Yes... it is true. I must admit that I differ with the administration on both their economic and national security policies. Nor do I believe that the prior Vice President was a war criminal or wants the country to be attacked just to prove his point. I also think that only a simpleton would be more concerned with domestic terrorism than islamist terrorism. There is far greater probability of the Obama Administration and a democratic majority spending us into oblivion and lowering our childrens standard of living than domestic terrorism materializing and magically surpassing Al Quaeda as a threat.

All of these admissions ofcourse must surely mean that I secretly would like the country to be attacked just to make my point.

Former VP Cheney is getting too much attention in the media and too much time in the public discourse. All he has done is repeat what he has been saying for the past 8 years. And the Adminsitration's actions, and blatent misrepresentations, trying to justify the 2nd Iraq War, seriously damage the former VP's credibility. Saying that Cheney wants a terrorist attack, is like saying that a scientist who wants to see green house gas emission changes wants global warming to happen....no, he doesn't want that and that is exactly the point, he doesn't want it so much that he is willing to speak out if he believes we are doing something wrong. What prize do you get for saying global warming is real when the whole planet freezes? The exact same reward Cheney would get if he continues to call into question the Obama administration's actions and a terrorist attack happens...absolutely nothing.

The only reason Cheney is even still around in the media is the GOP is simply trying to salvage some form of respect within their party. When it comes to economic policy, healthcare, the wars going on, international relations, the list goes on and on they failed miserably. Cheney does want U.S. to be attacked again. His administration was in charge during the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, yet he claims the steps his government took "made us safer". They prefer to blame Clinton for Sept. 11, and take credit for the fact there hasn't been an attack since 9/11. But if an attack happened tomarrow it would be Obama's fault, according to Cheney (keep in mind, Cheney has been out of office 5 months, Sept. 11th happened 9 months after Bush took office). Long story short, if we stay safe, Cheney will take credit. If there's an attack, he'll absolve himself of responsibility and say "I told you so".

I don't blame vice-president Biden for distancing himself from Leon Panetta disgusting comments. Why hasn't President Obama done the same. At this same point in time during Bush/Cheney's first term, it was still a full three months before the attacks of 9/11. President Clinton's security team had repeatedly advised (privately, in appropriate official settings – not on television) that al Qaeda represented the single greatest threat to this country's security and ought to be their top priority. The PDB entitled "Bin Ladin determined to attack inside the U.S." had yet to be issued. Yet Bush/Cheney had "many priorities." So why would Cheney expect the current administration to have greater respect for his warnings than he did for his predecessors'?

Panetta knows better than to "walk a line" and say something so shameful in public! Dick Cheney is a patriot and no spineless, party hack can ever accuse him of not putting his country's needs over everything else! My concern is that anyone in public who makes an educated observation about the current president is bound to be attacked by DNC members and press alike if that opinion isn't absolutely glowing for this president and that pathetic!

Nothing has happened to make us any less safe than we were prior to Obama's inauguration. Very little has changed. Even Bush was saying he would close Guantanamo. Just accept the new administration and give them a chance. That is why we have elections every four years so that one person with their own set of ideas does not make decisions on everything forever. Of course Cheney wants another attack...then one of his "former" companies can "bid" for some rebuilding "contract".

3.....Information can be obtained from terrorists without torture and inflicting pain. Medical science has drugs that can be safely administered to elicit truth. Why is it necessary to Torture?
4.....Very few of the Guantanamo Detainees were arrested from inside the US. They were captured from Iraq, Afghanistan or other places. Terrorist attacks in US happen from inside the US. We need a better homeland security rather than going after terrorist all over the world. We need to prevent infiltration. What did the Bush Administration do to prevent infiltration?

If you look at what he's been saying over the past few weeks and months, his statements are mostly assumed, for instance, his allegations that the Obama administration's nation security policies, specifically the choice to close down Gitmo, is making this country less safe from terrorists. When he mentioned that he does not think anywhere in the U.S will take the Guantanamo detainees and that it would not be a good idea to house former detainees in America, especially that people that are actually convicted of terrorism, not just suspected terrorists, he was just a little wrong. If the unimprisoned populace of the U.S hate terrorists... well, why won't the people in prisons across the country also hate them? I think we all know what happens in prisons these days.

