The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the former Chicago pastor, is again making waves over recent comments about his current relationship with the commander-in-chief.

(CNN) - The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the former Chicago pastor whose racially-charged sermons threatened to implode President Obama's primary bid last year, is again making waves over recent comments about his current relationship with the commander-in-chief.

"Them Jews aren't going to let him talk to me," Wright told Virginia newspaper The Daily Press when asked if he still spoke with Obama. "I told my baby daughter, that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office."

"They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is," he added. "I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."

The former pastor of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, where Obama was a congregant for nearly two decades, also told the paper he holds no grudges against the president's very public break from Wright last year.

"He's my son. I'm proud of him," Wright said. "I've got five biological kids. They all make mistakes and bad choices. I haven't stopped loving any of them. He made mistakes. He made bad choices. I've got kids who listen to their friends. He listened to those around him. I did not disown him."

Wright, who became a lighting rod for criticism last year after members of the media unearthed controversial sermons criticizing the U.S. government, also said he has no regrets for the heated language he has used on the pulpit.

"Regret for what…that the media went back five, seven, 10 years and spent $4,000 buying 20 years worth of sermons to hear what I've been preaching for 20 years?" he said. "Regret for preaching like I've been preaching for 50 years? Absolutely none."

The White House is not commenting on Wright's remarks.

Where's the Peace   June 10th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Seriously? If it's true that Rev. Wright said these things then I feel sorry for him. I feel sorry that as a Clergyman he feels this type of rhetoric is God-like, peaceful and right. He needs to look inward and worry about his mind and soul - does he speak from love? Does he speak from a desire to bring people together, to respectfully dialogue and disagree or is he speaking from hate and jealousy, ego and pride.

Dee   June 10th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Alzheimer's??? One could almost hope. Not being very smart but he can exercise his freedom of speech. I am so tired of hate and anger from everyone.

Michigan Jim   June 10th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Sorry Dems, but there's no moral equivalency here between Rev. Wright and Limbaugh, Cheney, Hannity, etc. Rev. Wright expressly speaks racism in stark terms. Limbaugh, Cheney, etc. simply strongly disagree with BHO's policy prescriptions. Yes, there is a difference in the two forms of speech, although many of you seem to believe that any opposition to BHO is inherently rascist.

Jesus Christ. Wait, isn't he the root of all these problems?

I am a Democrat but I don't like some of Obama's actions:

He ignores his extremely poor brothers and sisters; his illegal immigrant aunt;

after all HE IS A POLITICIAN and he can throw anybody under the bus.

JCLN   June 10th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Nice grammar, Pastor. Nice racism, Pastor. Time to extricate your head from your posterior and join reality. With people like you in the pulpit, it's no wonder we have weirdo, religious nuts in this country spewing their crap.

Aaron   June 10th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

This is the problem with the world. "Your entitled to your opinion". It's not an opinion that the Army was exposing black soldiers to syphilis in the Tuskegee Experiments, where they brought it home to their wives and children. That's not an opinion. Just like it's not an opinion that the 95% of the wealth is in less than 5% of population, and of that 5% most of them are Jewish Families. It's not an opinion, that we are propping up a Police State military dictatorship for our "Allies" in Israel, and it's not a opinion, that the international banking cartels and the military industrial complex which is taking this country into hardcore tyranny, by way of Authoritatrian Socialism, are using the Cloven Piven method. It's not opinion if a dog is mauling your arm. " Oh I'm just a rascist or whatever key word you can use to co-opt social engineers, predictive programming.

Edy from NJ   June 10th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

Wright is right. President Obama is a politician and he is playing the political game with us, his own voters. President Obama said he is going to improve the economy ASAP, but only 5% of the stimulus money has gone in the market. Why the government is still holding the 95% of the money? People are losing jobs every day. People need to get back to work. I made a mistake for voting for you, but it won’t happen again.

Trey J   June 10th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

I am a big Obama backer! I think he's doing a good job despite the what others might say.
If Rev. Wright feels that way well (he's no different from any other American using his 1st Amendment rights)
Sometimes it is what it is!

What an idiot Wright makes Jesse Jackson look like the

Racist ,and I quote the article "SPADE"
Hope this goes on line or can only he callout Spade.

nola   June 10th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

Rev. Wright needs to go away for a long long time. President Obama has too many serious issues to address – he does not have the time to engage in any of Rev. Wright's hate conversations.

Ted Tartaglia   June 10th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

It is no wonder Obama doesn't talk to him. Just read his remarks. Wright sure sounds like a racist based on his remarks.

history repeats   June 10th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

the fact is america has been very hard on black people up until about 20 yrs ago. when i heard rev. wright's sermon i didnt think it was crazy. everybody was telling me "you have to hear what he said, its nuts" i watched it and it turned out that i didnt think it was far fetched at all!! blacks were treated like animals for GENERATIONS!! they were raped and killed and used as free work for hundreds of yrs and white america is insulted by what this guy said? are we really that ignorant? is it really that insulting?? however the man is pretty pathetic in this article comparing obama to one of his kids. thats just plain ignorance. but what do you expect. monotheism is all about worshipping and obediance regardless of proof. this guy is a reverand. he thinks he is the head of his community. he thinks he has a hand to GOD! a mythical creature in the clouds!! he thinks he deserves something from obama i guess. religion is truly poisoness.

