(CNN) – As the GOP struggles to find a candidate to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a new poll out Tuesday suggests the Nevada Democrat is extremely vulnerable 18 months before Election Day.
According to the new survey conducted by Mason-Dixon for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, only about a third of the state's voters said they would vote to re-elect Reid to a fifth Senate term, while 45 percent said they would definitely vote for another candidate. An additional 17 percent of voters say they would consider voting to oust Reid.
The poll also suggested Reid's approval rating back home stands at a meager 38 percent, while about half of Nevada voters hold a negative view toward the Senate Majority leader.
Reid has long been a divisive figure in his home state, especially since ascending to the position of majority leader in 2006.
But even though there are few more valuable Democratic targets in the Senate, the GOP has yet to find a credible candidate willing to challenge Reid, known for his take-no-prisoners style back at home.
Meanwhile Reid is raising campaign cash at an impressive clip, amassing more than $2 million in his war chest during the first quarter of the year.
Jim Manley, a spokesman for Reid, brushed aside the poll results, saying, "Sen. Reid has never put a lot of weight in polls.
"Polls by the Review-Journal are consistently out of line with other polls," Manley also said. "The primary number he's worried about is Nevada's 10.4% unemployment rate and that's why he's focused on fixing the economy and creating jobs in Nevada."
The survey interviewed 625 Nevada voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

if CNN won't ….someone else will….
GOP Losses Span Nearly All Demographic Groups .www.gallup.com
much more important than Harry Reid 18 months from re-election
Him and pelosi out.
I don't know what's scarier....Harry "We lost the War" Reid...or the liberals on this blog who think CNN is pandering to the Republicans. That's just scary in itself.
This guy along with John Murtha and Pelosi need to go crawl back into their caves and be done with it. They succeeded in dividing the country. Their job was well done. To hell with what's good for the country. That doesn't matter. It's the DNC that only matters. Money...power...party. They would only agree with a Republican if it was politically advantagous to do so. Eventually, karma calls home and this guy is in big trouble.
Does it seem to you republicans control the media?
We need new blood all the way round.
How come the media doesn't turn the heat on republicans?
Reid is in trouble because he does not represent the interest of a majority of people in his state. Obama and liberal democrats do not represent the interest of a majority of people in Nevada.
Mr. Reid is doing fine, its just Pelosi makes all Dems look bad.
Harry Reid is in bad trouble. I can't bail him out like I bail the President out, you know.
It is time for Reid and Pelosi to step down. The Democrats need better leadership than these two hacks.
Joe
If you live in Las Vegas you would know that the Review Journal is a highly pro Republican newspaper. As a Democrat I would ignore anything they say about politics. As a matter of fact I stopped reading the paper years ago. Their political views are in line with Fox news.
I'm a strong Democratic supporter, and I believe that Sen. Reid is a strong-minded, capable and important Democratic leader. However, I have to agree with one of the recent comments that it is time for many incumbents, especially those that have been in Washington for over a quarter century... like Reid, to step back and allow the next generation of Americans to ascend to the high offices.
It is clear that the World is changing faster than the old ones can process... The first Congressman born in the 1980's is a Republican... the second will be a Democrat.
We're on our way up tweens.
Get rid of Reid. I don't care if it is a Republican or Democrat who replaces him, I just think Reid supported a so-called stimulus bill that will borrow more money then ever in history against our children's future. He needs to go and we need fresh young people with less "baggage" and less partisanship and more ideas.
They should set a term limit like the President has.
Pelosi, should be ousted as well!
Reid, Pelosi, Dodds, Franks and list will keep growing of losers to be defeated in 2010 & 2012.

In 18 months, Obama's socialistic agenda will put Nevada's 10.4% unemployment rate at 20%. Not to mention the rest of America..
++++++++++++++++++
I suppose you have some data to back that up, right?
Oh, didn't think so. Just pulling numbers out of thin air, or somewhere else less fresh I see.
Dummy.
Harry Reid should be in a cage. He's pretty much a traitor to the U.S. just like Pelosi and all the other thug Democrats.
Um, it's 18 MONTHS before the election. Show me a poll taken 18 days before the election and I will be inclined to consider it.
For a guy who doesn't pay much attention to polls, Mr. Manley seems to know a lot about their comparative accuracy.
Reid and Pelosi need to resign. They both are incompetent old fools.
They make me sick
What?? I thought the dems were going to sweep elections for the next 20 years?? Oh yeah, that was before people realized how bad Barry H. Obama and his minions are.
I'm happy with Reid leaving. I'm sure this news is sending a shiver down where his spine used to be.

The second Democrat Senate Leader voted out of office in a row. Another historical first for the Obama team…

LOL... since there's 18 months to go before any election happens, you may be just alittle bit dissappointed that they are STILL there tomorrow!
Comment to Emma:
Your comment was just about the dumbest I have ever heard. Turn the heat up on Republicans????????? You are an idiot.
Reid is in trouble because he does not represent the interest of a majority of people in his state. Obama and liberal democrats do not represent the interest of a majority of people in Nevada
