WASHINGTON (CNN) - Heading into the selection process, Sonia Sotomayor was the Supreme Court candidate President Obama knew the least. But her six-hour White House visit last Thursday - including an hour-long meeting with the president - clinched her the spot, according to a senior administration offficial.

He can sum up her character in a one hour meeting, but can't figure out the Reverend Wright after 20 years of Sundays?

And in the meantime, the Pentagon has acknowledged that 14% of released Gitmo detainees, those very detainees who were deemed the least risky to release amongst all detainees held at Gitmo, returned to the battlefield after their release.

But don't worry, Obama has a plan.

@Michael M, Phoenix AZ -

IF you think the ACLU supports America, instead of their own private liberal agenda...then you're the idiot. Anything that identifies with the founding of this country is tested in court by that group of Nazi's, often stepping on the rights of true Americans to make one liberal puke feel better about themselves. They support the "dumbing down," of America, and somehow I feel you're a life member?

greylocke5   May 26th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Her selection means that six of the nine justices will be Roman Catholic. A Vatican conspiracy, perhaps? Just kidding, of course. But it is ironic that Roe v. Wade will remain safe with six Catholics on the Court.

I hope his first question was "did you pay all your taxes?"

franco   May 26th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Tibala, why the personal attack on Jon?? He has an opinion, give him credit for his civility while expressing it. To often liberals need to be combative and personal when they do not agree wirth an opposing opinion. When you venture into personal attcks, your credibilty takes a dive. thanks

Romney2012   May 26th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

@TTBALA -

Think Jon's a bigot? Ask yourself one question...would Sotomayor have been elected if she was white? Maybe you're the bigot.

WHITE HOUSE INTERVIEW AS IT UNFOLDED:

Obama : "Can you bring me lots of votes from hispanics who'll believe there's hope and change in my socialist agenda, but in reality, they're being fooled only to fulfill my self-gratiifcation?"

Sotomayor: "Si."

Obama: "Great, as soon as I'm elected, we'll dance this around, and then act like I actually put some thought into your selection...."

Sotomayor: "Si."

Obama : "Don't forget the votes..by the way, how do you say "Acorn," in Spanish?"

Claudia in Houson   May 26th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

College graduates in their effort to achieve employment let this be a reminder of how you too can clinch your spot in an interview and good luck. Words of encouragement, YOU CAN DO IT TOO.

In spite of me being a staunch supporter of Obama, this was strike 2 for him (in my mind).

First his unfair treatment of Auto (GM & Chrysler) versus the Insurance & Banking industry. The auto companies actually produce something. banks & insurance just trade money inside smoke screens.

Second, in spite of the talk of "highly qualified", caving into the politics of a "hispanic" "woman". Politics trump even a "constitutional law professor".

dave from pa   May 26th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

This may sound crazy, but I WANT the Republican senators to vote "No" for Sotomayer. Why you ask? Two numbers: 12.5% and 2010. The 12.5% represents the percentage of hispanic citizens in this country. The 2010 represents the year that these same citizens will again excercise their right to vote. So, go ahead republicans; spew your hatred, fear, filibusters, and double-speak. The country and the world will be watching this one.

Joseph Ohiobo   May 26th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

Great choice. Not because of her race but her experience and qualification.

All of you who are attacking Jon in CA are the real idiots. He didn't say anything derogatory toward Ms. Sotomayor yet you result to name-calling. Grow up.

Dawn   May 26th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

Jon an Kevin, you are lucky that you are posting from the comfort of youe homes...The First woman appointed to The Supreme Court was by Ronald Reagan, Sandra Day-O'Conner and guess what he was a Republican. You two need to talk to Rush Limbaugh and ask for one of his psych meds, like Prozac, Paxil or Valium... Just take your meds and bow down to God, maybe SHE will forgive you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IndyVoter   May 26th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

LOL@ JT: You're right JT. They've got nothing. Pres. Obama was the President of the Harvard law review and an attorney. I doubt that anyone can graduate from Harvard Law (nevermind be the President of the Law Review) without being able to speak w/o a teleprompter or notes. Plus, Pres. Obama sounds better w/o a teleprompter on his worst day than Pres. Bush did with all of the technological aid in the world on his best day.