Ken   June 10th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

Religious Fanatacism – can't beat it for craziness! This man (like many other loonies) should never be heard from again!

TheFabOne   June 10th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

If it's true what he said about 'them Jews', then I can't hold with that. Rev. Wright, please don't embarrass your President, your so-called 'friend', any longer.

We in the Black community need new leaders. People like this, like Jesse Jackleg, like Rappin' Al Sharpton make progressive African-Americans like me cringe. In embarrassment.

Joe - Chicago   June 10th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

Neither one is a credit to their race.

Lori believes the GOP's rhetoric is breeding White Supermacists   June 10th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Right now, I am fearful for my country. Not because of Rev. Wright (what the heck can he do) but I am afraid that the Conservatives fear-mongering and race baiting is causing white supermacists in the country over the edge. Jewish people aren't afraid of an idiot like Rev. Wright but many people are afraid of all the race-baiting that is going on in the Republican party today. Their political leaders pretend to like the Jewish community however, some of their followers are racists against blacks and Jews (especially those in red states). Let's not kid ourselves. White Supremacists are NOT voting for the Democrats (and definately not for President Obama), they tend to be right-wing nuts (conservatives).

Lol,here we go again. Can't some folks just learn to keep their thoughts to them selfs?Between the repubs and his old paster it seems that Mr.Oboma gets no breaks in the media now days. Can we give the man some room to work.We can vote him back in or out on how he does but intil then, give the man a break.I not to pleased with his job so far on some issues but on others i do agree and when the time comes i will grade his job pass-or-fail in the voting both as well as all americans that care to vote as well.Hence we are a democratic country and proud of that.

Jimmy   June 10th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

For those who wonder what's wrong with saying "them Jews", it's simple: their religion has nothing to do with what he's saying. If he said, "Those Chevy-driving men won't let me see him!" wouldn't you think to yourself, "That's odd, I wonder why he brought Chevrolet into it and said it in a derogatory fashion - that has nothing to do with it." It's the same thing, only worse because Chevy drivers are not typically discriminated against and persecuted the ways Jews have been!

Jared   June 10th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

He will always be a thorn in Obama's flesh.

Some ask why Obama was a part of this church. I think it was probably more a matter of Obama seeking a connection with the black community, than his personal connection with Mr. Wright. Rev. Wright is very similar to a lot of preachers of the same ilk. It's a whole shtick they have, and it works. Of course, outsiders would think the guy is nuts. It's all a show though.

So far, I am happy with Obama's conduct. I think he probably spent some years as a youthful zealot, but so did a lot of people, including myself. As he got older, he chilled out a bit and became the pragmatic centrist he is now proving to be. Obama is shaping up to be a good President.

Luke Brown   June 10th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

esblofeld   June 10th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

See, the problem here is that Republicans absorb everything their preachers say like a sponge, so they assume more rational and open-minded people like Obama do the same. If you've never disagreed with something your pastor says, then you're really not getting anything out of it other than solidifying your own biases.

Unfazed   June 10th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Wright is all about Wright. Limbaugh is all about Limbaugh. Cheney is all about Cheney. Jackson is all about Jackson. Palin is all about Palin.

There is much work to be done to get this country back on track. We cannot afford to focus on men and women who are only promoting division and hatred. President Obama and his administration are working to get us moving in the right direction. Not everyone will agree with the way it's being done, that's to be expected. But, turnaround is in progress, thanks to the efforts of the men and women who do what they're elected/appointed to do. Let's get behind them and encourage/support them.

For those of you don't hear Hannity or Rush or Bill O' don't use hateful language, how many times have you heard them speaking against the Muslim religion? Since "Jew" is in reference to a religion, not a race, it is not racism. I am not saying what Wright said is good or correct, but to say hate is not spread by Fox News is just plain ignorant. Just as ignorant as Rev. Wright.

Jews do have an inordinate amount of political, economic, and media clout considering their population percentage. Just as women and minorities are under-represented in government, and higher levels of management in corporate america. That's not anti-anything, it is the truth.

BO didn't disown this guy until he became a liability during the election. If I am attending a church and I find the pastor to be too radical or too liberal, I go to another church, and I don't wait 20 years to do it. But then again, BO is the guy who spent 700 Billion and then tells congress they can't spend anything without having the money for it.

Bill in Ct.   June 10th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

YYYYES Rev. Wright is telling the truth. He has always told the truth about this country and the crap that goes on to people of color, he hasn't said anything wrong that the average black person knows that goes on. So speak your mind Rev. Wright. When the white guy speaks his mind, it's ok but let a person of color speak out, the country and the media goes crazy and call them hate mongers or their Anti-American. PLEASE, you go Rev. Wright.

Fellows, lets not generalise or politicised this issue. Rev. Wright is only speaking for himself and it should not give any body the opportunity to rain insults on anybody, espectially an ordained man of God. He is still a man just like we all are, and we all make mistakes.

