WASHINGTON (CNN) - West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd was hospitalized late last week for a temperature spike caused by an infection, according to a statement released by Byrd's office Monday.
Byrd, a 91-year-old Democrat, entered the hospital last Friday afternoon as precautionary measure. He is "being treated with antibiotics, responding well, and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days," according to the statement.
Byrd was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1958.

I sincerly hope Senator Robert Byrd is ok, he is such a wonderful person and we salute and honor him for his service to the Senate and everything he has done. I hope he gets better and gets back to the Senate in his own time, Senator Byrd you a true hero to American politics.
A reason we need term limits. But too many people will not get off of their ideological views to vote representatives like this out. Too many people think the political party they belong to does not wrong and the opposing party does no right.
This country needs a third party movement and people need to demand term limits for congress. We are losing our constituional rights more and more. Wake up people.

i echo everyone else calling for term limits. While i hope the best for Senator Byrd and congratulate him on living to age 91 and counting does he really serve his constituency well at that age? Will it take the first 100+ year old in congress before they take that seriously? Congress is so great at deciding all of our livlihoods by destroying several industries (healthcare, auto industry, banking (by virtue of deregulation) but yet they keep their own thin skins long after the time they are viable.
My only hope is that he steps down and a Republican takes his place so the socialist agenda of the democrats is stopped sooner rather than later.

Well gee, term limits do exist – in the voting booth. If you don't want someone – vote 'em out. However, if you do not live in the state of West Virginia – butt out. Obviously people are happy with Senator Byrd's service so they kept voting him back in!
