Obama calls Holocaust Museum shooting an 'outrageous act'

The White House issued the following statement Wednesday evening from President Obama:

“I am shocked and saddened by today’s shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. This outrageous act reminds us that we must remain vigilant against anti-Semitism and prejudice in all its forms. No American institution is more important to this effort than the Holocaust Museum, and no act of violence will diminish our determination to honor those who were lost by building a more peaceful and tolerant world.

“Today, we have lost a courageous security guard who stood watch at this place of solemn remembrance. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this painful time.”

The toll mounts, first 3 policeman killed because the killer thought President Obama was going to take his guns away.

Then an army recruit is killed because of a "religious jihad" for his new religion..

A doctor that performs abortions is killed and the killer is "thankful:

Now, this White Supremacist goes after folks at the Holocaust Museum.

It is time for radio host,s political pundits, supposed "christians" and cable chatter bobble-heads to stop fanning the flames of hate, racism and bigotry in this country or this will only get worse.

I prey and hope that something can be done about the hateful white supremacy groups that are in America. Perhaps an amendment to the first amendment to out law such evil gathering, all need to be done is to out law any group that has ties to any one who is a white supremacist.

I have been to this museum, and it humbled me. What Hitler managed to make people do for him was inhuman and pure evil.
Now we have Rush and Hannity screaming about gun rights while people are being killed on our streets for no reason other than the gunman (why is it always a man?) disagreed with something. I do wish the Republican Party would grow up and stop this fear-mongering, incitement to riot approach. No liberal will come after YOU with a gun, and you know that...but some nutty Conservative might.

WHAT IS OUR GOVERNMENT DOING TO STOP THE KILLING OF INNOCENT BY:
    1. Home grown Terrorists.

Mighty fancy talk coming from the man in charge of the law enforcement institutions designed to uphold our vigilance.

"This outrageous act reminds us that we must remain vigilant against anti-Semitism and prejudice in all its forms..."

Where was the FBI? Where was the NSA? Where was the DHS? Why were these people standing around while this Nazi got away with murder. They all knew about him.
They gave him a pass because he's white and a Christian. The fault for this latest act of terrorism lies squarely at the foot of government and law enforcement. This poor guard, this hero, did not have to die.
We allowed this to happen through our acquiescence.
We must make sure it never happens again.

My prayers go to the family of the slain security officer.

Right Conservatives or Republicans need not use this forum to rationalize or justify their beliefs or those of their brethren.

Their campaign rhetoric served as the fuel for actions such as the shooting at the Holocaust Museum; even if it came out of the mouth of a ‘pretty woman’.

The Republican/Conservative/Right has run out of options. All that remains for them is violence. This is a proud day for them; especially the Palin Lynch Mob.

While Gingrich, Limbaugh and company have played ugly semantic games, gleefully deriding Judge Sotomayor as "racist," the reality of race-hatred and political violence remain a deadly threat. The flames of hatred are fanned in no small part by that element of the GOP that has decided to exploit white resentment and self-pity in its quest to retake power during the next two election cycles. Every day, talk radio and Fox TV find ways to suggest that whites (especially white men) are "victims" of the current administration; every day, white rage is treated as something legitimate and real and even revolutionary. All those folks who were buying up guns and ammo after the election were bound to make their presence felt sooner or later; in the environment the right has created, we should expect more tragedies like the murder of Dr. Tiller and the slaying of the museum guard today.

I'm disgustted by the violence going on in this country in recent months. We need to do more to shed light to hate speech and put a stop to this violence. The media need to be in the forefront and discuss this issue honestly to make this a public service. There's too many hate groups out here causing chaos and the media doesn't do the American people any favors by not opening up an honest dialogue. The report of Homeland security discussed these issues but some folks called it prejudice because it highlight extremist from the right. Imagine if we took the time to talk about these issues we could of save a life. CNN I respect your reporting of this news and I hope people are taking notes and maybe someone out there would think twice about killing another human being.

