David Letterman faces a protest rally outside of his Ed Sullivan Theater despite having apologized for a self-admittedly 'coarse' joke.
David Letterman faces a protest rally outside of his Ed Sullivan Theater despite having apologized for a self-admittedly 'coarse' joke.

NEW YORK (CNN) – Despite an apology Monday night from David Letterman, a protest rally outside of Letterman's Ed Sullivan Theater in New York will still go on as planned Tuesday, according to its organizer.

Political documentarian and conservative radio talk show host, John Ziegler, tells CNN that the point of the rally is to, "Raise awareness and get some sort of accountability."

He says that Letterman's apology, "Would have been fine had it come six days ago. This apology came seven days after the fact and his first apology was completely self serving." He added, "We think our voices should still be heard."

The protest is scheduled to take place as Letterman begins taping Tuesday's program. The group is angry over a joke the talk show host told related to the family of Sarah Palin.

Ziegler could not confirm how many of the more than 2,000 people he originally indicated would be attending had canceled. The rally's page on Facebook has approximately 200 confirmed guests. 1,383 have declined the invitation since the Letterman apology.

A significant number of the people who are attending list their residence as out of state.

Ziegler, who produced "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin was Targeted" is also promoting his upcoming film, "Blocking the Path to 9/11."

What an incredible waste of time. Palin and her minions have just lost their cause.

Colin   June 16th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Honestly people, drop it. Palin and her 18 year old are obvioulsy douchbags. Anything for attention is good with them. They should just stay in Alaska and continue hunting by helicopter, because THAT is very fair as well. Todd P, go race a snowmobile or dog or whatever the hell you do, Sarah, just go away and take the messes that you bore with you.

Kat   June 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Wow. If she really decides to run for President in 2012, she is going to be the biggest embarassment this country ever had.

Sara, if you're reading this right now, maybe you should start making a list of things that are going to be brought up during the 2012 election and start thinking of how you're going to provide an answer to the American people (including the people in Northern Virginia) that explains your current outrageous behavior. It really will be an ambush on your family and your career. Think of all the wonderful joe the plumber women in Alaska who had to pay for their own rape kits. It's going to be great.

Marie   June 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Protest! Protest our soldiers going to war, protest our gas prices, protest the oil companies making billions while so many americans are losing homes, jobs and what little they have managed to save. To protest a joke is a joke. I am the mother of two daughters. I knew the joke was directed to Bristol but was it Letterman who paraded his teenage uwed knocked up daugther in front of the world – Get over it! Palin started it when she did that. You want to be in the publics eye than get a tough skin and turn your back – Protest that

Jeff   June 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Geez... Get a life people. Everyone has a gaff once in awhile and I suspect that if we turned the microscope on those protesting, we'd find them lacking too... Letterman is just so visible that he makes a wonderful target....

Sure, the joke wasn't funny, but I doubt it was malicious either...

Seems to me that people have gotten very thin skins these days and are willing to protest anything at the drop of a hat... So boring...

some gurl   June 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Dont any of these people have to go to work or take care of their family???

Palin needs to apologize for calling Mr.Obama a terrorist and paling around with them. She sure does dish out the insults, but look what happens when one comes her way.
UGH move on lady and go away!!

Ed   June 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Are these the same idiots that protested and had Whoopy Goldberg's show canceled when she was making jokes on how George Bush was an idiot and was screwing up the country?

Longhorn#1   June 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

I've read most of the comments on this site. The ones making them are obvious the same ones who turned out in mass to vote OBAMA into office. I too am a Democrat but if this is the kind of acceptance attitude you morons have Lord help us with one in the Office. I wonder what the acceptance would hav e been if Letterman made the same remark about Michelle and his children. YOU'RE ALL NOTHING BUT, RAPIST AND SEXUAL PERVERTS IF YOU ACCEPT THIS CRAP.

MC   June 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

So is Palin mad because folks may now think that BOTH her teenage daughters were impregnated? Or is it that she discovered on her trip to NYC that ARod did not father Bristol's child? Or perhaps ARod won't admit to fathering the child (give him time . . . as we saw with the steroids, he eventually tells the truth)? Maybe she's actually mad at herself because she finally realized that parading a pregnant, teenage daughter in front of the world isn't "spot-on" parenting.

Deanna from California   June 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Get over it, we have more important issues, for instance....Health Care, Recession, etc., We need to be more proactive on issues, instead of name calling!

dominator   June 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Isn't the fact that they are planning on protesting a "joke", a joke in itself? Idiots! We have people that are going through very challenging times, financially, emotionally and physically. Here a cause for you morons looking for publicity, get together and give these people support!

