Poll shows trouble for Reid

Thirty-eight percent of respondents in a new poll said that they approve of the job Harry Reid is doing in Congress.
Thirty-eight percent of respondents in a new poll said that they approve of the job Harry Reid is doing in Congress.

(CNN) – As the GOP struggles to find a candidate to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a new poll out Tuesday suggests the Nevada Democrat is extremely vulnerable 18 months before Election Day.

According to the new survey conducted by Mason-Dixon for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, only about a third of the state's voters said they would vote to re-elect Reid to a fifth Senate term, while 45 percent said they would definitely vote for another candidate. An additional 17 percent of voters say they would consider voting to oust Reid.

The poll also suggested Reid's approval rating back home stands at a meager 38 percent, while about half of Nevada voters hold a negative view toward the Senate Majority leader.

Reid has long been a divisive figure in his home state, especially since ascending to the position of majority leader in 2006.

But even though there are few more valuable Democratic targets in the Senate, the GOP has yet to find a credible candidate willing to challenge Reid, known for his take-no-prisoners style back at home.

Meanwhile Reid is raising campaign cash at an impressive clip, amassing more than $2 million in his war chest during the first quarter of the year.

Jim Manley, a spokesman for Reid, brushed aside the poll results, saying, "Sen. Reid has never put a lot of weight in polls.

"Polls by the Review-Journal are consistently out of line with other polls," Manley also said. "The primary number he's worried about is Nevada's 10.4% unemployment rate and that's why he's focused on fixing the economy and creating jobs in Nevada."

The survey interviewed 625 Nevada voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

Reid is a bad illusion, sorry some of you libs who somehow blame the Republicans for him (it's hard to believe, but I guess thats what sitting home smokin' dope and watching Oprah do to a mind) have got to get over it. The democrats have got to have someone else to be the face of the congressional majority than the lying Speaker of the House and this crooked jerk.

Reid is a great politician who serves the state of Nevada with dignity. Repubes are scared of him and they have no candidate to go against him. Nevadan's are thankful he is in Washington next to the President. Weep you Repubes and look for an exit right.

Can't say I'm all broken up about this. I don't know who's the worse congressional leader, Pelosi or Reid. We need a leader with some kahona's, and Reid does NOT fit the bill.

    How about Russ Feingold?

Austin in TX are you serious? Wait, if we all don't bow down to your almight Obama we should be stricken from the planet? You'd better watch it, with that mentality some on here would brand you a Republican. Not that it would be right but its nice to know that the rules of fairplay only apply to Republicans.

    Color me not surprised.

And instead of wishing you ill I will wish that you change your ways.

I've lived in Vegas for many years. The Review Journal has a political philosophy just to the right of Hitler. I take everything they say with more than a grain of salt. They have repeatedly been shown to distort news to fit their agenda. So, this story is hardly news at this point.

As a Yellow Dog Democrat of some forty years, I say good riddance.

Old "Weak" Reid couldn't lead his way out of a paper sack if the bottom were on fire and the opening aglow with neon lights.

Dump him in the primary and let a genuine progressive Democrat run in his place!

I, for one, hope Reid goes down in defeat. He's neither a Democrat or a Republican. He's in it for himself with loyalty to no one. He needs to go!

Reid is a long-standing fool – almost more gaffes than Biden, but mean-spirited. And a policy idiot.

Nevada – show that Western spirit. Toss him out on his ear!

Reid and Pelosi have to go. As the two who oversee one of the worst rated congresses ever, they should be shown the door.

Reid is in trouble because of the growing intelligence of the Nevada voter.

Stay Pinky, stay! The people of Nevada need to realize he has been protecting us from having more waste being dumped less than 100 miles from Las Vegas. Guess which direction the wind blows when over ground zero of Yucca Mountain?

If Reid would strap on a set and call the shots, then perhaps he would have some respect.

Here's the guy who said he "hated" John McCain. Not disagreed with him, not has another opinion, not saying his ideas are out of date or anything professional. Hated him. A national war hero and presidential candidate with moderate leanings.

Reed must go. And take Nancy Pelosi with him.

He must go. We need a strong and decisive majority leader. One that can work the senate the way our President works the world.

Yeah...bad news though conservatives. If you had read the article you'd realize that it stated there was nobody credible to run against him. He may be replaced in the primary, but you'd still get a democrat. Plus, calm down folks, this is 18 months from now. Can we please catch our breaths for a second before jumping from election to election?

I guess it's just more empty rhetoric from the Republican "Oh my god the world is changing and I can't handle it!" Party.

Typical CNN... Bowing down to the ever dwindling GOP... This poll means nothing and it's source is more than suspect.

CNN, can you ever put the heat on Republicans or are you just too scared to be called "liberal media"?

That said, I do hope Ried loses the Dem primary so someone with a backbone would take on the GOP hate machine! Pelosi has more nads! He is a wimp!

But no worries, this seat will stay in Dem hands... The voters of Nevada know the GOP means nothing anymore but fear, hate, failure & selling out the American public so the rich get richer!
