(CNN) - Top Obama administration officials were in Albuquerque on Friday to announce new efforts to combat the flow of illegal drugs from Mexico.

The White House released a summary of its National Southwest Border Counternarcotics Strategy, aimed at not only stemming the trafficking of illegal narcotics, but also slowing the flow of cash and illegal firearms into Mexico.

The plan involves increased intelligence and enhanced technology. It also includes "targeted financial sanctions to disable drug trafficking
organizations," as well as heightened cooperation with Mexico, the White House said.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, Attorney General Eric Holder, and White House Drug Policy Chief Gil Kerlikowske planned to discuss the strategy at a news conference.

The endless, hopeless, WOD (war on drugs) continues without the name. 30+years of failure after failure continues without an effort to treat addiction instead of putting people in jail. Meanwhile, billions of dollars are going to Mexico drug lords instead of the US treasury. The alcohol industry will NEVER allow any competition to their drug which kills tens of thousands of people a year.

Just more good money after bad.

The ONLY way to really make a dent in ANY of this is to take the money away. And how do you do that? By LEGALIZATION. PERIOD. That is the ONLY thing that has EVER been shown to work. Why is it that the people can see it, even large segments of law enforcement see it, but the politicians just refuse to wake up and realize that their big money game is OVER? Being "tough on crime" is one thing, but when you have to manufacture the crime in the first place, it's just plain brain dead.

So it's just not going to happen that we will ever get politicians that have a brain amongst ALL of them, is it? The stupidity is just mind boggling!