Anonymous   June 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

The joke was not one of Daves" best but in this day and age everyone wants blood. Dave apologized –it is too bad that the thousands of other comics who insult others and their jokes are completely off the wall-the rap artist who live by insulting others–yes Dave made a bad joke-get over it.

Willy Brown   June 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Letterman's apology was a week late. He did not mean it. Fire the bum!

Madagascar9   June 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

tiredother- I so agree. Can't we ever get away from her!

martraco   June 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Letterman's remarks were disgusting, uncalled for, and totally out of line, and he certainly ought to apologize...to A-Rod.

Ron   June 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

The way that Palin uses her family to further her political goals makes me nauseous. If your gonna put your children on the front line they are going to be hit. Then she has the audacity to cry foul when it happens?!?! What a load of crap.

Another point   June 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

This isn't about wether or not whoever likes or dislikes Palin, people. Stop trying to mask the true issue. It's about promotion of child abuse for a laugh. He needs to go..

Randy   June 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Give me a break. This whole flap is nothing more than Sarah Palin's continuing effort to keep her name out there for 2012.

cindy   June 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Just like Republicans that can never take a joke. So tired of this. Get over it Republicans.

Joan   June 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Dave...I love you! Don't give that woman a second thought. She is a pitiful, pitiful person. This is the only attention she can get and she will certainly take any kind. The best thing you can do is to ignore her and move on. She is a control freak...don't get caught in her web! Don't ever speak of her again...she thrives on it.

ruthanne   June 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Dave, fortheloveofgawd, STOP with the apologizing already!!! SP just wants to keep her name in the news any way she can! Isn't it about time for SOMEONE to just stand up to these Republican morons and say ENOUGH! IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY JOKES, TURN OFF YOUR TV!

SN in MN   June 16th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

CNN's audience seems to be made up mostly of creeps and morons.

Michael Stout   June 16th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

The people who worship GOP extremists like Palin don't watch Letterman anyway. I say, let them protest. Get over it. Find something more important to be upset about. Like how Bush and Cheney sent all those fine American men and women to Iraq.

Matt the Baker   June 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

Sure wish they'd focus on accountability from Ziegler, Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter and the like. Let's shut those idiots down.

Jack   June 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

It was a joke. Kind of like Palin's run at the VP....a joke. Dave's was funnier!

Peter   June 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

The joke was meant to be towards Bristol Palin...She wasn't at the game....A mistake by Letterman, he apologized....Let's move on, its obvious that Letterman has more support than Palin.

roseanna   June 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

There are several wars going on, people are unemployed, the economy is horrible, gun violence is at an all time high etc. etc. Do you get my point!!!! It was a joke . Move on!!! David appoligized. It is the only way Sara can keep her name out there.

Billy Jack   June 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

The misconception here is that this was a Palin joke. It was an A-
Rod joke, not a Palin joke. that should clear everything up.

BJs   June 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

Wow. The guy apologized and Palin accepted it. (or did she?). Give it up folks. Waste of time.

Leila Torres Drewes   June 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

It astounds me how level headed reasoning has escaped all!
As a mother, I completely understand the instinct to protect your child.
It was a joke, and a crude joke at that. However, Mr. Letterman never implied rape.

The apology may have been "late", after all it is the "Late Night with David Letterman", no pun intended. And has been perceived as self serving. Sarah Palins focus to keep this alive and in the media is also self serving. Does she not have a state to run?

Please, please, I ask the media to limit her diatribe. We have IRAN, North Korea, Unemployment,..........can focus be on what matters.

What a joke!   June 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Nalini,

Please tell me you're kidding!

"YOUR STUPID"- do you mean "you're"

"WAS ALOS A HIGH SCHOLL DROPOUT-" looks like so are you!

babs   June 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

this woman tossed her family into the public eye and told everyone who would listen how proud she was that her school age daughter was pregnant by, what the Palin's called, that "trailer trash drop out".

Protest all you want to. The Palins are still crazy.

Florida Joe   June 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

And Letterman ratings keep going up, up, up.

