RNC officially condemns Dems' 'march toward socialism'

The RNC approved a resolution calling on democrats to 'stop pushing our country towards socialism.'

OXON HILL, Maryland (CNN) - The Republican National Committee on Wednesday approved a resolution calling on the Democratic Party to "stop pushing our country towards socialism and governmental control."

The wording of the resolution was tweaked to strike controversial language that would have called on Democrats to rename themselves the "Democrat Socialist party." That proposal was criticized by some members of the RNC, including party chairman Michael Steele, as embarrassing and counterproductive.

The language was changed so that RNC members "wouldn't have to fight about it," according to one of the resolution's original sponsors.

The 13-point "resolution recognizing the Democrats' march towards socialism," criticizes President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress for passing a $787 billion stimulus package and favoring "massive government bailouts" of the financial, health care and mortgage industries.

The resolution accuses the Democratic Party of "implementing socialist programs through federal legislation" and being "dedicated to restructuring American society along socialist ideals."

"We were able to work out language that's before you that we think helps unify our party," said Henry Barbour, the chairman of resolutions committee. "This language more closely reflects the full sentiment of this body."

Steele did not address the resolution directly after it was passed by a verbal vote, but his aides distributed a statement to reporters.

"I am pleased that the committee adopted a resolution that focuses on the Democrats' policies and their destructive effects on America's economic engine, rather than attempting to rename our opponents," Steele said in the statement.

The resolution noted that RNC members defined socialism according to its definition in the American Heritage Dictionary.

The RNC approved three more resolutions. One commended Republican members of Congress for opposing "bailouts and reckless spending," another called on legislators to abandon the practice of earmarking, and a final resolution honored the memory of former Republican congressman Jack Kemp, who died earlier this month.

Republicans are just too scared that Obama policies will be a success, because if that happens they can forget of being in power for a long long long long time. Obama is doing basically the same than Roosevelt did after World War II that leaded this country to one of the most prosperous times in our history. Republicans with their actions are acting and looking very alike to the nazis, I am happy with their strategy because they are walking directly to disappearance since Americans have just rejected solidly their actions and ideas.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't a Republican administration last November tell the Amreican people that to avoid a national economic fiasco that the government (ie YOU), needed to bail out the banking institutions? If you recall, the initial response was outrage. And a Deomcratic majority Congress originally voted it down. Then the stock market went for a dive, scaring our legislators into I remember it vividly on C-SPAN. If the GOP wants to go down this road of uncontroled spending, how much has been spent on the Iraq war?Mind you, we had a Republican president and Congress at the time. Don't tell me Democrats are the only ones who can't balance a budget and seek Socialism.

    The RNC continues to entertain.

All that is missing are the facepaint and red noses, as they pour custard down each others' trousers, slyly kick each others' butts when their backs are turned, and throw cream pies about.

    Way to go, boys!

Don't let anyone tell you you are wasting your time and other people's money. This is too much fun to watch.

I thought we had more important things going on but the GOP wants to act like a bunch of babies. Not a word for 8 years about the Bush deficits. Even the GOP's messiah Ronnie ran up huge debts. The GOP is only mad because they are not in power and that the stimulus package is not a benefit to the rich. Bush wanted the 700 bln for the banks with no stings and this is where the problems began with the bailouts..

If that is true then, the other side of the coin must be the right wing nationalist fascist, that Benito Mussolini would be proud of, and Rush and friends would fit right into.

The repos wouldn't know socialism if it hit them in the head. They have Limbaugh criticizing General Powell and promoting ol Newt. They have wasted how much time putting this resolution togeather. They voted for the first bail out last year. remember? now they want to make a resolution opposing them. The American people are getting tired of these clown's. They are being paid by you and me to do this??? If they can't come up with sound ideas they should just shut up. The party of No

The name to describe what the Republican party has become is composed of six letters. The first letter is F, and the last is d. Figure it out.

ROTFL are you serious?? These are supposed to be grown adults?! Unbelievable...

    I got one for Republicans:
"Stop pushing your party towards HYPOCRISY and governmental nonsense!" We have serious issues facing our country, and these childish antics of the GOP are beyond reprehensible. Pathetic.

Am I missing something here? The Republican's completely ruined our economy, but thanks to President Obama's leadership the country is now moving in the right direction again.

The march toward socialism sure sounds a lot better than the "march to war" or "freedom fries". These people don't even know the first thing about socialism, they're nihilistic sociopaths! Michael Steele, the gift that eventually gets REALLY embarrassing.
