Boehner slams Obama comments on Israel-Palestine, Iran

Boehner said he was concerned the president seemed to 'place equal blame on the Israelis and the Palestinians.'
Boehner said he was concerned the president seemed to 'place equal blame on the Israelis and the Palestinians.'

(CNN)–House Republican leader John Boehner on Thursday praised the tone of President Obama's address in Cairo but slammed the president's remarks on Israel and Palestine, and on engagement with Iran.

"I think the president delivered a thoughtful and optimistic speech, but I do have some concerns about some things that were mentioned in the speech," he said.

Boehner said he was concerned the president seemed to "place equal blame on the Israelis and the Palestinians."

"The Israelis have the right to defend themselves," he said "....Because Hamas is a terrorist organization, they have been funded by the Syrians and the Iranians, and I just don't think the Israelis deserve to be put into the same playpen with terrorists."

Obama's comments about Iran were a mistake, Boehner said.

"His point about Iran, where he continues to say that he will sit down with the Iranians without any preconditions - I just think that puts us in a position where America looks weak in the eyes of their rulers," Boehner said. "And given the outrageous statements that their leaders have made, I don't know how we can continue to say that we'll sit down and talk to them without some, without conditions. I think it makes America look weak."

Boehner also criticized the president for saying he wanted to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility "without having a plan in place for what to do with those detainees that are there."

Obama tried to make a moral equivalence between Israel building on the West Bank and 6,000,000 Jews being killed during the holocaust. WHAT!!!! Is he joking? In this same trip he was more than willing to say that the "US is one of the world's largest Muslim nations" but he was even faster to point out that the "US is not a Chrsitian nation" just a couple months ago. He now wants to negociate with the known terrorist organization Hamas. How long are his blind Liberal supporters going to ignore all of this?

The President placed equal blame on Israelis and Palestinians... it's interesting that Boehner equates all Palestinians with Hamas.

what is wrong with the people of Ohio that they would elect this creepy ineffective person. He needs to get a real job – maybe in a tanning salon. Ohio has severe economic problems and I don't think John cares – all he cares about is being on television. If he is re elected we need to re evaluate our system.

Obama didn't blame Isreal for fighting Hamas, he said they need to control their settlements that encroach on palistinian lands... which just makes sense. You cannot deny that both countires need to give a little in order for peace to work.

He wants to talk about defending, we took land from Palestinians and gave to Israelis, we created the mess, can we clean up our on mess? We created the mess in Iran, when we backed the Shaw and loss, can we own up to that? Closing Guantanamo Bay detention facility, it wouldn't be used if not for the war in Iraq, did we have a plan for that war?
No on all accounts and I guess we should be GOP!

CNN, you left out the part where Boehner said he was concerned about the Democrats treatment of middle class America. How he, or any republican has the nerve to bring up middle class America, a group of people they have tried to destroy is beyond me.
We now have a president who seeks to heal rather than declare unjustified wars. We now have a president who speaks with sincerity, intelligence, listens to and hears others. We now have a president who is liked and respected by the world.
Then we have you, Boehner, a hypocritical, unpopular politician who along with your fellow republicans are set on destroying our country.

Mr. Boehner, don't you think this country of ours is strong enough to not need the posturing your position requires of our leaders. Open honest discussions with those who disagree with us is not a sign a weakness, but one of wisdom. Hongering down for a fight is what got us in the unenviable position we now find ourselves in the world as a "bully." Do you honestly believe our lives are better protected by antagonizing the world rather than listening to them and attempting to find common ground. Please, put your guns down and begin to act like a grown up instead of a spoiled child that just hasn't gotten their way recently.

We have been doing exactly what this man is talking about and my question to him is hows it been working so for?

According to him we should change policy? Only a moroon would use this approach and only the wise know that if what your doing isnt working then the only option is to change if you want success.

America has so many allies that makes us always stronger than Iran, while Iran is isolated. Boehner needs to think before he speaks.

America did not worry about Obama making "America look weak" when he ran for president, and we're not worried about it now. Amazing the sabre-rattling, ever-hateful Republicans still haven't figured that out.

Is there anything that President Obama could do or say at this point that Mr. Boehner would agree with?

I know that it has been said a million times, but after 8 years of policies, messages and tones that were not effective (especially in the middle-east) shouldn't the GOP leadership at least give some benefit of doubt to a different approach?

I know that Mr. Boehner has his own agenda, but what about the policy that you do not make negative comments about the President once he leaves for another country, especially one like the one he was in today.

Not to mention Hamas was 'elected' using the system Bush had put in place; this isn't a result many of us wanted, but its the one the people 'elected'.

Now hush up Mr. Boehner and the rest of the Graying Opposition Party.