Sarah, go home and care for your family......You haven't done a very good job thus far............Thank GOD this woman is not the VP........Of course she did wonder what a VP does all day......fight with talk show hosts?...RIGHT What a piece of work she is

GO AWAY

Rich   June 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Now it's overblown...the joke was in poor taste (not nearly as tasteless as some other comedians) and DL apologized. Move on!

bill   June 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

where was the protest when this witch palen accused president obama.of palying around with TERRIOST.bad joke get over it he is a commedian. this witch from frozen north deserves every thing she gets.but leave her children out. SHE DIDNT

David from Southern Illinois   June 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Who cares about Zeigler, Palin, or or this self serving protest! I'll be watching Letterman.

Will 18E   June 16th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

One of Palin's daughter has a bastard.
It was clear, that the bad joke was aimed at that other daughter, and not the minor child.
second, what about an apology to the ball player, the joke suggested he was a criminal and sex offender.

MikeH   June 16th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

Letterman – 1

Republican nutjobs – 0

Nelson Colorado Springs Co.   June 16th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

This back and forth is one of the stupided thing. Mr Letterman has apologize. John Ziegler need to move on, a protest rally outside of Letterman's Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, stupid is what stupit does

Durian   June 16th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

How lucky can you be Letterman. If Palin is color. You will be racist and sexist and out of a job.

Claudia in Houson   June 16th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

Join the U.S. Military or the Peace Corp where your services are needed instead of protesting a joke. I'm sure our men and women in the military would appreciate your help.

Refiblicans can't even recognize their own stupidity   June 16th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

GOP Refiblicans can't have ot both ways; scrutiny of social values towards others and social values dissaray amongst their own ranks. It's exremely laughable with the irony of hypocrisy. To even consider demonstrations of peoples laughs over the premise within that subject make it even more laughable................. : o LOL

minniehaha   June 16th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

The reason why many invitees can't attend the protest is because they're in Tehran for the pro-Ahmadinejad rally.

Paul   June 16th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

I consider myself a Conservative, but for god sake, let it go already!

Jean   June 16th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

Do you know that if Gov. Palin wants she can sue Letterman and CBS and win big?

mark   June 16th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

Letterman should insult and make fun of the obama girls if this is fair game...

Duke   June 16th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

Welcome to public life outside the bubble that is Alaska....get back to work for your state, Ms. Palin.

Anni   June 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Sarah Palin joke – outrage. Michelle Obama a gorilla – nothing. A picture of all the Presidents in color except our current President – nothing.

The Republicans can dish it out but cannot take it. When will they realize that people are tired of them having the emotional maturity of someone in junior high school.

em   June 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

I'm actually disappointed that Dave caved in and apologize to Gov Twitterus. . .
Must have been his corporate GOP bosses behind that....

Jan of CT   June 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

This is so very ridiculous! Did anyone hear the comment made by the moron in S.C. about Michelle Obama's relatives being gorillas???? Here is the former head of the SC republican party making hateful racist remarks and it's a tiny caption on a photo. A LATENIGHT comedian makes a joke and the right goes nuts? I hate it when the media gives them a forum.

J.J.   June 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

complaining over 7 days vs 6 days? Is Letterman Jewish? I should complain that you did not take into account the sabbath day!

Ronnie - Dallas   June 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

It was an inappropriate joke and Mr. Letterman obviously regrets what he's said and has apologized. There are ALOT of more important things to worry about in the world than this! Let's move on folks...

Greg   June 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

This is Zeigler, what do you think he's protesting? What Letterman said about Women or Palin? Zeigler is one of the most vile paranoid extreme right wing nuts this country has.

J Morgan   June 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

I always thought Palin was a nut job.....now I know for sure

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   June 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Here we go again!

Only in America!

Rallies and marches and protests over trivia when our country is in one heck of a mess with far more serious things!

Love it!

Kaitlin   June 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

A bad joke – Oh no! I need to protest!

Oh, puh-lease. Time to MOVE ON. He wasn't serious. It was a joke. Big deal.

Let's all protest over a lame joke because we have nothing better to do, no jobs to be at, no other important things to worry about. Right...

GET OVER IT.

Dameun   June 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Sharper:

Sarah humiliates her entire family everytime she goes out in public and speaks. Imagine if she were your mom...my god, I'd wear a bag.

Malcolm   June 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Palin is milking it. She is trying to get some attention and needs to do us all of us a favor and get out of politics. She is way over her head.

joe m   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

letterman brought this upon himself. not from having told the joke to begin with, but by failing to provide a sincere apology when all the flap followed. this would have probably died and gone away if he only actually apologized when all thew negative attention started. if he were hoping that this would help his ratings, he is finding that not the case.

if someone deemed to be a conservative had made this comment about a democrat one can be sure that the protest would have started the next day.