Jamie   June 10th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

He is referring to Axelrod and Rahm and not the Israel.

Honest Fred   June 10th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

You are all idiots. The Jew he is referring to is Rahm Emanuel, chief of staff for President Obama. I think this is much less a racial epithet (although the choice of using Jew in the plural may be a Freudian slip) than frustration that Rahm is doing a good job driving a wedge between the two of them. If this pisses off Reverend Wright, then so be it. I really don't give a rat's *** what he thinks.

Oh give it up people. How many questionable associations do you guys have? Let alone those in positions of power?

Wright is a man haunted by ghosts of the past And not too distant past, either. Please keep in mind that just 50 years ago, a black man was rather likely to be lynched, beaten, jailed etc just for being black. Also keep in mind that some of those that were responsible for such acts are alive and well today, but also "inspiring" their offspring in like manners.

I don't agree with what Wright said, but you cannot deny that as a victim (ooops, there's that word you guys hate so much) of racism, it is understandable that he harbors some resentment. As a rape victim would agains the rapist, as the jewish community has towards germans.

Dude you need to really shut your pie hole.

The reason why he won't talk to you is this news clip right here.

You're a mouth sore that won't go away Rev. Wright.

Be like a child who is obedient; been seen and not heard.

Better still, quit trying to play the victim and learn that you are an embarrassment to even African Americans like myself and others.

Dude just go away!!

Michael   June 10th, 2009 4:12 pm ET

This is one of the things which make us a proud democratic nation -Freedom of speech. If the former vice -president can literal terrorise & torture people and go on the news netwarks to boast about how successful he has been at it, what can we make of this in a country which is fighting terror & torture?

If Rev. Wright can literally curse America to hell and gets away with it as a free American, what can we make of this in a country which curses the axis of evil to hell?

Long Live Democracy!!! Long Live Freedom of Speech!!!!

Give it Up for both!!!!!

I voted for Pres. Obama. That said-I still can't believe that Pres. Obama & Michelle attended his church & listened to his so called sermons for so many years. I'm starting to believe they heard what they wanted to hear & agreed with him or they would have left a long time ago. So sad.

Robert   June 10th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

Some with a brain tried and tried during the shame of the Democratic nomination process to say out loud that Wright was a racist. CNN and other MSM would hear nothing of it. Must have been that Obama told them Wright was 'off limits'......well, once a racist always a racist – and Wright is the top of the list of all that is wrong!!!!!!! Obama only dropped Wright when it was clear it would have a negative impact on the nomination process for Obama to win. It wasn't because he didn't agree with Wright – it was all political!

All of us know someone who is racist, there is no way around it, but does that make you racist too? Stating that Pres. Republicans had their shot and they blew it, so let's focus on the important things and not gossip such as this, and another thing, why do people give someone like Wright a chance to continue talking his nonsense, go away man, your giving us African-Americans a bad name.

The White House told Wright he can speak directly with the President at noon on January 20, 2013. In the meantime, Wright can write the President a letter that WILL be reviewed by the White House staff.

Jimmy the Greek   June 10th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

The FACT is.... this says MORE about Obama than Rev Wright.

I think everyone (with 2 brain cells) believes Wright is and has been a bigot... and included such views in his sermons.

Wright has not changed.

Obama is the one who sat for 20 years... and then when politically expedient "disowned" his pastor.

Sorry – I don't blame the fool behind the pulpit. I blame the fools sitting (voluntarily) in the pews for 20 years!

Hey that's pretty easy you only had to change one letter, that makes it easy for all the liberals not just the elites. You can change all your we hate Bush signs with a single pen stroke. Can't wait for the blame Rush for everything campaign whenever Obama makes a mistake.
Btw, what is the statute of limitations on blaming the ex-president for things happening today- another month, next year, when will this be Obama's economy, Obama's unemployment , Obama's mess, Oh yeah Obama's Pastor?

MarvoDaMighty   June 10th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

The Good Reverend has his right to his point of View, what makes it so inflammatory is that is is being heard outside the pulpit. His tirade is no different from the ones I have heard bashing Gays and Arabs, and Black, and many others all in the name of the WORD. And none of these points of view ever made it to CNN , look The religious left or Right have their own agendas, and it may or may not have any bearing on the point of view of an associate. I attended a Church, a Mosque, A synagogue and a Temple in my communities for years, and in each I have heard very shocking things it is Rhetoric and until it becomes Truly incendiary and incites folks to violence he is protected by Freedom of speech and expression.

We all know now that Racism has not color it hates just as evenly as it is irrational. The thing we need to do is filter the hate out
till it becomes weak and insubstantial.

awaitingliberalizationbyCNN   June 10th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Obama listened to this man for 20 years and claims he never heard him. Notice the dope smokers are making the moral equivalancy case saying Limbaugh is the same as Wright. Put down the bongs libs, and remember he was Obama's spiritual and moral leader for over 20 years. That is why this country is going to pot literally and figuratively.

SF Serg   June 10th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

It's incredible how racists feed off racism. The racists use Wright's racism to fuel their racism towards Obama, and round and round they go. They love the anger and the hate. Feed off it conservatives and continue to lose elections. The majority of America is above that. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!