It is good to finally have a President who understands the core values of our country, who teaches them with his words, and who promotes them with his actions.

I do not agree with President Obama on everything he has done, but his character and integrity are raising the bar for all future office holders.

I join him in offering my prayers to the friends and family of the security guard killed by the Neo-Nazi movement.

Perhaps the Department of Justice, FBI, ATF, and Homeland Security will finally dismantle these extended networks of racist terrorists (Neo-Nazis, Skinheads, Militias, New Black Panthers, Operation Rescue, Five Percent Nation, etc) that have grown across the country since 1865 (check out the most recent data in the Southern Poverty Law Center's list of extremist hate groups).

As a Minister and Chaplain I neither condone nor accept the words of this man. Surely a "true" man of God would accept that Jesus was a Jew and his references to 'them jews" are offensive and extremely distasteful. This man disrespects both the faith that he professes to celebrate, the people whom he supposedly shepherds, and the racial group from which he seeks his "fame" and so-called "celebrity" status. Is it any wonder that he continually loses both credibility and support.

I am so sorry for these reminders of hate that is still so rampant within our own country; and the weight and pains in which are continually being placed upon your shoulders to bear Mr. President Obama! WE, the American public and people want to express our deepest sorrow and shame for such ignorance acted and spoken in a country which creates its own harmful barriers that only prevents working together to enrich lives with the blessings that we all carry and can offer as a gift to the future of this great Nation and the World we leave behind! As our President, you give me the skills and hope to witness peace without fear in my lifetime. May God continue to Bless Us.

Why does the Media and the education system of America keep insisting that there were Six Million jews killed in the Holocaust...when there were not even that many jews living in that geographical area that could have been killed, even if they ALL had been killed? Which they were not. They were not ALL killed. Which makes the official story all the more implausible. Kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Could it be, that the whole business of grossly exagerating the holocaust has been used to justify the creation of the jewish state. Wow, people will believe absolutely anything they are spoon-fed by the media, with no questions asked. It's amazing, simply amazing. The holocaust simply could not have killed as many jews as being told, under any circumstances or theory of the imagination. It is just not possible, it is not physically possible. Why are people like sheep, they just go with the herd, and believe what the herd is told they are supposed to believe.

President Obama is a decent man and a Christian man whose first inclination is to reach out to his enemies, to heal, and to forgive. But its time for him to remind folks that our nation operates under the rule of law. He should unleash the FBI to track down violent domestic hate groups with the same vigor being applied to foreign terrorists. He should have those leaders of the previous administration who broke laws brought up on charges. He's gone out of his way to bring all of these miscreants back into the American fold. Now he needs to remind those who consider themselves above the law that there are serious consequences. The carrot is fine, but its time for the stick.

I agree this act is despicable and unconscionable.
This isn’t meant to sound disrespectful, but it raises another question, where is Mr. Obama's outrage at the solder killed and another shot and wounded in front of a recruiting station by a radical Muslim extremist? Is it he doesn’t really care about our solders or is it he MUST ignore the obvious existence of Islamic fundamentalism or both?

I was watching Campbell Brown about whether we are too soft on terrorists, felons, etc. I think that persons such as the shooter of the security guard lost his rights when he became a felon. I also think that when a person preaches bodily harm, killing, etc. he loses his right to freedom of speech. He took someone else's freedom to live. I definitely think we are too soft on law breakers such as terrorists and the like.

There are hundreds of hate crimes in the US every week. There are dozens of hate-crime related killings every month. Why is it only this one that made the news or caught the President's ear? If the media got off their lazy bums and paid attention people wouldn't be so complacent about them, and we could have easily reduced these incidences, and maybe even prevented this one incident from ever happening!

Domestic terrorism worries me much more than foreign terrorists. Racists, right-wing lunatics, anti-abortion activists, and religious fundamentalists do not believe that I have a right to disagree with them. They do not believe that Congress has a right to pass laws that they disagree with. They do not believe that I have a right to express my opinion if they disagree with it. My own right-wing lunatic Governor Perry proposes that Texas secede from the Union.