Helen   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

USA needs 1) end to sexist jokes like this 2) throw out the communist kenyan usurper in the white house 3) President Sarah Palin

mike   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Worst things have been said. Wasn't it Palin who said a sitting senator
was paling around with terrorist.

Where were these people, Lenos joke was just as bad!

It's amazing how the whole world stops, when what was say is directed at a white child

Buzz   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Loved the Letterman joke and loved the Michelle Obama gorilla joke......all in fun right

Mike S., New Orleans   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I guess the right wing neocon nutjobs don't have anything better to do these days except hit the streets for Sarah Palin's publicity stunts.
I'd rather side with a comedian who told a bad joke than a D-list political hack who singledandedly sunk the Republican election of 2008.

Umm...ok, right   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

This is also to distract us from the fact that two MAJOR issues are confronting us right now.........................HEALTHCARE REFORM and the Employee Free Choice Act! The GOP is working very hard to destroy them both!

mark   June 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

For the love of God give this a rest!

Letterman apologized; Palin accepted....end of story.

This so-called demonstration appears to be nothing but a publicity stunt created by some right-wing radio talk show host out of L A trying to drum up support for his show that, I'm pretty certain, most of America have never heard.

There is too much d-baggery on the part of these conservatives. Why don't you try acting like a governor Mrs. Palin and go to work instead of making a big deal about this. You're daughter messed up, now take responsibility.

beachgirl   June 16th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

OH MY GOD!!!!

Let me think...............uuuhhh these protesters by any chance are born against or republicans or morons?

ALL OF THE ABOVE.

Letterman is an entertainment Palin! get it? he has apologized several times, get it?

What a bunch of nonsense people are these so called protesters. Obviously they are unemployed republicans with nothins else to do.

JDinAustin   June 16th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

The protest is more self serving that the apology. Ziegler and anyone who shows up a week late to protest a tempest in a teapot are the ones who should be ashamed.

RC   June 16th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

What's funny is that all of you think Letterman, Palin and such even read your obscene comments on here. All of you need a life. Get out from behind our computer and smell the roses you fools.

25 year old independent   June 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Pointless!!!!!!!!!! Find some jobs people! This is between Palin and Letterman and they even apologized to one another so grow up and get over it already

Peter   June 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

once again, political correctness ruins our sense of humor

Dave   June 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

A protest rally over a night show host's admittedly "flawed" and unfunny joke? What's the point? Isn't late night television sterile enough?

Dave in Houston   June 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Conservatives are so lame when they try to amass in protest.

They usually send out their lone crazies to do their work for them like von Brunn, Roeder and McVeigh.

Kay   June 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

This is the most attention Sarah has received since the elections. Of course she would want to milk this as much as she can. David Leterman was absolutely sincere in his apology, all these stupid protesters need to suck it up and shut up.

Tomm in Los Angeles   June 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Hey Dave,

These protests should result in a boost to your ratings. Why not slam Palin again?

Scully   June 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

If Letterman committed suicide, Palin would still be complaining.

Expat American   June 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

I hope that they play 'My Heart Will Go On' at the protest while paying homage to the victimized Queen of the red sweatshirt slack jaws....Put Lee Greenwood on that play list too.

Palin/Octomom 2012

Dee Deptford, NJ   June 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

I think it is time to move on to more important things. Palin should go back to when she was running as the vice president and look at some of the things that were being said at that time about her daughter from Conan, Leno and SNL. She didn't think anything of those comments. And even appeared on SNL.

What Letterman said was wrong. But I think Palin is keeping it going only to get her 15 minutes of fame again. STAY IN ALASKA!!!! I'm tired of seeing your face.

Steve   June 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

The joke was in poor taste. Especially given how premeditated it was... leave the kids out of it.

Letterman knowingly doused himself in gasoline. His error in which daughter attended was merely the match. Lesson...don't douse yourself in gasoline unless you are REALLY REALLY sure there are no lit matches around.

But he apologized. It's over. We need to move on. I am a conservative that does not wish to be cast in with the extremists. We need perspective here. It happened, he apologized, we move on.

Marie MD   June 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

OMG! And this is the woman who could have been one heartbeat away from becoming our President?

