Brown slips on 'Obama Beach'

(CNN) – Even in a stirring, somber moment, the president’s last name can prove vexing to some.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown misspoke on stage during ceremonies for the 65th anniversary of D-Day at Omaha Beach, France, Saturday.

Discussing U.S.–Great Britain cooperation during the invasion, Brown said, “Next to Obama Beach, we join President Obama in paying particular tribute to the spectacular bravery of American soldiers who gave their lives”.

He stumbled again on a second reference to Omaha Beach before saying it correctly.

There was no reaction on the face of President Obama during the slip as he sat next to Britain's Prince Charles.

For Brown, the visit to Normandy was an escape from political pressures at home, where his government is under fire and a number of Cabinet members resigned this week. In a move some thought may be an effort to help the embattled Brown, the White House said Friday that Obama had called Brown on the eve of the trip to discuss the world economy and his speech to the Muslim world.

The White House statement noted, “President Obama looks forward to seeing Prime Minister Brown in Normandy on Saturday where they will continue their conversation.”

But even the respite from domestic politics for Brown didn’t bring an end to his rough week.

first of all Brown is a po.
that would signify that he is not very inyelligrnt.
second he has a fixation on Obama.
thord he is doing whatever he can to gain a few more hours as PM.

he is done, next he will be indicted.

Just like getting a college degree first requires grade school, middle and high school and then ENROLLING in college, the health care of this nation must be STARTED.

If it isn't perfect at first, work on what's wrong. We can't go from no health care to perfect health care overnight. Too bad, but realistic.

The first step is cutting out the horrendous profits the Insurance Companies make. Look at all the TV ads, and the biggest buildings in any town or city – ALL PAID FOR BY INS. CO. PROFITS.

Who cares. CNN just trying to stir up more stink. Don't have journalists - just gossip-mongers.

Good old CNN...only you would pounce on a momentous occasion to pounce on an error. The four leaders who spoke were incredible in their honor for their country's heroes and the meaning of their sacrifice.

Of course CNN viewers did not hear all of the speeches because CNN had weather reports, advertisements and commentary to use as interruptions. However Canada's CBC and Britain"s BBC honoured all four countries by showing all four speeches without commentary because they believe their citizens can interpret and decide for themselves.

The right wing nutballs are going apoplectic over this. They're screaming about it and a headline that is making the rounds saying something like "Brown renames Omaha Beach Obama Beach." It seems they're grabbing it from the satire type site, Anorak News. You can't pay for entertainment this funny!

A guy misspeaks and it's new. You gotta love the media. It's funny how Obama's slip-ups are never reported. Like when he spoke of the non-existent Austrian language. Now, that's just dumb.

Gordon Brown is human, and with the kind of pressure he has been under leading to the reshuffling of his Cabinet, he is bound to have a slip of the tongue on an occasion like the D-Day today! There could have been a typing erreor as well. Brown is a capable leader amd as such, with the World Economic crisis, and having held such a successful G20 Summit in London just a couple of months ago, it would be a disaster for the people of Britain to clamour for a change of leadership at this critical time of their Plitical History.

Let the status quo stay, and clean up the MPs pay scandals, work on Constitutional reforms and get on with govenrnace while all Political Parties prepare for the mandatory general elections due in May. 2010. God Bless the Queen!

Brown has a slip of the tongue (big deal) and the Obama haters come out and rant and rave, as usual. I love it. There is no better indicator as to how defeated and helpless they must feel to stoop to such silliness. Out of the White House, back to minority status in both houses of Congress...that’s what elections are all about. Get over it! Demographics continue to shift to the Democrats’ benefit, red states become blue, yet the ultra-right wingers continue to drag the Republican Party even further to the right and away from the emergent mainstream. The best way the media can help the liberal progressive movement is to continue to make Limbaugh, Hannity, Gingrich and Palin the face of the Republican Party.

Can we say "EMBARRASSING".... no doubt the man feels totally ridiculous. Any one can make a mis-speak.... but in this instance it is particularly sad... the whole world is watching... not once, but twice.... *LOL*

No, Jerad, it WAS funny when Bush put his foot in his mouth at every opportunity and then usually bit it off right after! Most of those MISSPEAKS were not really treating to the glaring media light! It was just our dear old bumbling idiot of a President!

Obama is intelligent and articulate! Not many misspeaks to report! Where were all you Right Wing Fanatics when Bush was Bumbling his way through 8 years of idiocy while the whole world watched?