I personally am tired of humoring these nuts, listening to them while they refuse to listen to me. Normally you'd only hear in tasteless racists jokes the story that a nazi walks into the Holocaust museum to kill a black man. But it's reality, people. Open your eyes, we live in a racist country! The mainstream, corporate media is encouraging racism and hate and even defends these terrorists just to get people frightened, watching, and get more advertisement dollars. And people don't even care. They write a few angry notes, but in the end forget about it by next week when the media prints stories again about Sarah Palin again whining to get people's attention. We shouldn't let this happen. Racism happens every day, everywhere, not just when somebody gets killed in a national museum!

Together with the recent fatal shooting at a church, it will take some long, hard looking to find any good in the wake of this terrible fear, hatred and loathing.

This guy was a nutcase. What he did was inexcusable. I guess all the anti gun nuts will jump on this. It is crazies like this who make it hard on law abiding hunters and gun owners.

So am I Barack, what that man did was flat-out wrong, but the nation still awaits to hear your outpouring of sympathy over the killing of Pvt. Long by a Black Muslim terrorist (fresh out of terrorism school in Yemen)....so much for you keeping our country safe or even caring about it.

What sickens me is that you don't even try to hide it...why don't you just have Holder drop the charges ton he guy like you did for the Black Panthers in Philly.

I have no respect for clowns like you.

what happened today in washington is very sad. people who carry out these violent acts need to be prosacuted to the fullest extent of the law. this will make it clear that WE will not tolerate this type of ignorant backward behavior.

Now, will we start fighting our domestic terrorists, or pretend that they do not exist because they're white.

Two months ago, after the "Tea Parties", I was ridiculed when I warned that we would see a resurgence of the right-wing violence of the '90s.

Shortly thereafter, a Redflex worker here in Arizona was assassinated; then there was Doctor Tiller, and now this.

I fear that the bombings are not far off.

To all the Neo-Nazi and Nazi mentality guys: To all those who hate Blacks and Jews: To all Racists:

Today James von Brunn got shot back by the Secutiry Guard. Today is 2009, not 1940. Probably James von Brunn would be a Hero in 1940 for what he did today. But in 2009 he got shot back.

If you Nazis harm others, your asses will also get kicked. Hitler existed in 1940s. In 2009 Hitler would have been hiding in the Caves of Afghanistan like Bin Laden.

Hitler was the biggest coward in Human History. He killed innocent, women and childern. If he had balls, he would have dared Russia, America, England. Hitler never got out of Germany, except to countries that were weak and unable to defend themselves.

This is just more proof that the far right wing is out of control. Just last month we were warned that right wing extremists would come out of the shadows, and the homeland security secretary Janet N (sorry I cannot correctly spell her last name) was critized and forced to apologize! She was correct all along! This crazinest needs to stop. Limbaugh and Newt certainly are not helping matters either.

Breaks my heart to see this...
9/11 was bad, but that was allegedly by foreigners. This was one of our own. The hate that has been spewed by our "loyal" opposition from Limbaugh, Palin, Chaney, the conservative media, and the religious right should share in the collective guilt and realize that their rhetoric has just taken a life.
The taking of one's life kills us all.
    My prayers to the family...

What will this world come to when people act out their hatred instead of express it peacefully? Oh yea! You can't because hate and peace don't mix like oil and water.

My heart goes out to the brave guardsmen everywhere securing the people going in and out of these institutions.

This heinous act today reminds us all to stay vigilant and aware, and no matter where you're from and where you've been, hatred, prejudice, ignorance, and anti-Semitism lives and breathe all around us. From the lowest of class to the highest hierachial positions, it exists. Just live your lives with awareness, because although there's good law-abiding citizens, there's someone out there who wants to do nothing but hate and terrorize others.

May God rest the soul of the fallen security guard.