Dan Holiday   June 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

I love it when liberals start acting like conservatives. How is that, you ask? Well, if this happened last year, and to Michelle Obama instead, they would be on here asking for blood. Now they just dismiss it as nothing and ask why these protesters are not out there working or finding hobbies...funny...that is what we had been thinking for the last eight years you whiners were out there protesting everything and nothing...lol. How rich.

jolly john   June 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

Sooooooooo........protesting a comedian unlike the people in Iran who are protesting for something important. What a frivolous waste of time, the guy said sorry, so let it go.America has grown so petty lately,it makes me sad.

ENOUGH!!!!! Leave the guy who makes me relax after a hard days work alone.

Letterman wanted press coverage and so did Palin - they both got it - and they both over did it

The comparisons of Dave to Rush are also laughable , you folks must have learned this from Rachel and Keith on that socialist network

This makes Sara look whiney and weak if she cannot shake off a joke by a late night host. Imagine how she would react to Putin or Little Kim.

Keep up the good work, it looks like Obama will win the next election!

I would be curious to see the reaction on this board and of the media if Letterman had made the joke about either of the Obama daughters. Or if Letterman would have even considered such a joke. The issue should not be based on any person's political association. Most comments on this board seem politically motivated. Let's bash someone politically. The point is not political. It was a shameful, humorless, tasteless joke, apology notwithstanding.

Geez, what is with all the comments from Palin lovers who think that Progressives are non-Christian and jobless?

Don't they realize the FACTS - that the vast majority of Progressives are Christian, and earn higher incomes on average than Neoconservatives?

Also, that Progressives love the Constitution of the United States of America, unlike the anti-American Neoconservatives, who wish for our government to be a Theocracy, more like Iran or Afghanistan?

Diane Dagenais Turbide   June 16th, 2009 1:10 pm ET

There's freedom of speech

There's freedom to think, criticize

But each freedom has its limit of conscious from both sides.

There is differenlt level of what is accepted in society in experiencing our freedom of speech and our freedom to criticize and demand specific action such as firing someone. In between, there is what we call commen sense of respect especially when one's apologize...it is called having a conscious. People asking for any firing have to question their conscious as well. Ironically, there are white supremacist websites where no one is brought to justice because they have the freedom of speech...with no limits and no responsibilities and they are not asked to change!

Kebler   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

Why are people comparing this to the comment Imus made? Imus made a painfully obvious racist remark! They are two different types of comments...

Peter - Atlanta   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

I'm inclined to see the humor in the situation. Dave told a bad joke and he finally apologized. Sarah is a bad joke for which McCain has yet to apologize.

If John hadn't made his mistake, David would have targeted someone else.

Rich in FL   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

Enough already. Letterman gave an on air apology; it was accepted by Palin. End of story. This guy Ziegler is a publicity hound, acting like a vulture over a dead issue.

dominican mama 4 Obama   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

You guys DO realize that your Governor Palin does'nt even know that the CONSTITUTION gurantees your FREEDOM OF SPEECH NOT THE MILITARY.

If it is possible to be a moronic idiot, she is it.

NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT = SARAH PALIN

Fred L. Fraud   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

Ziegler – what you are now doing is self-serving.

John H   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

I'm switching default on my computer to MSNBC from CNN because all CNN does these days is run non news on Sarah Palin. What is it with Palin and CNN? NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR ANYTHING MORE FOR OR ABOUT PALIN !!! For God's sake, CNN, get al new life and drop Palin from your daily news briefs!!

Anita-Phoenix   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

Thank God Palin didn't get the VP. If Ahmadinajad told her to kiss his brown ass then what would she whine to the American public about?

This woman needs to take her whining voice back to Alaska, quit making the taxpayers pay for her "family vacations" under the ruse of Republicanhood and start being a mother by talking and spending time with her children so they don't turn to men to give them the affection and attention that is obviously lacking as mama tries to remain in the public spotlight.

God help us if this woman thinks she is considering any type of candidateship in 2012. I think I will move to Canada or Mexico if that happens.

Glenn Beck   June 16th, 2009 1:09 pm ET

The other point is – as you can see, the NeoCon Rightwing Extremists posting, they obviously haven't even seen the "bit" – they're using their "talking points of hate" that Hannity and Fox uses DAILY. The moronic rightwing will be this country's downfall. God help us all.

Where's Johnny?   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Letterman's ratings are better now that O'Brien is over Late Night. That's not because of Letterman, it's because O'Brien is more not funny than Letterman. And that's no joke.