Tom in Delaware   June 10th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Doug, New Jersey   June 10th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Isn't it just wonderful that Barak and Michelle found it to be of the upmost importaince that their young daughters hear and learn the message from Rev. Wright and the Trinity Church?

Surely a man who wants the minds of his 10 and 8 year old children to be molded by Rev. Wright is someone we can count on to be fair to all Americans and to want to unite our nation rather than divide us up in any way he can.

Rev. Wright's words are just oh so progressive and tolerant, unlike racist talk from the right like say Trent Lott's vile hate speech of "Happy Birthday".

Mike   June 10th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I like the way he said !!! Thanks Wright. You got my vote .

Does this really surprise anyone? Oh except the Blind Sheep (democrats) that are really living in an alternative world. Obama attended a racist church and only got away with it because the country is so aftraid of calling anyone out that is Black......Sorry that is the truth....And I am sure all the democrats on her will call me racist, sorry Im not at all , I love all people , but this country is so backwards right now and so worried about being Politically correct that they fail to see the biogitry in in Mr. Wrights words and deeds.

claudia   June 10th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I use to sit in a church for years just like Obama did and listen to man made speeches and racial slurrs. But I as a person didnt agree on a lot of things my Pastor taught because in my heart I knew it was not in the Bible nor was it of Gods love., Being an African American, blacks would sit for years in their church hearing this kind of trashy talk just because it is a black church and there may be no other black church recognizable around. I believe Obama like this Pastor Wright for not what he preached but because Pastor Wright treated him with respect and did love him as a son. But Pastor Wright you are not REPECTING YOUR SONS WISHES NOW! If Pastor Wright really loves Obama like he says he do. Then he must leave him alone and just be happy for him now. And he as a Pastor must keep his racial comments tohimself.

vinny   June 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

MDM_VA   June 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Rev. Wright is LOCO on this issue. As an African American Christian, I do not believe that God separates us into racial , ethnic. or socio-economic groups . In fact the bible says he is not a respector of persons.

fella from Chicago   June 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Rev. Wright of Chicago from the black community, Jew hater; ...hmmm....Louis Farrakhan of Chicago from the black community, Jew hater;....hmmm.... Barack Hussein Obama of Chicago from an inter-racial community and a want-a-be Muslim buddy; ....hmmm.... Israel , we may have a problem here.

Gary   June 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Rev Wright is a racist and an antisemite and an embarrassment to this country and to President Obama. I cannot explain why President Obama stayed in that church and I do believe it says something about President Obama's lack of character and lack of courage. Pathetic. Simply pathetic.

Marydoe   June 10th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

I know it's hard for a lot of people to believe or wrap their heads around, but there is plenty of bigotry left to go around in this country. And unfortunately, no one can shut up this guy or any of the other ignorant "thought leaders" in this country, none of whom are in any position to make real change. They just complain and cause more problems, making no progress toward compromise and fixing probems. If Obama goes back to this guy or his church, he's less of a man than I think he is.

dominican mama 4 Obama   June 10th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

It just goes to show, quite frankly, that not every brother is a brother. I was simultaneously proud and angry with Obama for not disowning this person outright. Obama did the "Christian" thing and acknowledged their relationship. But it seems to me that the "politician" here has turned out to be this Rev. I have absolutely no respect for someone like Wright who doesn't know when to shut the hell up. He is accomplishing nothing, and instead inciting divisiveness and hate for what purpose? When do the teachings of Christ kick in, I wonder?

A registered republican   June 10th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

The very sad part to me is his comment to his "baby daughter". She has no chance of being a well adjusted adult with a parent spouting the kind of stuff he does. as would be the same for any Limbaugh off spring.

Reverend Wright is wrong, an anchronistic irrelevance in the 21st Century. Americans have moved on. The pastor is now an only an old man left out and left behind.

Nonetheless, every time he opens his mouth, I feel like asking the President what he thought he was doing sitting in this man's congregation for twenty years.

Steve, Columbia SC   June 10th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Pastor Wright, let's get one thing straight. You are NOT a pastor in the Christian faith I am part of when you speak like that.

Jesus was very wise when he called "a spade a spade". You would be good to follow his example.

Irma in North Carolina   June 10th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

Well you can see that the 21 percent of the republicans had to bring this to the surface again. They tried it during the election and it didnt work. Why dont they bring up Sarahs minister who practised whitch craft.

When does the pattern become clear?   June 10th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Love you gutless Liberals who can't just add 2 plus 2 and come up with Obama was a congregant in his church for over 20 years, married Shelly and he and baptized his kids so there are TIES to him as in "I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community." Remember that direct QUOTE?

He had to disown him ONLY because more of his hateful words came out and that is the ONLY reason why he did, the ONLY reason.

So he sat in the church for 20 years and heard nothing "negative" from this guy?

Really, you people are that stupid aren't you?

Need to paint Rush, Hannity and Newt with the same Brush geniuses, post any of their quotes that are even close to what this "preacher" has said, NOTHING is even close.

2010 the people will send a message. The same people who were against Obama, with the addition of those who realize they were fooled by Obama will have their voices heard.

