Mayor Nagin is headed to Australia after being under quarantine in China.

(CNN) - New Orleans, Louisiana, Mayor Ray Nagin, who was quarantined in China after possible exposure to the H1N1 virus, was released Wednesday to continue an economic development trip.

Nagin told CNN he had left the country in the morning and was headed to Australia.

The mayor had been quarantined since Sunday after flying on a plane that also carried a passenger who is being treated for symptoms suspected to be from the virus, commonly known as swine flu, his staff said.

Ceeon Quiett, the mayor's director of communications, told CNN that Nagin had been sitting beside a passenger who "exhibited the symptoms of H1N1," but Nagin showed no signs of illness.

Way to go China. That's the way to establish connections and relations between countries. What a mess. :(

I've sworn off all possiblities of a trip to New Orleans until he is no longer mayor.

kdm   June 11th, 2009 1:20 am ET

my only wish is that China would have kept him.

As a resident of New Orleans, we are counting down the days until this man is gone from our lives for good....

Apart from our city receiving the infamous designation as the number one murder capital in the United States (for the second year in a row), this is the most noteworthy thing he's done in years!

Oh well...

Aw shucks, and I was so hoping they would decide to keep him for life. New Orleans would be so much better off without him.

My son has swine flu right now and it's really NOT a big deal (unless you're very old, very young, or very sickly to begin with). It's the beginning of day 3 and he's already recovered.

As far as flu's go, H1N1 really isn't bad. Quarantining Nagin was silly.

Nagin heading to Australia, perhaps Obama check to see if he has a offshore bank account there. We all know NO received money from federal govt and private donations for Katrina. What we dont know is how much and what was it spent on. Under Bush, dems were outraged re: NO not being rebuilt. Were is their outrage under Obama. Oh, pardon me, they have selective outrage and of course its always based on political convience. Notice that Obamas most vocal supporters are the same people who so knee-jerked condemned the Bush FEMA debacle, yet somehow mysteriously want that same bureaucratic runaway bulldozer to take control of Americas healthcare, banking, auto businesses, and God knows what else.

Is there some way we can keep him over in China a little longer. Things are going so well without him.

Tiger Eyes   June 10th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

He may not have exhibited symptoms of H1N1, but definitely all signs point to mental instability ... someone should have given him a camera, shoved him into North Korea to take pictures ... maybe he would be quarantined for life in labor camps! This guy is a bafoon.

The fact that his health isn't in danger
is a blessing in disguise

Just a little vacation for Mayor Nagin paid for by the taxpayers. Well, at least he's government..... he has the best health care money can buy. Oh, wait, he's government so he doesn't pay for health care. We the taxpayers pay for his (government) health care, and his vacations, and his perks.................................

Very Interesting , thousands of New Orleans residents homeless and and unable to rebuild their homes and the Mayor and wife are on a Asian vacation on the taxpayers dime.........I bet he wished he had taken a different flight and kept his little getaway under the radar.

Darn. I was hoping they would keep him forever.