Nicholas   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

I have less respect now for David Letterman than ever. He should have stuck to his guns. It was a joke and nothing more. I guess old Pittbull lipstick thinks only she has the right to say what she wants. She and her entire white trash family need to go away and go back to the trailor park

BusyMom   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Palin continues to show her complete lack of saavy. Picking public fights with your grandson's father and with late night comedians who make tasteless jokes about public figures on a nightly basis shows a lack of maturity and frankly a lack of intelligence regarding how to handle yourself in public. These protesters are simply right wing extremist nutjobs. To protest over a joke, especially when it has already been apologized for, is an incredibly stupid waste of time. I hope Letterman's ratings skyrocket. I for one will tune in even though I usually watch Conan.

Dennis   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Where were the protests when Palin made all those demeaning, racist and bigoted statements and jokes while she was attempting to run for vice-president?

Dameun   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Those poor Iranians are suffering due to the idiot neocons and their agenda. and we have to deal with an idiot beauty queen trying to steal the headlines.

Brad   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

John Ziegler is a desperate nobody who tries to make a name for himself by smearing bigname showbiz people. He has appeared on reality "dating" shows and is just some hack trying to do anything to put himself into the spotlight himself.

Journalists shouldn't give this fool any press time what so ever.

John Ziegler is a phony fraud.

TheFabOne   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Boy, the fake outrage from the Palin group is hilarious!!!

Heath   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

Here's an idea: how about these champion time-wasters go out and find jobs instead of participating in this idiocy?

Teena in Denver   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

I wouldn't feel so bad about this rally if the repubs were as irrate about the remark posted by SC ex-state senator regarding an escaped gorilla being the forebearer of our first lady Michelle Obama. But, I have seen NOTHING by Rush or O'Reilly expressing outrage about this disparaging remark.

I think this is a ploy to keep the alaska governor's name in the press!

Rick W   June 16th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

They should protest Palin for continuing to beat this dead horse.
She brought up the name of her 14 year old and suggested
not being able to truat her on Lettermans show.
He apologized at least twice.but all she wants is to be in the
news, she could care less about her daughters,

Dustin   June 16th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

PS I hope Palin runs in 2012... I miss Tina Fey....

lovinthiscountry   June 16th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

ENOUGHT ALREADY. Media...stop with the coverage already. It was a joke...be it a bad one...Sarah's had her chance to whine...Letterman has apologized...let it go!

Don Imus appolgy did not seem to work. Let's compare the viewers that heard Letterman vs Imus. Fire Letterman the same. Were is Sharpton and Jackson??

therealmarie   June 16th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

Letterman is a Stand Up Guy and has done more than I would have done to make things right. Palin is using this for her political agenda and nothing more. MSM will you get over this fraud of a human being alreadly.

tiredofher   June 16th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

Can we EVER get away from this woman! I am SO tired of seeing her stupid "animal caught in headlights" face. Letterman should be protested for even mentioning her.

is there nothing else for people to protest about? seriously – the joke was in bad taste, letterman apologized, move on. ziegler is obviously desperate for some attention...

GIMME ME A BREAK, IF ANYTHING, YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE NO SAY SO, YOU ALL ARE A DISGRACE.

Dustin   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

What a bunch of hypocrits. The right wing nutjob Palin who wants abstinence only education can't take the heat when her family is under public scrutiny for failing to adhere to her own teachings.

Who cares which kid it was. The point that was being made through his joke (HE'S A COMEDIAN THEY'RE ALL CRASS JOKES) was that one of Palin's daughters has set the trend to be knocked up and unwed (contary to her ultra conservative preachings).

Jim   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

How many Sarah Palin jokes does it take to get Fox and Rightwing Extremists something to shout about? Answer: Just one – Sarah Palin – the biggest joke of the past two years. Please, add your own Sarah Palin jokes...Rightwing Extremists are the new American Terrorists. David Letterman owes NO ONE an apology. Not even pre-adolecent baby mama Bristol. Don't preach morals NeoCons and exhibit hypocracy.

You have a South Carolina Govenor calling Mrs. Obama a "gorilla" – where is your feigned outrage? Thought so. NeoCons are as crazy as the NeoNazi's they come from.

Robert, Houston, TX   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

aren't these problems better served by teaching teenagers about practicing safe sex and about contraceptives.....

palin and the far right sure got they're priorities straight.

Jefe   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Hey Lindy, thank you for the remark trying to offend those people who don't stay in bed as long as you do. Many of us taxpayers (whom you would likely label 'libs'), pay FAR MORE in taxes than I would bet you do, and manage to do it without sleeping 10 hours a day. If your job takes so much out of you that you can't stay up to watch the late show if you wanted to, its much more likely that us taxpayers are supporting you.