Those of us not looking for a handout, in addition to those of us who thought they would get one and are seeing that was never going to happen will have their voices heard…

Those of us who knew that Obama would not come through with his promises just as he did to the people of IL, in addition to those who now have their eyes open as they see this administration saying that they "over stated" and were "overly optimistic" will have their voices heard.

the list goes on and on…. weather people vote Dem. Ind. or Rep. One thing is for sure never again will a majority fall for the no substance big wishes and promises campaigning again.

2012 is too far away to make any guesses of intelligence… this Administration may come around and actually try to help people… or 2012 will be very interesting.

You will notice this post does not contain hurtful comments nor name calling... Let us please conduct ourselves with honor.

Apparently, he didn't learn the lesson that he should have when Obama left the church and gave his speech on race. It seems that Wright doesn't understand that Jews aren't in charge. If Jews were in charge, then wouldn't it stand to reason that the Arabs would be flattened against the sand they cling to? He doesn't understand.

Hannah   June 10th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

It really is interesting what you can tell about people's own faith by their comments... if you believe everything your minister says you are in a cult not a place of worship. Supposedly you are on a journey to reach God, not the preacher... they are there to give you their views, you do not even have to agree... that is not what church is about... again that is a cult!

Chipster   June 10th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Pray for Rev. Wright. Hate has filled his heart and he has become a lost lamb. He's a very bitter man. The Obamas must be very disappointed with the anger and hate that is consuming someone they thought so highly of. It's possible his age is a factor. He has preached the theology of victimization yet he has done so much for the poor and disadvantaged in the past. Don't judge him, pray for him.

Keisha   June 10th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

The dirty little secret of the Democratic Party, black racism, is alive and well. Every time an African-American gets ahead, out pops a Rev. Wright to fan the flames of racism and anti-semitism. And we wonder why Bill O'Reilly and Shawn Hannity have such a large audience?

jerryskids   June 10th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

This "brotha" just won't go away. He was thrust into the spotlight, and at the risk of losing his "son" (Obama) the candidacy continued to stay in the spotlight spewing, and reiterating his hate. The ship has left the harbor without you Rev. Go back to Chicago, and your sermons that although theoretically correct serve no other purpose than to pit people against each other. It is not the Jews, or any other ethnic group keeping Obama away from you, it is the millions upon millions of Americans that are fighting for a change in the status quo. You gotta let go of the hate and move towards the light, and the realization that one person at a time the America of the 1950's can be buried in it's shameful past never to see the light of day again.

I knew I could not raise my family up in this church. This was not the future.

I do believe that President Obama was a member of a church led by this man for twenty years and should be held accountable for very poor judgement in following this man. The national media gave him a pass on this issue as well as other personal relationships and it will soon come home to roost.

Maybe we are seeing why President Obama has chosen to come down harshly on Israel while being open to every other country. He is open to talking with Iran, Syria, the Palestinians and North Korea. However, when it comes to Israel, he won't listen to them and their point of view. Very interesting...

Wright is the worst person on this planet he made those comment long time ago, obviously the media as usual played those tapes during the campaign over and over again just to discredit former senate member Barack H. Obama. The argument made on those tapes are what took place in the United States. And this is in fact what is taking place wherever you go in the Western world against dark skin people a System of Institutionalize Racism

Joesph   June 10th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

I viewed this guy as Obama's crazy uncle. Now I'll update to Obama's crazy anti-semetic uncle.

Tony83702   June 10th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

As a member of the United Church of Christ, I am embarrassed to find myself in the same denomination with this bigoted jerk. President Obama was wise to reject him; our denomination should do likewise.

Letting it go..   June 10th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

He's wrong and the ignorance of what Wright just said is proof why Obama won't deal with him.

The man is an absolute idiot and our POTUS doesn't have time for that.

As a black woman, I don't have time for it either. He is Rush Limbaugh's half brother for sure.

Jeremiah Who?   June 10th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Oh this is rich. The more these attention seeking hounds come out, the more I'm convinced that we have the right President. Anyone who can stand up under this type of onslaught deserves a medal of honor. The fact that these characters, left-right-middle have nothing to offer – say to bad mouth folk, reveals who they truly are. The American people will not be fooled again. I wonder how much he was paid to come out of hiding? He probably backed Roland Burris and Blagojavich too.....

Joanna   June 10th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Mr Wright, I Hope Obama never speaks to you. You are a horrible friend sir!

MoM   June 10th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

What's the big deal? Rev. Wright has the right to have an opinion.

Cynthia; Bham   June 10th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

It seems as if Rev Wright is feeling neglected because he hasn't been in the news lately. Besides, the rest of us have to listen to Palin, Newt and Rush – so as I see it its equal opportunity for all.

Lisa B   June 10th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Freedom of speech. He might as well throw his 10 cents in along with Limbaugh, Hannity, Cheney etc......

Too bad the media didn't drag this guy out of the ditch a little more during the campaign, too busy chasing Elk in Alaska. Gotta love those of you who continue to support Obama and his very questionable associations. Obama as well as the Liberals have very selective memories.

bozo bama   June 10th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

is there any wonder why Barry attended his churrch all the time and only stopped when he got caught and then threw Rev. Wrong under the bus.