JP   May 26th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Did the six hour meeting get her the job or was it her sex and race.

Jon in CA is just another WASP who got caught up in the white supremacy myth. The world is changing, jonny boy.

todd   May 26th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

Obama: will you do my bidding?

Sotomayor: yes sir.

Obama: you're hired.

lois   May 26th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

Sharon Kitchen   May 26th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

good for her.

soon, the hearing will be over. She will be confirmed.

Proud DHS radical   May 26th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

As long as she follows the Constitution, I have no problems. It's when their bias sentiments clouds their ruling that it becomes a problem for the nation.

R in DC   May 26th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

Jon in CA,

People like you are too stupid to join in any kind of rational discussion. You should not be allowed to vote or procreate.

JT   May 26th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

Kevin in Ohio – You've got nothing.

What kind of lame talking point is a teleprompter???? Not only was this lame from day one. It is as stale as a fruitcake that's been passed around for decades. Most likely you still find it funny – or you wouldn't have bothered. Just goes to show –

You've got nothing!

I laugh at Limbaugh daily   May 26th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

Dont forget to turn out the light Jon.Its all over now hotshot.haha

Dee, NJ   May 26th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Judge Sotomayor, Congration! We are (Non-White), President Obama, you are the leader forever! THANK YOU!

TTBALA   May 26th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Jon in CA

The only bigot I see here is you Jon in CA Idiot, I am ashamed to say I live in the same state as you, get out this is not a state you are welcome to live in you stupid bigot

Peace   May 26th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

Hearing her speech she gave today, she was very confident. If she did the same during the interview, I do not see the reason/obstacle of not offering her the job!

Kevin in Ohio   May 26th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

I wonder if she learned how to use a teleprompter from the Master.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   May 26th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

I trust this nomination. The President is a student of the law and I'm 100% positive he made the correct choice.

Michael M, Phoenix AZ   May 26th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

Jon In CA,
Hey, idiot! The ACLU is more pro-American than you are. ACLU stands for American Civil Liberties Union....something too many American have forgotten about. The biggest farce of Americans being fair was when the American Indians were lied too and cheated out of their lands and then were being "eliminated" by the whites because they were trying to protect their freedom and land from invaders.

Paul   May 26th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

Congratulations Mrs. Sotomayor

Great choice Mr. President

God bless!!!

George Guadiane Austerlitz, NY   May 26th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

If the far "Right," Big Business, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, FORMER VP DICK Cheney and that ilk don't like her, then she must be a good choice for America. And the MORE they don't like her, the better she will probably be – with the understanding that there will SURELY be things about her that I won't like.
We're currently living (and trying to recover from) the Republican "American Dream," and you know how good THAT has been for the country.

Barb   May 26th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

Jon in CA

What you are accusing Ms Sotomayor of is exactly what you are showing yourself to be in these blogs.

You are an idiot!!!

Deb   May 26th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

So I guess he caved into the pressure to pick a woman and a hispanic.

aliousalam   May 26th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Jon in CA: Nominating white males year in year out is justice for whites, not for all. The income those people make from those cushy government jobs is not going into latino or black households.

They in turn hire more whites to junior positions and therefore, exclude the rest of the colored nation from the national cake.

One latina is not going to break the federal reserve bank. many white men broke the entire nation's economy, mind you.

aliousalam   May 26th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I want to hear that pitch because I am looking for a job.

Jon in CA   May 26th, 2009 11:52 am ET

An activist judge who thinks being a hispanic female gives her more clarity of law than "white males"...

The ACLU is a better home for you, Ms Sotomayor, NOT the SCOTUS. Hispanic bigotry is just as ugly as any other.
