Limbaugh blasts Powell attack

Rush Limbaugh criticized Colin Powell as being part of the 'stale, the old, the worn-out GOP.'
Rush Limbaugh criticized Colin Powell as being part of the 'stale, the old, the worn-out GOP.'

(CNN) - Colin Powell and Rush Limbaugh escalated their war of words on Wednesday, with the talk radio host calling the former Secretary of State part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

The comments came hours after Powell fired back at Limbaugh and former Vice President Dick Cheney over recent remarks questioning his GOP credentials.

"Rush Limbaugh says, 'get out of the Republican Party.' Dick Cheney says, 'he's already out,'" Powell said at a Tuesday night event in Boston, according to the Boston Globe. "I may be out of their version of the Republican Party, but there's another version of the Republican Party waiting to emerge once again."

Powell drew ire from many in the GOP for his decision to endorse President Obama's candidacy, and said earlier this month that the party would be better off without Limbaugh.

On his show Wednesday, Limbaugh mocked Powell's comments. "And now there's an agenda, an emerging agenda, that he's waiting for for the Republican Party?" said the radio host. "The only thing emerging here is Colin Powell's ego. Colin Powell represents the stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

Limbaugh, who has been called the de facto leader of the Republican Party by leading Democrats, also said that he is resigning from the position.

"I am resigning as the titular head of the Republican Party," Limbaugh said. "Clearly I am not the titular head of the Republican Party, it's not an office I sought, it was an office position that rather was ladled onto me, and one I was appointed without by acquiescence."

To Willy Brown: Gen Colin Powell did not vote based on color, he voted based on who was the better candidate.

If all African Americans voted based on color Shirley Chisholm would've garnered more of the Democratic vote in the 70's, Jesse Jacksoon would've won the Democratic nomination in 1988 and Reverend Al Sharpton would've gotten a lot more votes in the 90's.

It's easy to regurgitate what someone else says because you don't have to think. Try something new for a change...use your brain, if you have a functioning one, to form your own opinion based on facts.

Way to go Colin. If the GOP want to go with Cheney and Limbaugh they will lose ever election. Their bigot views are old and stale. You stay above all the mess and like always you will come out on top.

  6. Bitter Republican, party of no I mean one, your table is ready!

Just like with the Pelosi story, us Democrats love this guy and the hate that he spews. It puts him in the spotlight in a negative way and just makes more people want to leave the Republican Party.

As if attacking a four star general is going to shore up support for your base.

The Party of No will soon become the Party of None.

Keep up the good work Repubs!

    @ GOP Disaster quips,

"He can talk junk to Colin Powell but he can't talk trash to Wanda Sykes."

    ------

As I recall Obama was back-pedaling from Wanda Syko's jokes? Just curious... what is it about the Democratic party that attracts bitter angry black comedians like Wanda and Whoopie?

The party won't split. It will "stay the course" and come close to complete destruction, then finally realize that we weren't freekin' kidding on November 4, 2008. Then it'll spend a couple decades making an actually honest effort to remake itself.

Colin Powell, PLEASE leave the Republican party all together. Please. I have always admired and respected you. You do not belong to GOP. You have too much intelligence and integrity for that party. You are a good man and they are the dark lords of evil politics. They don't want centrist, they don't want moderate...BUT WE DO! Heck, you don't even have to agree with the whole Democratic platform! We will welcome your ideas and your input without prejudice. JOIN US!

    Republicans

It amazes me how you guys talk about patriotism but yet you back two guys one who took every deferment he could get his hands on when it came to defending his country and the other one put on a uniform to defend his country if you paid him twice what he makes now.

I used to respect Colin Powell but now I can't help but see him as some coward who did not have the courage to be the first Black President. I'd rather instead of him complaining about what the GOP became actually acted and lead it to become what he thinks it should be.

Talk is cheap but actions speak volumes Colin. You had your chance to run and said no instead you got suckered into being the fool for Bush. Some say you were asking for it. You could have been the man in 2000 and Bush would have been some guy you ran against in a primary. But you said no. You reap what you sow at times.

@ ray ray, who said "what is it about the Democratic party that attracts bitter angry black comedians like Wanda and Whoopie?"

Well, we could make a list, but we're short on space, so let's just point out that it might not be so much what's attracting angry black people ot the Dems, but the fact that the GOP is what's making them angry and repelling them. Go ahead, cite me RNC President Mushmouth McToken as your counterargument....go ahead.

I love this. Colin Powell is not sitting on the sidelines taking these swipes lightly. Fight back Colin Powell. You are exactly the leader the Republican Party needs. Rush thinks that it's either his way or the highway. I don't know what party he represents, but from what I know of the two political parties of this country, his ideals don't belong in either one.

No, this is how AMERICA feels! The vast majority feel the GOP has destroyed much of the good this county was. Now we actually have a remotely competent leader to fix what your grossly incompetent leaders broke.

Read more than one book, gain a broader perspective and you might start to have an understanding of how pathetic the GOP is.

Had Powell run for President in previous years, I along with many, would've voted for him. Why he stays in Republican party is beyond me because Powell has brains and uses them. Rush L is a blowhard sensationalist who has absolutely no brains to lead anything. Rush L is just a cult leader and nothing more. Maybe he should go back to pill-popping.

I hope Powell does lead a moderate party.