Bill Hartman   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Sarah Palin the loose lipped governor should also be apologizing to the American Citizenry and to our President for all of her caustic references last October. She used evil words like treason, terrorist and many other derogatory references challenging Obama's faith and even his citizenry. She should be the one that needs to say she is sorry to Me and You and Millions of others who stand for decency and rationality, whether we voted for President Obama or McCain.

Ms. Palin needs to quit playing Governor and get better control over her many children, so that no one else starts having children before they graduate high school.

Mary   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Sarah Palin has learned the cardinal rule of politicians: there is no such thing as bad publicity. As long as she's in the news it's a good day for her. How about the media stops making Sarah Palin news?

Bryan   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Palin has asked for all that happens to her and her family. She has used her family for publicity and with her relentless prancing all over the US trying to be seen what does she expect. She is just as much at fault for what happens to her as are the joke tellers and media. The celebrity status has gone to her head and now she can't deal with the consequences. What celebrity hasn't been devoured by comedians, talk shows or the media. She gets what she asks for. If she'd quit prancing around the nation doing her miss america wave and actually deal with the problems in her home state, maybe she'd get a litte more respect. Seriously, recently she was dealing with some issues in New York was it? Last time I checked, New York already had a governor.

anne   June 16th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Sarah please get out of the media, we are tire of seeing you.....
Yes the joke was in bad taste, but it appears SP is using this for political attraction. Poor Sarah..stop it already

jared   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

how many celebrities and politicians does lettermen talk about on a daily basis so what get over it it was a joke!

catlyn   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

will these conservatives ever just PLEASE shut up already.

FAYE, NV   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

This is crazy of all the jokes that been a Sara and her family now all of sudden its a horrific thing that was done. Sara should have been trying to clear up things that was said during the election.

Such as Bristol was/is the mother of Trig and she allowed them to live together in her home, oh, and how she used her baby for personal gain, talking about Trig with down syndrome. etc so many things she should be addressing like let us see Trig's birth certificate. Why charge the tax payer money to stay at your own home, and expensive travel for the children. etc.

Sara let it go please.

donttreadonme   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Liberal dems like David Letterman, Bill Maher, Chris Mathews, Keith Olbermann, Joy Baher, Rachel Maddow, the entire staff at MSNBC and NYTs spit out a constant hatred of everything non-liberal. They create so much hate.

Now that Bush is gone they are desperate to find a new main target because without a villain to attack they have no shows.

Bob of Lompoc   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

OK, someone in the Republican Partry provide me with evidence that Letterman is a Democrat, or even a Liberal, therefore guilty of trashing The Right. This is all based on assumption.

Ziegler is a long time, well known Republican Talking Head, running errands for Boss Limbaugh in this case.

What does it say about The Republican Party, when THIS is the issue, one a long string of failed issues, that they hope they can catch on to, and stop their sink to the bottom. Can you imagine in 2010, or 2012, anyone voting based on THIS issue ? The Republicans just don't get it. Soon they will switch back to "Illegal Immigration" as an issue. Then they will wonder why 65% of Hispanics vote against them in 2010 and 2012. The earth has moved under them. All political demographics has changed. The end is near for them. The Libertarians are going to be the Second Party. Then, a little while later, "The Party Of Lincoln" will cease to exist. Ole Abe must be very disturbed. I am. I was born and raised, on Lincoln Avenue, in his Home Congressional District, and site of his burial, Springfield, IL. What began in 1856 in Ripon, WI, at their first organized Convention, when they pledged to Free The Slaves and Save The Union, is coming to an end.

Erik in Iowa City   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

CNN, what self-important crazy people do with their lives is not news.

Mike Dallas   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Imus statements were about a physical characteristic of being black, the texture of the women's hair. The women have no control over that situation.

Bristol on the other hand was "knocked up" and could have easily prevented that situation by keeping her legs closed.

After all, that would be the definition of "abstinence" which she so hypocritically professes today to other young unmarried teen girls!

Mary Ann Watt   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Give it a break and go back to reporting the real news.

Raul   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Repulican'ts..... can't take a joke, but they have no problem hating...

Get Over It   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

It was just a joke...tasteless...yes...and David Letterman apologized, even though in my humble opinion he did NOT owe Palin anything. End of story. Palin needs to GET OVER IT...she's a nobody and needs to get back to her igloo!!!