Mistake that resulted into the deaths of 4300 US Troops and 45000 US Troops Injured. In the 9/11 attacks about 2800 people died. And to remedy 9/11 we lost another 4300 lives without any success and we are still hanging in uncertainty.

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with our media and society. Pannetta makes a suggestive comment (which he shouldn't have), it gets picked up, and then everybody starts bashing Cheney about it.

CNN's continued placement of a headline suggested former Vice President Dick Cheney is "rooting" for another terrorist attack is reprehensible (we're looking at 24 hours now CNN.com editors). The CNN news outlet (if we can even still call it that) can be counted on to have one piece of anti-conservative commentary or Ticker "news" prominently displayed daily along with a puff piece about Obama or his family daily. Rarely can any investigative news reporting (Twitter wars with the host of Punk'd) or truly thought provoking commentary be found here (Cafferty anyone?). Unfortunately, both Fox News and MSNBC are equally reprehensible... No wonder people are getting their news from the blogs these days.

We have been under terrorist attack since January of 2009.

Cheney really hasn't made any comments or suggestions, this year, that would actually help protect this nation. All he said was Obama is making this country more vulnerable to a terrorist attack and cited the release of the CIA memos that were ordered by a court to be released after the government lost a lawsuit. And Cheney defended the use of torture.

If these are ideas or beliefs that you value then you really ought to move to the Middle East. Anywhere over there really, because those governments don't follow court orders, and believe in torture, actually now that I think about it, that's EXACTLY like the government Cheney represents. Enjoy.

I believe that former VP Chaney is inviting our enemies to attack us by saying we are vulnerable to attack; he's deliberately putting a tempting idea into their minds so they will make an effort in attacking the US again. 1. Bush and Cheney didn't 'keep you safe" . September 11 was nine months into their term and they ignored warnings. Whether the planning happened during Clinton's term or not, the event happened well into the Bush Term.

2. You weren't safe before 9/11 and you aren't safe now. Safety is relative – you are still more likely to die on the commute home and you get in your car everyday. The UK has been attacked, Spain has been attacked and as much as you may think Bush/Cheney stopped everything, I think you can safely assume if the terrorists want to they will hit the US. All you can hope is that the attacks will remain relatively small.

This makes more sense. The CIA is correct, no body wants another attack on the US, especially not Cheney and definitely not President Obama. DIck Cheney is saying some controversial things and even though I do not always agree with him, I do think we need to have a discussion about how safe we are and how the policies of the Obama administration affect our safety. I would rather debate the issues (memos, photos, gitmo) rather than have us attack each other. Bringing these discussion up to the public is the right thing to do and we should be happy Cheney is doing it. Why isn't anyone else talking about this?

I wouldn't think Cheney would be "rooting" for a terrorist attack either. I would guess he is helping to plan and fund a terrorist attack, to benefit his interests, at the expense of the American People. This is a "man" with no loyalty whatsoever to the United States of America. In fact, I would venture to say he is one of the most dangerous enemies our nation, and our Constitution, have ever faced. Dick Cheney should be designated an enemy combatant.

So, if we are to believe this then we must believe that the CNN reporter got the original story wrong and got everyone all unnecessarily heated up over nothing.

I agree with Panetta – and so do most other people I know, both Republicans and Democrats. Panetta should not back-pedal on this one. The Democrats usually allow the Republicans bully them into back-tracking on the truth when they tell it. Cheney absolutely wants the US to be attacked. He wants Obama to fail, and he cannot wait for both to happen!

To accuse Cheney of 'wishing' for another terrorist attack against the United States seemed a little much.

However, this does not exclude the more fanatical and less educated of the Conservative and Christian Right Fringe who would happily welcome such a tragedy; for the sad fact that their global perspective is rooted in a simpleton high school football game mentality.
