not have done worse...She was terrible."

Pelosi has been under fire this week for conflicting statements she made on whether or not she was briefed by the CIA about so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques," such as waterboarding, being used on terror suspects.

Simon said the media's performance wasn't any better than Pelosi's.

"She didn't know what she said. She couldn't decide on what she didn't know what she said. And I think the media this time was just neutral filters for what she was saying."

Michael Medved, a conservative radio talk show host, said the media has done a good job of pressing Pelosi on what she knew and when she knew it. He added, however, that the press is ignoring the trouble this could cause the Obama administration.

"I think they're being pretty tough. And I think it's appropriate. The big story here that I don't think people are picking up is the splintering of this unified Democratic party... President Obama does not want Congress or the nation obsessed with the interrogation issue," Medved said.

Liberal radio talk show host Stephanie Miller said the chronology of Pelosi's briefings should not be a central issue.

"The issue is not what Nancy Pelosi knew or when she knew it. It's who ordered the torture and torture is illegal."

Enhanced interrogation is to torture as corporal punishment is to child abuse.

Liar, if she would have just said she didn't recall, she probably could have gotten away with it. She continues to lie and try to place blame elsewhere. The hole she dug is pretty deep. Dems don't twist this around and make excuses for her. The fact that she lies and continues to lies is what this is all about......lack of integrity. This woman needs to resign, but we all know that will never happen, just more lies.

  4. Pelosi is "typical"

Ms. Miller as usual is nothing but a uber-left wing hack shrill who is missing the whole point here, MANY Democrats knew what was going on and AGREED with it because at the time it was the right thing to do, now that it is SUPPOSEDLY not as popular of a move, they are trying to reinvent history.

They are being exposed for the frauds that they are, simply playing politics with American lives and nothing else.

If somone explains in detail how they are going to commit a crime and you say or do nothing to stop it, YOU ARE COMPLICIT in that crime, real simple even for you SHEEP.

Instead of prosecuting the people that made this TOUGH decision, we should ALL applaud them as their steps SAVED lives, even uber-liberal "I hate America lives".

Of course it matters who knew what and when. The Dems now can't throw it all off on the Bush administration. Pelosi can't have it both ways.

If the issue isn't what Pelosi knew or didn't know, when why is Congress receiving briefings from the CIA in the first place. Liberals, you can't have it both ways!

Wasn't the word "TRANSPARENCY" used as part of the ethos of the Democratic Party? I agree that all aspects of government should be held accountable by all of us citizens, so why can't transparency be applied to Pelosi?

Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Rove, and the CIA are the liars.... Who's going after them?

Who cares what Pelosi knew? She didn't initiate and then lie about the torture program and she couldn't have stopped it in any case.

Why aren't Bush and his rotten administration accountable for anything?

we don't really care if she lied or not its all about the GOP making noise to keep the heat off of Bush Cheney

our country is in the middle of a finacial mess .and two wars the republicans couldn't manage and now the new president has to clean up after them .. so media needs to pick the important issues and not the day to day crap .. this next election cycle might find many republicans voted out of office and replaced with independents and or democrates..

GOP has totlally shot their foot completelly off

Pelosi is a perfect example of a politician – thinks everyone is out to get her, lies and deceives – anything to make her look better than everyone else.

Not only does she need to go, but the entire corupt congress. Looks like we are going to have to throw this new administration in the 'corupt' category also – already!

If Pelosi does not resign, she will wind up hurting the dim party. Look for the puppet masters of the dim party to start applying presuure for her removal.

Isn't it more than amusing that the dims wanted to start this fight and are going to pay the greater price.

    Dimocrat leadership is clueless.

As a Vietnam Vet who worked as an advisor for MACV I can tell you this, MACV ran the war and the CIA ran MACV. The CIA is composed of men who are professional liars, that's their job, to lie with a straight face. Have you ever heard of a spy who told the truth? Of course not, if you were foolish enough to listen to the CIA in "Nam" they would have you walking across a mine field on their assurances that it was safe. I believe that Ms Pelosi was lied to along with the American people by the last administration's puppets. They lied about the WMD, they lied about it being a "Slam Dunk", they lied about outing Valerie Plame they lied about everything. Why would they suddenly start telling the truth. Boehner needs to shut his mouth before congress institutes "Truth Hearings" ala South Africa.