Priscilla California   June 10th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Rev. Wright, please crawl back in your hole. The President is working on serious problems and have no time for your psycho talk. You are important in your mind only. He will not talk to you ever again because you will lie about anything that was said. He is not your son and the only mistake he made was not kicking you to the curb sooner. He tried to give you a chance but, you wouldn't shut your ignorant mouth. Go away!

Jeff Brown   June 10th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Poor Jeremiah... time to hang up the robes and get some rest. You worked hard and long, but you need to go away.

Sue in Alabama   June 10th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Why does CNN waste this space with stuff like that?
Jeremiah Wright just the opposite end of Rush Limbaugh, and I don't think CNN should waste our time with either one of them when they are spewing hate.

More attack against jews and Israel by Rev Wright and the black community is silence

J.P.   June 10th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Well now... we've just learned the Holocaust Museum shooter is an 88 year old white supremacist from Maryland. He will be excoriated in the media for his anti-jewish beliefs.

In related news, the Reverand Wright comment ("those dirty jews won't let Obama speak to me") will be buried.

Whew! The media really dodged a bullet there. Thanks to the "wild-west, cowboy, gun-wielding" violence of a white person, they won't have to address the equally ugly anti-jewish bigotry of an "Obama-supporter-of-color." Thank goodness for white bigots, right, mainstream media?

Jake Stronger   June 10th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

That was just a phony "break" from Wright last year, as it is obvious Obama and Wright believe the same way as far as Black power and destruction of the Whiter races, with neither man exhibiting the grace of God in their lives or actions. Obama even goes so far as to say that all presidents (possible exception FDR) before him committed crimes and were stupid.

Adam Habib Plano, TX   June 10th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

As a Muslim, I am appalled by this allegations. Blaming Jews for everything is becoming a norm these days. Shame on you Mr. Wright. If POTUS wants to talk to you, you certainly just made it very hard for him to do so.

Oh Please...   June 10th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Every snake is crawling out from under their rocks, including this one. Jeremiah Wright, as an African American Christian female, I am offended that you think Barack isn't speaking to you because of politics. Why can't it be because you are a first class, attention seeking megalamaniac? I rank you with Newt, Rush, Cheney, Romney and the rest of the attention grubbing crew. What a joke you all are. Haters. All of You.

RNC = DNC = politics as usual   June 10th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

Hate speech is not OK, Rev.Wright. May God forgive you for such hate and fear mongering, when you have to answer to God someday.

But Obama sure got a lot of mileage out of that hate didn't he?
Any condemnation from the Whitehouse on this will be with a wink-wink-nod-nod.

Sue   June 10th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

I don't like Rev. Wright's attitude, but he is entitled to speak.
One thing I have noticed is that the so-called conservatives are a lot more apt to kill someone over their beliefs than any liberal is. They stockpile their guns and their anger, and then off they go-let's kill the abortion doctor performing legal procedures. Let's go kill those terrorists...oops.we killed a whole lot of innocent people? Too bad. Let's go torture some people who MIGHT have information. Let's arrest people on suspicion of terrorist activity, treat them poorly, and then be surprised when we have to release them for no evidence and they have the gall to be mad at the US. Let's start a war for which we cannot pay, keep lowering taxes, and let the Democrats worry about ending the war and then somehow paying for it. And they cannot for an instant understand just what the US might have to apologize for? How do you people call yourselves Christian with a straight face?

I have a sneaking feeling that nobody, regardless of their religion, needs to prevent Obama from talking to Wright.

yes, Obama sat in this man's church for 20 years.

Mike   June 10th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Up until now I thought most of his comments were taken out of context and manipulated by the Republicans and FOX News. However, this certaintly crossed the proverbial line. Whether or not it casts any doubt around the character of President Obama is still in question in my mind. What is becoming clear, however, is the character of Reverand Wright: anti-semite.

JP   June 10th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Richard in California   June 10th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Rev. Wright, I have no doubt that you believe yourself to be a man of God. However, clearly you are no friend much less spiritual advisor to President Obama. If you were, instead of maligning President Obama and a few of his close Jewish advisors, you would be talking to and praying for him in private. Rev. Wright, please remove the planks of racism and hatred from your own eyes before trying to remove splinters from anyone else's.

Danny J   June 10th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

20 years of going to this man for spiritual advice, and only after he became a political liability did Obama abandon him.

What could really come out of this ? A meeting between the two. A dialect has to occur between them, i mean Obama doesn't hate the Rev. They need to set the record straight on the future of their relationship. This should happen in person or by phone, so that there's no further distractions.

Chuck in CSG   June 10th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Lisa, Laughlin NV   June 10th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Doesn't that give you all a warm and fuzzy feeling all over to know that Jeremiah Wright thinks of Obama as a son!

With a father like that....well you all get the picture!!!

I wounder why it is that he feels Obama will talk with him again AFTER his political life dies out. What gives him that idea? Did Obama tell him that he had to throw Rev. Wrigjt under the bus in order to keep his own political life intact. It was all a farse!

