Limbaugh blasts Powell attack

Rush Limbaugh criticized Colin Powell as being part of the 'stale, the old, the worn-out GOP.'
Rush Limbaugh criticized Colin Powell as being part of the 'stale, the old, the worn-out GOP.'

(CNN) - Colin Powell and Rush Limbaugh escalated their war of words on Wednesday, with the talk radio host calling the former Secretary of State part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

The comments came hours after Powell fired back at Limbaugh and former Vice President Dick Cheney over recent remarks questioning his GOP credentials.

"Rush Limbaugh says, 'get out of the Republican Party.' Dick Cheney says, 'he's already out,'" Powell said at a Tuesday night event in Boston, according to the Boston Globe. "I may be out of their version of the Republican Party, but there's another version of the Republican Party waiting to emerge once again."

Powell drew ire from many in the GOP for his decision to endorse President Obama's candidacy, and said earlier this month that the party would be better off without Limbaugh.

On his show Wednesday, Limbaugh mocked Powell's comments. "And now there's an agenda, an emerging agenda, that he's waiting for for the Republican Party?" said the radio host. "The only thing emerging here is Colin Powell's ego. Colin Powell represents the stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

Limbaugh, who has been called the de facto leader of the Republican Party by leading Democrats, also said that he is resigning from the position.

"I am resigning as the titular head of the Republican Party," Limbaugh said. "Clearly I am not the titular head of the Republican Party, it's not an office I sought, it was an office position that rather was ladled onto me, and one I was appointed without by acquiescence."

Colin Powell is a traitor to the Republican party by endorsing his "color"! That being said, there was a time that I would eagerly voted for Powell if he had threw in his hat but, no more. He has shown his true "color"!

  4. Shut Up Limbaugh

Why does this crackhead continue to disrespect Republicans like Powell and McCain? Oh yeah, typical fat bully on the playground stuff. Hate the people who have actually accomplished something in their lives. All of that money and Limbaugh is still insecure and hates himself. He won't ever be anything but that fat underachieving kid just like his fans.

    sojourn,
You are a complete moron and in need of getting a little more info before spewing.
How do you Republicans ever hope to be taken seriously when your members spout off like this. "muslim cry baby"? Powell told Bush to go to war? That's just soooo creepy. Wrong and creepy.
Makes me want to find a Republican and wring his neck..... only problem is it's getting hard to find anyone who calls himself a Republican these days!

Wow, talk about a bunch of losers. Limbaugh and Cheney. What a pair. The GOP is already mortally wounded and these two just keep on shooting it in the head.

Words cannot express the thanks that the working class owe them for helping to marginalize and now destroy the GOP.

  9. Powell is a back stabber....

he can't be trusted and ipso facto he should join the Democratic Socialist party and then he can stab them in the back at his next opportunity.

While Powell was wearing a uniform and defending his country, Rush was busy popping pills and finding volunteers to procure prescription drugs for him. Yup, the Republicans have a bright future ahead of them.

Mr. Limbaugh is a total embarrassment for Americans. He is a fine example of why other countries think we are a bunch of red necks.

Rush Limbaugh is laughing all the way to the bank. He spreads hate and discontent and makes lots of money with his "EIB" golden microphone. It's sickening.
    And -– I'm a Republican. And--I voted McCain.
And-–I like and admire Colin Powell. It's time for change within the Republican party. Amen Colin Powell.

Powell and Rush as well as the Dick are all working together, same rats, let them sink with their leaky boat, and they should take a good lot of the Democrats with them.

It should be a no brainer for GOPer. A decorated war veteran v/s a 5 differment chicken hawk and a drug addict radio talk show host. But the party is going against the war veteran. That means it is the end for GOP as we know it.

If you are white, did you vote for McCain because he was white? This "color" thing is outrageous and racist. Gen. Powell has the right to vote for whomever he wants, just like the rest of us.

"When republicans run as conservatives, they win every time."

What a great delusion you guys keep throwing up. Let's look for conservative presidents. Last one was Reagan (whose spending sprees does not look all that conservative) and then we have to go back to....hmmm...Hoover. Quite a winning streak.

All the conservatives are doing is infecting the Republican party from the inside. "Unless, you adopt our impossible to follow pledges, you're not one of us". Maybe you guys should focus on the real world instead of the drug-induced one you are in now. Given the posts on this blog, I think that may be difficult.

How can Limbaugh resign from the title "titular head of the Republican Party" ? This was a joke - a title made in jest by Democrats, to make fun of the way Michael Steele and others were cowtowing to him. Rush, you can't "resign" from a joke title, unless you are are, as Al Franken put it, "a big, fat idiot" ! So, if Franken is right, then go ahead and resign, idiot!
