Guess who said this? "When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender." Oops, not Sotomayor, it was Alito, hero of the right wing! Why are all of you so terrified of having a non-white woman in a position of power? Suck it up. Obama won the election. The world is changing. Get used to it.

Playbook for the Far Right AND the Far Left (comes straight from High School):

    1) Never argue a point on its merit
    2) Ridicule the person, rather than the point (this will cause those of weaker minds to relent so that they will not be put down)
    3) Scream and yell so that other opinions cannot be heard
    4) Lastly, try to have the message stopped by asking blogs and newspapers not to run their opinions.

Finally, we all lose because our country's growth depends upon open debate of differing views.

@ David white man in the suburbs:

Your claim that Obama and Sotomayor are constitutional scholars is so that they can dismantle it. I beg to differ, that was actually done by fomer GW Bush.

I can't help but laugh, and I mean laugh really LOUD, I mean a GUT BUSTING laugh when I hear white men, white men who have done nothing throughout history but gain their wealth at the expense and oppression of others, by exploiting others, beating down others, lynch others, kill others, attempted to wipe out a whole culture in order to keep them subservient to them, actually have the GALL, THE AUDACITY, THE NERVE to call somebody a racist. YEAH, I'm talking to you "David, white man, in suburbs."

Interesting. On the Diane Rheam show yesterday on NPR, a college professor said that she asked her students to write an essay on those life experiences that had influenced them most. The women and minorities in her classes had no trouble with this assignment. White males could not think of anything to write. The professor interpreted that is saying that white males' experiences were not influential because they were "expected" as a part of their life, the life of white males in this country.

“The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race,” Chief Justice Roberts wrote in 2007. How can this woman do that when she has explicitly stated that she believes her female hispanic "experience" makes her constitutional decisions superior to white men? This is not "Equal Justice Under Law".

I just don't understand all this about her. She is going to be just fine, probably the best, most experienced judge we ever had. Calm down, right wings, most moderate republicans like her.

One thing is very clear. Obama is not what he told us he was last year.., not that I was misled or anything like that.

OK..................all you angry white males, get used to it, you are no longer in power and will no longer be. Now is the time when the intentions of our founding fathers in creating this Constitution will realize the fulfilment of their dream, the dream of America.

The more I learn of Sotomayor, the more I think this was a poor choice. I'd rather Obama rethought his decision and made a choice based upon experience rather than to try and win future elections. To me this is the same as Biden. Incredibly bad choice without thinking it through enough.

Angry, white, rich Republican men don't like Sotomayor, because she is not one of them. So what. The Republicans are a dying breed, so why do we care what they think? Our nation is made up of people of all colors and over 50% are women, why should these groups not be represented in the highest court? The Republican's are simply sore losers and they are afraid that legal decisions might be made that actually effect the rest of us favorably, what a concept! Sorry good ole boys, your time has come and gone and now with Obama in the White House, perhaps our country will work for the rest of us now, and not only favor old rich white men, like they did under Bush.

President Obama "plays" most of you with every decision he makes. He is not interested in what is good for the country. He is interested in what is good for him and his future. He wants to be President of Everything–and everytime he makes a speech, (which is just about everyday) he blames every mistake that he or his administration makes on the former president, every good thing, he takes credit for. He chooses where he wants to make a speech, he chooses who he lets ask questions and the way that a lot of people intrepret his speeches are bowled over by the way he sets up his speeches. One question???? When have you heard him make a good speech WITHOUT his teleprompter??? He can't do it without a hum and a haw–and his press secretary has the same speech impediment.

Eh, looks like our President is one step ahead of republicans again. He choose very good judge, experienced, with good judgment, and at the same time created trap for right-wings and neocons:" Go ahead, slam her, and risk milions of latino votes next year"!
    Way to go, Mr. President!

If you want to figure out if her comments were racist, think about the reverse situation. If a white male had said a similar thing, his nomination would have been blocked right there.

Yes...conservative white men ARE losing control of this country. The days of conservative white men being in control of this country are OVER.

And do you know who is to blame for this?

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, etc.

It is Bush, Cheney, Rummy, and all their pals who have made conservative white men look like a bunch of incompetent, dishonest idiots who can no longer be trusted to run this country.

You guys NEVER should have stolen the 2000 election from Al Gore. BAD MOVE! You only ended up shooting yourselves in the foot doing so.

From now on, left of center african americans, hispanics, AND whites will be running the show. Get used to it.

it's just great that Obama has picked a person who will not follow the current tuition. Sotomayor is a racist, and it's proved by her statements. To many this country believe that only white people can be racist. That is a blatantly false line of thinking. I am half Puerto Rican and I can see that the comment about white men wasracist. Because apparently she thinks that white people never have any struggles, no matter racial background you come from there are going to be struggles. And anyone of any racial background can have rich life experiences. Finally to the person who commented before me, and said that Republicans should not have the right to have an opinion. You should know in this country that everyone is entitled to their opinion even if you do not agree with it.

As a 60 year old white woman, I find it amusing that so many white males feel intimidated by one Latino woman. Obviously, there is fear now that they are becoming a decreasing demographic and no one gives up power easily! Now they expect all the rest of us to feel "empathy" for them!!