Classy 57   June 10th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

If the press would ignore this man, he would go away. By printing and discussing what he has to say he is encouraged to say even more. I am not an Obama fan, did not vote for him, have grave concerns for this country, but using this prejudice ignorant so-called pastor for "news" does not help our country nor does it hurt Obama. It just creates talking points for the news pundits.

Jason   June 10th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Hahahahaa man it's a good thing Obama broke off all ties with this guy.

Don Comer   June 10th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Why should President Obama talk to Rev. Wright ever again? Wright could have been the #1 spiritual advisor to an American president, but seems to go out of his way to make himself repulsive and problematic, and to no good purpose. It is he who abandoned Obama, not the other way around.

Raynard Rogers   June 10th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

Keep doing what you are doing, and just like you said, when Washington has taken all the fire out of his eyes, he will then come back and want to talk with you when he's a lame duck president.

Enough   June 10th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

Jeremiah, I would think that you as a pastor would and should know that Jesus was a Jew. So ignorant.

"Them Jews (and white folks) won't let me talk to him". Don't worry Pastor, he still one of yours. You married him and baptized his children. Yep, I bet in his heart you and Ayers are never far away.

Terence   June 10th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

Rev. Wright needs to be quiet and stop spreading dissension. I think he is jealous of President Obama, and would destroy everything to get attention.

Mike in NYC   June 10th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

His controversial sermons weren't just anti-government, they were anti-White.

First Whites, now Jews. At least he's an equal opportunity offender.

At this rate it will be even sooner that he will talk to you. Like in less than 4 years.

bess   June 10th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

does this explain why Obama's haven't been back to church?

Ted   June 10th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

Oh, dear God, what is it going to take to shut this man up! In the first place, it's an ignorant and offensive statement that certainly sounds anti-Semitic even though he will certainly deny being anti-Semitic. It's inexcusable for anyone to say such hateful things, let alone when they will be taken by many to reflect badly on the President. Secondly, he's too long been a political liability for a man who is trying to make significant improvements to the lives of Americans and he needs to learn not to impede the President's success. Finally, saying something so thoughtless and stupid seems motivated solely by the man's ego and desire to be in the spotlight. Evidently, he has to learn that his ego should serve the interests of the country, not vice-versa.

Wright is managing only to prove that he's a pathetic excuse for a man of God.

Mike   June 10th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

I am a passionate Obama supporter. That being said I just don't see what he saw in this guy. He is a small minded angry bigot. And he is supposed to be a man of God? How sad.

bert   June 10th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

Wright has to stop hating the players and start hating the game! Life in America is what it is. Stop hating the people and start hating the system. Make systemic changes instead of adding to the hate quotient.

It is called tact. If I were Obama, I would stay away from this idiot too.

Kenneth   June 10th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

Sorry Reverend, but becoming the President of the United States isn't a bad choice. The bad choice was being associated with you. That was the mistake.

Obummer could have put Wright out of everyones mind with a little truthfulness....OH I forgot ....truth is not part of the socialist agenda. Lies and big debt and big government with state run businesses is the order of the day. Has Chavez made his reservation for the Lincoln bedroom. I'm sure he would get a big kick and maybe a few ideas from reading Obummers college papers, if he would let them be public. What could this Prez of yours be hiding.

Fair is Fair   June 10th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

For 20 years, Obama sat in this guy's church. He only ditched him because it was politically correct to do so. No matter what Obama says.

Jessica   June 10th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

I have far to many relatives and friends with insane political views to throw them all under the bus or into the ocean simply because we do not agree.

America needs to grow up...because it's a sad commentary on who we are as a people, when we cannot allow or accept others for being different...

I think Rev Wright, like most people his age, is stuck in his ways and sticking to his guns – for no other reason than stubborness. I don't agree with everything he's said, though I understand the emotion behind his sermons. I may be white, but I definitely understand being oppressed and feeling like no matter how hard you work, the white MAN will always have his foot on your neck.

Doc   June 10th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

I'm always mildly amused at how shallow anti-semitism is and how easily it's exposed. Rev. Wright is a classic racist, as are many of the collective pastors, preachers, evangelists. I'm reminded of that classic line from Wm. S. Burroughs "Naked Lunch".....'...all them Jews want to do is doodle a christian gal.'
They just can't win...

Debby   June 10th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

All Obama's looney friends coming out to roost. First it was Ayers and now this nut. My guess by next year Wright will be holding sermons at the White House.

Wright who? Only the GOp still thinks Wright matters. Most Americans have already moved on from this garbage, but I guess the GOP didnt get the memo.

Sher F. Eugene, Oregon   June 10th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Even though I tried frantically for several years to find a church to "fit" my daughter, she thought of herself to be an antheist... until she heard Reverend Wright's sermons and "attended" his church online! She now considers herself to be a 100% Christian, goes to church and couldn't believe she'd thought otherwise prior! That's all I care about!

When Reverend Wright isn't taken out of context with bits and pieces by the media... I understand completely what he is saying more than any other priest or pastor I've ever heard! And I was raised Catholic and attended church every single Sunday for most of my life and other churches in between!

