President Obama headlined a fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Wednesday.

(CNN) – One day after President Obama was the headliner at a fundraiser at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, he heads tonight to Hollywood for two fundraisers for the Democratic Party.

The president will be the featured speaker at Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The events, which will also include performances by Jennifer Hudson and Earth Wind and Fire, are estimated to bring in around $3 million.

The campaign cash will come in handy, as the Democratic National Committee trails the Republican National Committee by about $15 million. The DNC raised around $4.4 million last month, about a million dollars less than the RNC.

UPDATE: Sen. Arlen Specter will join Obama at the Beverly Hills fundraiser, his fist appearance at a DNC event since switching sides earlier this month.

Last night, the president helped Reid rake in an estimated $1-2 million, according to the Senate Majority Leader's office. Reid is up for re-election next year, and Republicans think he's vulnerable. The most recent polling in Nevada suggests that only a minority of voters there think Reid deserves to be re-elected.

But the GOP has yet to come up with a competitive candidate to go up against Reid. The Senate Majority Leader hopes to keep it that way by raising a mountain of campaign cash for what's expected to be an expensive re-election campaign - a fundraising effort that got a major presidential assist last night in Las Vegas.

Obama can fly all over the world throwing parties trying to raise money to catch up to the Republican party. Fact is, his administration's decisions with bailouts, stimulus and foreign policy are not going well at all. Bottom line, this is what will count in 2010 and 2012.

Pray tell, what actions would you want the US to take? It is one thing to consistently criticize, but another to bring real solutions to the table. Now is your time.

P from CA   May 27th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

Glad the POTUS is here in CA. I'm sure he will do well fundraising. Democrats have a great chance here because the GOP and their ultra conservative views have really hurt our social, political and economic lives and the people are fed up. People tend to think CA loves their programs/services but doesn't want to pay for them. What we want is the GOP and business to quit being crooks and pay their fair share. We the people are aware that huge and devastating cuts are coming...we are just watching to see if the GOP cuts go to business this time or the people.

Once You Vote Black   May 27th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Part of Obama's job is defeating the GOP which is why he is in CA now and was in NV yesterday. But keep in mind that he was in Europe and Trukey when he stompped out the pirates in Somalia. Its called walking and chewing gum. Now if you don't like what he is doing perhaps you should go back to Europe.

Truth-Bomb Thrower   May 27th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Greg in SFO

The difference is that when W was doing fundraisers, we were not in the middle of multiple international crises. North Korea is testing us and there is still no answer. The crickets are chirping in the Oval Office while Obama jets off to Hollywood to rub elbows with the elitists.

Ron from CG   May 27th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

Shouldn't he be doing something about North Korea? We don't pay this guy $400K a year to be raising money for other guys we have to pay.

President Obama is visiting the people in various states and getting his supporters to contribute to his good policies. That's the kind of listening and calm President we need especially since the last 8 years of Republican diasters.

@ Bob in PA, who said "Let's have your liberal elite friends start to pony up voluntarily"

They do. Pay attention...there are myriad hollywood types who not only donate their money, but their time and sweat to worthy causes. The male half of Brangelina is a great example with all the work he is doing in New Orleans, which is not only helping get people into affordable housing, but also setting standards for "green" housing.

That being said, you might want to find a different word than "elite," because we're well aware that it's just GOPer code for "is informed uses facts and evidence to prove me wrong when he argues."

I know Paul from Phoenix may not have realized that since you guys are as backwards as the Southeast states. Heck, GA, AL, and MS had the King Holiday years before you did. But not only that, one of you bamas was upset because Barack Hussain Obama was using Air Force 1 to travel. Well get over it, its his until 2016. And Kevin Denver Colorado if Obama is a fraud then that would mean the GOP is not able to stop a fraud from taking over. You can blame Rush for Operation Chaos which took its eye off the ball in order to play games with the voting process.

Somehow it doesn't seem right that the President ask people in Las Vegas to donate money to a political campaign, when he has been so vocal about businesses not wasting their money in Las Vegas.

His words created the economy in Las Vegas to spiral down, creating a loss of jobs and businesses.
