What showdown? The Republican Senators have been pretty silent about Mrs. Sotomayor.

I guess the media wants to make this a bigger issue than what it really is.....it's all about money and ratings.

It also appears that the media has either forgotten or decided that they are going to completely ignore the fact that it was the Democrats in Congress who blocked the first Hispanic nominated back in 2001 (Miguel Estrada).

Well just because they forgot doesn't mean that we (Latinos) have forgotten. If you stabbed us in the back once, you'll do it again when it's politically convenient.

Yeah, Maria. I'm sure when Estrada was nominated the Democrats DID NOT say he was a member of the KKK or that he was a 'racist' or other lies, like the Republicans are now doing by trying to character assassinate this intelligent and qualified woman who is Hispanic. Your argument holds no weight. P.S. And stop pretending that you are Latino. Everyone knows that there are only 2 Latinos left in the GOP and they are Alex Castelleanos and Leslie Sanchez! And I'm still praying that those two will jump that sinking ship soon!!!

I firmly believe that it is silly to think that a living, breathing, document like the constitution should be looked at like our forefathers look at society. Whenever the republicans want to oppose someone for the court they trot out this silly explanation of what they think the constitution stands for, however, I refuse to set aside our president who taught constitutional law and take the word of a high school drop out like Fat Rushbaugh. Our country has to stop trying to look at every situation through a racial lens. One more point, Judge Sotomayer, was not the only judge to rule against those firefighters, yet she seems to be taking all the blame. I wonder why that is.

Begala has a good point, Republicans would have free airtime to show America they are not a bunch of racists old white men, if they agree to move up the confirmation hearings. They're just not performing well with this. Obama's pick put them in a straight check mate and rather than conceding, they are going to die on this hill. Was General Kuster a Republican.

She did not rule against the firefighters, she ruled that the city legally had the right to do what they did, and that there was precedence to do it. This is exactly opposite of what judicial activism is in that it sought to maintain the law as it was instead of using the judicial branch to reinterpret them. She, in essence, upheld the very principle that the conservatives are saying she does not uphold.

The more Rush and the GOP milks a racial attack on Sotomayor, the faster their support leaves them in the rear view window.

  7. Desert Storm VETERAN - Welcome to the end of the era of dumb ass Republicans and Stoopid Retards like Rush Limbaugh and Newt in power

The Republican Indians are circling the wagon train again, ready to scalp Sotomayor and put her head on a fence post to frieghten off any other people of color who might think about serving in federal public office. Led by Chief Limbaugh, the Republican Indians are stocking their quivers with poisonous arrows ready to strike and inflict that mortal wound. But, what is really going to happen is that after President Obama serves 8 years as our great President, either Joe Biden will be elected for two four-year terms, or a Latina woman will become our next President. This will cause all the bleached white Republicans to have anxiety attacks and eventually result in the final paralysis of the GOP. This will be another glorious day for America. By the time the American Democratic Politcal Revolution is over, Republicans will have to start a homeless community under the I-405 freeway in Los Angeles, where they will live the rest of their days in filth, poverty and shame.

Lori, Maria is correct. It's the media (and talk-show hosts) that are fueling the debate, not Republican Senators and Representatives. You are getting caught up in their ratings strategies.

    Lori states to Maria:

"And stop pretending that you are Latino"

Lori the lib has just shown why the Conservatives must take back this country, and soon. What a complete Baffoon. If "MARIA" is not Latina, I don't know what is.
And Lori, since when is it OK for Libs to pray? Don't you criticize the Right Wing Religous Nut Jobs for all that's wrong in the world today?

This is all a fabrication of the media to promote ratings and justify all the salaries of so called talking heads and pundits that they employ.
Sotomayor will be confirmed and the GOP will look foolish and ill temperate as usual.

CNN, Shame on you. You are trying to create controversy where none exists. Rush Limbaugh has 20 million listeners that is great for his advertising but it is absolutely nothing in politics. By pretending that it is CNN is doing the whole country (especially reasonable Republicans- I-know you're out there-) a huge disservice. Free speech gives Limbaugh and his ilk the right to spew whatever he likes. But journalistic integrety demands a hire standard from CNN. I know that controversy sells, come on.

I woke up this morning listening to Pat Buchannan whining about the plight of the white male. How dare Judge Sotomayor make any type of comment on white males. Of course one sentence taken out of context shows that she is unfit as a Supreme Court Justice. How about looking at her record and the experience she has before rushing to judgement. Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gringrich, Glen Beck and the rest are just showing how weak and lost some white males have become. Karl Rove had the nerve to say she wasn't intelligent, OMG !!! Have any of them even met her or read any of her work, probably not. That McConnell couldn't come out and say what these men have been saying about Judge Sotomayor is wrong and uncalled for shows that he too is a coward. My goodness, it seems that unless President Obama had nominated a conservative white male no one else is worthy.

  13. I can't believe These Bozo's

Showdown? What showdown? These republican bozo's keep shooting themselves in the head. How stupid can some people be? Don't they realize that the country rejected conservatism as practiced in Bush/Cheney? Which part of the word "losers" don't they get? They need to jetison the intolerant hard right and move to the center. Someone needs to muzzle Rush. No one is doing single handed damage like he's doing to the republicans. Idiots...

The fact that Sotomayor made racist comments isn't a matter of debate. She made the statements. Whether or not she's a racist, only she knows and she's not about to admit it.
The point should be, should she be confirmed to the Supreme Court in spite of these comments.
It's a crap shoot and anyone who claims to know, one way or another is either a liar or a moron.
