FBI not investigating Pelosi's CIA charge

FBI Director Robert Mueller says the FBI is not investigating Nancy Pelosi's charge that she was misled by the CIA.
FBI Director Robert Mueller says the FBI is not investigating Nancy Pelosi's charge that she was misled by the CIA.

(CNN) - FBI Director Robert Mueller told members of the House Wednesday that it is a crime to lie to Congress, but said the bureau is not investigating the charge by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the CIA misled her.

In response to questions from California Rep. Darrell Issa, ranking Republican on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Mueller said procedures require Congress to refer requests for an investigation to the Justice Department. If it is determined by Justice officials that a basis exists for an investigation, the FBI would then be asked to look into the matter. When Issa said he has standing to ask for such an investigation, Mueller said he would pass the request on to the Justice Department.

    Let's get it all out in the open, torture photos and documents. Anyone who lied or approved illegal activity should be put on trial. It they're guilty, throw 'em in jail! That includes Bush, Cheney, Rummy, AND Pelosi.

  3. Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me err...

    An investigation may not be a bad idea. The question is who needs to be investigated? Speaker Pelosi who has good reason to believe the CIA has lied or George-it's-a-slum-dunk-Tenet and Dick-mushroom-cloud-Cheney? Weren't those both big lies that led to loss of American and Iraqi lives?

    Republican hypocrisy is mind boggling!

    This is all the Repubs have to offer- more negative diversions. They offer no positive direction for the country, only criticism, hate and disparagement in the name of patriotism and liberty. What cr*p. We have extraordinary problems in this country, including a failed education system, inadequate and expensive healthcare that is burying us and on and on and all the Repubs and right wingers can do is rant.

    The FBI is the only smart group here! The FBI refused to go along with waterboarding, ostensibly indicating the illegal aspect of the operation at all! But now the FBI doesn't see the need to get involved with investigating Pelosi's statements regarding what she knew about the CIA and what it told her. The CIA cannot maintain proper validating notes on the matter. So, how can the FBI investigate the CIA when the CIA has been proven wrong. This exonerates Pelosi indirectly by the FBI in its not pursuing this adventure!

    I can't believe some of you people are so quick to believe that the CIA couldn't possibly have misled Congress. Remember, this is the same CIA that cooked the books so Bush could make the case for the Iraq War. You really think they are above doing anything shady? That is their JOB, you morons. You freaking people are like lemmings, you'll follow anyone with some inkling of authority over the edge. Well, good riddance.

    @Denise:

    By all means, throw her out.

    In "getting" rid of her, please explain why only Pelosi? Why not Bush&Cheney who used lies and deceit to invade Iraq. Why not the CIA & the FBI, who lied and misled in a effort to substantiate the war? Why not all members of Congress who voted for a war based the lies generated by the Bush Administration?

    A lie is a lie is a lie.

    If the FBI doesn't want to do an investigation, then the Army C.I.D. should conduct one since the crimes(Torture) took place on an Army Base.

    That lying woman wants a truth commission and she cannot tell the truth herself? Set her up with a truth commission and put her on trial first! Lord that woman has cajones!

    The republicans are using their distracting tactics to take the focus off the real issue – and that real issue is that the republican administration condones torture....and now ALL the republicans condone torture.
    Wake up people.....the republicans are evil and are still trying to destroy our country.

    Wasn't Cheney the head of the CIA when all this was happening? What makes anyone think Cheney wouldn't lie?

    Good, because we all are aware that she (Pelosi) was not informed specifically about "tourture". In case no one notice why was Pelosi "briefed" in separate meetings from those held for republican's? I say it's because of Bush/Cheney's double faces, but anyhoooooooo all those republican's making nasty remarks about this need to put the blame right were it belonges in Bush/Cheney decitful faces. Why is that so difficult for the GOP'ers?

    Another Republic politician trying to make an issue out of a non issue.

    The real issue: Republics lied; people died.

    Grow up Republics and participate in resolving the problems we face instead of obstructing.

    @Jimmy the Greek

    Perhaps you haven't been paying attention. Most "Libs" are perfectly fine with going after Pelosi, ONLY if the Bush Administration is held just as culpable. The deflection your team wants is to tackle Pelosi and leave the rest alone . . . national security, personal security, and all that blather comes to mind.

    Wow! What a bad strategy!

    By forcing an investigation of Pelosi, the Republicans are sure to trigger one of their involvement in the ordering and commission of torture. That won't play well for them at all.

    Talk about a lose-lose strategy! What are they thinking?

    Do not waste any time on this GOP nonsense. It's simply a diversion to draw attention away from exposing the abuse of power, torture, and self-serving policies by Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld. They fabricated evidence and tortured detainees to try to justify their War of Obsession. The truth has surfaced. GOP smoke-screens cannot hide the ugly truth.

  23. Proud Member..Party of No

    Is the "torture" all you dumbocrats are constantly chirping about the waterboarding for no more than 40 seconds at a time with a doctor standing nearby or is it the placing of a harmless caterpillar in the jail cell of murderous terrorist? I'm confused because the first one sounds more like a college fraternity initiation and the second one sounds like a pre-school prank.
