(CNN) – Even in a stirring, somber moment, the president’s last name can prove vexing to some.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown misspoke on stage during ceremonies for the 65th anniversary of D-Day at Omaha Beach, France, Saturday.
Discussing U.S.–Great Britain cooperation during the invasion, Brown said, “Next to Obama Beach, we join President Obama in paying particular tribute to the spectacular bravery of American soldiers who gave their lives”.
He stumbled again on a second reference to Omaha Beach before saying it correctly.
There was no reaction on the face of President Obama during the slip as he sat next to Britain's Prince Charles.
For Brown, the visit to Normandy was an escape from political pressures at home, where his government is under fire and a number of Cabinet members resigned this week. In a move some thought may be an effort to help the embattled Brown, the White House said Friday that Obama had called Brown on the eve of the trip to discuss the world economy and his speech to the Muslim world.
The White House statement noted, “President Obama looks forward to seeing Prime Minister Brown in Normandy on Saturday where they will continue their conversation.”
But even the respite from domestic politics for Brown didn’t bring an end to his rough week.

Haha, yeah I think there's a fine line between REAL NEWS and ENTERTAINMENT.
CNN seems to report on both >.>
They call this news? Doesn't anyone else ever mis-speak? Petty and trivial considering what the day is supposed to commemorate, don't you think CNN?
James, are you just learning English? I mean, can anyone decipher this madness???
"since veterans named radical terrorist by obama adminstration army recruiters shot down one dead because obama told FBI to stop investagating radical muslims and disabled veteran harrased about military stickers on vehicle us veterans declared war on"
Good grief – I am SO glad that I am in the company of a group of people that has never made an error. The air is SO rare up here.
O Mad Obama Beach! He meant
In this day and age of teleprompters to call Omaha beach Obama beach is grossly disrespectful to the young Americans that fought gallantly and died terribly on that beach.
But maybe Gordon Brown is caught up in the popularity and charisma of Obama like this nation is even though he is, in my opinion, altering the very essence of America and not in a good manner.
Brown will go than Obama next...Neither one have an original thought....They are good readers of somone else's works.......Both get sucked up by themselves.......No one really cares , if leaders don't have great ideas and can carry them out fully........We don't like " Lets Play President"
CNN you should be ashamed of printing this petty story. You act like simple minded children making fun of Gordon Brown miss speaking.
CNN has not been a respectful news network for a long time, this is just another example of it.
Gordon Brown thank you for you speech, I felt pride and hope listening to you and President Obama.
Maybe Obama, while in France, can apologize to the French for getting their beaches dirty with American blood.
America is the greatest bastion of freedom in this land. The great apologizer wants to change that.
BTW, CNN has no guts and won't post this comment because it speaks TRUTH. The Liberals rant about the patriot act, but CNN sure is quick to remove the Pro-America posts!
So many people are infatuated with his name...
Brown isn't even liked in his own country
Prime Minister Brown should stay as close as he can with President Obama to rub off some of Obama's high marks in the polls. It is a smart move on his part as he and his party are in deep trouble in Great Britain!!
This displays the love that world leaders have in their inner for our president. Go America! Go
It's really funny that none of you Dems had this attitude about a misspeak whenever Bush or McCain did it. It certainly made the news then. You demo children need to grow up.
Thank you to all of those who fought for the Allies in WW2. America's Greatest Generation indeed.
CNN why would you report on this and then as for comment because PM Brown mispoke in his speech. You need to look for better stories to cover.
The mistake by Gordon Brown is really disgusting!!!!
Obama is a disgrace to this nation and the world war II vets.
Just be thankful he didn't refer to the President as Osama.
It's called omaha beach, obama is not that important for someone to call it obama beach. everyone needs to get over obama he is a moron.
Not news except to Fox, who will turn it into Sunday's main discussion no doubt. That and the fact the Obama is STILL not back in Washington...how much vacation does the guy need?
Wait, that was their cherished Bush, who took two weeks away for every week he was in the White House reading books unrelated to national crises.
Leave it to those crack reporters at CNN to find the one thing about the moving tribute to World War II soldiers from Great Britain, Canada, France and the US that is truly trivial and make it the centerpiece of their coverage.
This isn't news, it belongs in a snarky tabloid
jack is on vacation at obama beach, its too funny way to go jack!
What I find amusing about all of this is if this were Bush, those saying that PM Gordon Brown is 'just human' and is 'allowed to make mistakes' would be the first to jump on the Bush bashing. Yes, Bush was not a very good speaker, and would often put his foot in his mouth, but so does PM Brown.
Not only that, but President Obama is not that great of a man. He is unique in aspects that he has been placed in his position by the citizens of the US, but that does not elevate him to the demigod status that many view him as. Have you ever seen Obama speak without his speech-writers having something ready for him to go? He would not be as effective as he is. The genious behind Obama is rooted in those who he depends on to make his image. Without them, he would be bumbling around like anyone else.
Put credit where credit is due, and remember everything that goes into making the image of the man named President Barak Obama.
I don't care. That's why I read it and then bothered to leave a comment, just like all these other geniuses.