I love that man for his truth telling!

Jon in CA   June 10th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Of COURSE Obama doesn't want to talk to Rev Wright.... there is no political advantage in doing so!

Wright was Obama's spiritual adviser, married him & michelle, baptized his daughters, inspired the book "Audacity of Hope"...... but Obama won't take his call????

LOL... just shows you how deep Obama's faith really is.

Richard Barkin   June 10th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

That he would so comment is hardly surprising. I did not and do not attribute what he says to the President. However, the fact that someone with these views held a role for so many years as a spiritual mentor cannot help create unease among those of us who are part of the minority group that this man chooses to target.

I find it hard to believe Obama was "suddenly" blindsided just LAST YEAR by this guy's bigotry, and never saw, heard or felt it before hand. Come on, you don't sit in Archie Bunker's church for 20 years and NOT know the guy's a bigot.

Those kinds of words don't just fall out of your cranial oriface without them being reeeeeeeeeeally, really close to one's heart.

But what do I know... I'm just a typical white man who doesn't share Wright and Obama's rich experiences and therefore, my conclusion is likely very wrong.

ghost   June 10th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

OK.........A bit over the top on this one Rev.

I was with right till you had to go all anti-semetic. Everything else I agree with you on. Of course Obama can't hang out with you. I don't agree with him having to go that far for his political future, nor do I agree with him doing it at all. But the other side really hates that you bring up their issues that have plagued us for some time now. Even as the president goes abraod trying to mend old ties, the other side is riduculing him. They hate the fact that their wrongs are put into the light.

Renee   June 10th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

Rev. Wright just keeps showing what a hypocrite he is. He condemns racism from the pulpit, but only if it is racism against blacks. Racism against the rest of God's children seems to be perfectly okay with him.

The Original No Incumbents 2010   June 10th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

"I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."

Seems like Rev. Wright listened more than Obama did for 20 years.

Mike   June 10th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Go away Mr. Wright, this country needs unity, not division.

Dawn in Pa   June 10th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

The jews won't let him talk to him.... Mmm

He is a radical racist'.... Mmm

I would not speak to you either....Nah...

Hey Jeremiah Wright talk to the pastor of Sarah Palin, you know the one who will protect her from people like me...A witch.... but no one on the Campagn trail did not mention that one, you betcha... Why is that? What is good for the goose is good for the gander....

Aaron   June 10th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Obama used Wright's church for social ties to the community. Obama obvioulsy thinks he's a nut if he's not talking to him anymore. And Rev Wright while I'm sure is a good man and does a lot of his community seems to also be a hateful man. Sometimes you call a space a spade. Sometime you just keep the comments to yourself. Mr Wright apparently doesn't have that switch installed.

Mich   June 10th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

It's because of people like rev.wright ,and his friends we have things like the shooting at the Mall in washington D.C.

Craig   June 10th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

This guy just can't keep his face away from a camera and a microphone.

Obama was right to dump this clown.

ConsiderThis, FL   June 10th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Rev. Wright says that he's a pastor. The Bible calls a pastor a shepherd. A shepherd does not seek to hurt or injure a sheep in any way, shape or form. In fact, the Shepherd does everything he can to protect the sheep. It looks to me that Rev. Wright is playing the "politician" role while President Obama is living the life of a Shepherd. Wright should be careful not to grieve the Holy Spirit.

Takeshi   June 10th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

50/50 split on this. He has the right to speak and preach what he wants. but yet we also alow hate groups to do the same. so we realy cant say he is unamerican.

Tell it like it is Jeremiah. No regrets! Don't bite your tongue for anyone.

Obama and Wright have the same views. This is the reasone BO is thying to destroy relations with Israel and buddy up with Palestine. They have the same ideas about Jews and their existance.

Did any bosy notice we have had our 2nd terrorist attack on US soil in the last 2 weeks. I just dont feel safe in our own country anymore. You think your prophet will do anything to keep us same on our own soil? Doubt it

Looking at President Obama's action towards Israel thus far, I don't think it will take too long before Rev. Wright and the President are old chums again.

If Wright is so intelligent like people say he should understand why his hate speech causes others to distance themselves from him. Get over it, Jeremiah.

Sean nabster   June 10th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

The Reverand Wright seems to speak before he thinks. Sometimes, it's better to keep very negative comment to yourself, rather than speak harsh about a people and cause bitter feelings.

Oh look...the hate monger is back.

Greg & Matt in Houston   June 10th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Christians have no problem showing their bigotry, they even seem proud of it. Man, "them Jews" must be almost as bad as "them Gays"....are they 2nd Class Citizens too???

Wright is very similar to Limbaugh; like opposite ends of a magnet.
Thank for CNN for promoting hate (snark on).

the true voice of chicago politics

Sam I Am   June 10th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Obviously there are nut cases on both sides of the political fence. This man is one of them. Wright doesn't have the good sense to think about what he is saying. Neither does Limbaugh. Perhaps they could save some money and both broadcast from the same studio at the same time?
They'd cancel each other out, and all we'd hear would be dead air. Perfect solution!

Its freedom of speech – for Cheney or Wright ... and I don't listen to either ....