Here we go again..Watergate..Clintongate..Bushgate..Pelosigate..I am beginning to believe that no one in Washington is listening to the American people. The he said..she said in Congress is destroying all that is good and decent in our country. We have so many problems to deal with, unemployment, the budget, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and on and on. We as average Americans do not have the voice thru Media as do our "so called elected officials" who choose to bicker and try to" One Up each other." They are lost in their own egoic minds. Between Limbough,Gingrich,Boehner, Cheney and yes, Pelosi and many others, I have come to realize that most of what we as Americans have to say will make no difference. Yes, President Obama was elected by the voice of America but many in Congress are doing their best (worst) to destroy any ideas he may have to rebuild our country. I just feel lost and hopeless for America!
I guess I will just pray that somehow they will WAKE-UP and treat we Americans and our country with the respect and honor we all deserve.

How simple it is for some to divert attention from ones self to another. I wonder which was more involved in creating policy and implementation of questionable methods. Who is it we should really be concerned with, those creating policy, those advocating policy or those briefed on policy.

Simple questions for simple folks, who deserves the attention and needs to be held to account for their actions. Or shall we just divert attention to someone that is easy to dislike.

How long will it be before the libs very attractive and highly intelligent (roll eyes) head spokeswoman, Janeane Garofalo , label all the Notre Dame protesters as racists?

This is like secretly placing a hidden camera in the cheerleaders changing room, finding out that one of them is really a man then blabbing about it!
How can you talk about something you cant legitimately prove??
Can she prove she is correct without releasing scads of classified documents and briefings??
Who has time to get into "He said/she said" with the CIA?

(sounds like a "Slam Dunk" to me!)

Boehner said he has received intelligence briefings from the CIA for three and a half years and has "never felt" misled. So what is he saying? That he knew of the waterboarding and stood by silent while the Bush administration declared to the world "we do not torture?" We had a republican president, and for 6 years republican led senate and congress and no one stepped up and questioned anything? And now, we turn to Nancy Pelosi for all the answers and accountability? Where is the sense and logic in all of this!

I had hoped we could have put this behind us, but Cheny, and now Pelosi, have not allowed this to go away. The Bush white house is even going to look worse when the truth is found out.

The issue should be if we terror suspect should be killed or waterboarded. Not if it is legal to turture mass-muderers who are not Americans

Pelosi should hide in the place they prepared for the vice president for a few months, but hey, we now know where it is as Joe Biden revealed it (and CNN does not report on it!!!!).
So they will not allow this comment either!

It *is* about who knew, and when they knew it. We need to know who was complicit in the torture of prisoners – whether they were Republicans or Democrats. If we want a bi-partisan government, then we have to be a bi-partisan populace. Root them all out, and then let the trials begin. If we are afraid of looking into our own government, we have no chance – the fascists/communists/Marxists/neo-Nazis/etc. have won. American government is supposed to be all about checks and balances – between the branches, between government and the media, and between the government and the voters. Let's have transparency!

Now, let's get this straight: George Bush lied to get us into a discretionary war in Iraq that had no links to either WMD, the Taliban, Al Queda or 9/11, with thousands of U.S. casualties and billions in expense; he and Cheney and Rumsfeld authorized torture and wiretapping of U.S. citizens despite the Constitution, U.S. law, international law and the Geneva Convention; and McConnell and Gingrich say PELOSI should resign because she says she was misled and they think she's lying??? Awesome ... this sudden discovery by Republicans that the truth is sovereign, and that lies should lead to resignation.
Too bad they didn't discover that about 5,000 U.S. deaths, 100,000 Iraqi deaths and three-quarters of a trillion dollars ago. Oh, and after the obfuscation of who did what to whom coming out of the previous administration, is anybody seriously persuaded that the Democrats in Congress were provided with timely, complete and truthful information? Not me!