Some guy in MN   June 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

Letterman is comedian. He tells jokes. My thoughts are that he should just say, "It was a bad joke. Now get the hell out of here!"
Enough is enough.

One bad joke over a few decades doesn't in any way shape or form create even a smidgen of a reason for people to haul their butts across the country, state, city or street for a protest about a joke a guy told.

In my opinion the self serving person who's a bit to late is Ziegler. He's the one who wants to drag this out for the sole self serving purpose of promoting his movie.

Dave, you're doing just fine. And hey, those people don't watch your show anyway so who really cares what they think.

Christopher   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

"MSNBC's David Shuster was suspended for saying Hillary Clinton was 'pimping Chelsea Clinton' during the 2008 Democratic primaries. Apparently MSNBC has more accountability."

Letterman is an entertainer, not a reporter. He makes jokes. Jokes have a right to be crass by virtue of being jokes. Palin's pulling a Jerry Springer, plain and simple. This "feud" needs to stop getting publicity.

New Day   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

Well, of course the protest will continue. They already ordered the tea bags... :D

Mark   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

Ziegler says that Letterman's apology was self serving. This rally is no more than a publicity stunt...hypocrite.

Jefe   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

Wow, they're really hoping for a huge backlash, and a PR nightmare for Palin. Can these people cry any harder?

Rob   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

If these comments that Letterman made were made against Sasha or Malia every single one of you would be jumping up and down.

1. It would be racist
2. how dare he say such things about women.

Well where was Michelle or Barack on this one. Weren't they the ones who said that politicians kids should be left out of the media?
Michelle as a mother of 2 daughters should be outraged with Letterman. It is amazing that people who were so against Palin becuase they thought she was bringing women back to the stone ages are not offended by Lettermans remarks. Hyprocrites.

Republicans Suck   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

When will Palin apologize for the joke of campaign she was a part of. We could have won if she would have said no to McCain or at least kept her mouth shut about palling around with terrorist.

S Callahan   June 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

This is a moran act. David Letterman is a good man..who made a visual/verbal mistake..and APOLOGIZED several times which I believe was sincere and not self serving. No one is immune from mistakes. He apologized...leave the guy alone. You are tottally wrong Sarah to use Mr. Letterman to promote your agenda..this will surely backfire. Read the Bible..you missed something along the way!

Hey liberals, what would you have done if your underage daughter is humiliated in public like this? Let me guess, oh you would have demanded fiercely that the jerk to be fired forever!

Remember Don Imus? What had you done to him? Now you bring "Christianity" stuff for forgiveness. Do you think you can always stomp on Christians? Do you really think that Christians are fools? Do you really think that this country was founded by non-Christians like you?

Come on!

CHRIS   June 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

If all you liberals want Governor Palin out of the news, then maybe all your talking heads, like Letterman and CNN, should stop talking about her.

If Governor Palin is so unnewsworthy, why do they, and all of you here, keep talking about her.

Alan   June 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

So, now some guy who wants to promote his book about poor Sarah's mistreatment by the media is organizing a rally against Letterman. AND CNN IS BITING? Give me a break . . .

Jonathan   June 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

These Palin supporting morons have nothing better to do with their lives.
Pathetic.

AndyF   June 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I am an independant and have been for the 55 years of my life. I am tired of hearing people label others as conservative or liberal – as though we can all be simply labeled and dropped into a barrel.

The fact is that Letterman's joke was off-color and had he thought about it, he could have reworded a bit to get the same laugh without offending Palin's daughter – not Palin – her daughter!

But Palin is an airheaded ditz who stands before a convention wanting to have a role managing the country when she cannot even manage her own family. I dont care what your political stripes are, when I hire employees I do it based on their past acheivements. Sarah Palin's inability to manage her own daughter (Bristol) showed me clearly this is NOT a person I want managing my country.

Letterman? Funny man who missed the mark on a joke.
Palin? Airhead who couldnt manage a wet paper bag let alone a country.

Lindy   June 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

Looks like the Letterman fan club has found a forum to blog. And it appears that his fans obviously stay up to watch him. I am asleep at the time he is on from working all day. Apparently his fans don't work and us taxpayers are having to support them.

larrywi   June 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I think Palin was rather gracious in accepting his apology. I personnaly must not get the "joke" Let's put a differant spin on it. I'm David Letterman, the other night while Michelle Obama was attending the Yankes baseball game, sometime during the 7th inning Alex Rodriguez knocked up her daughter, Haa. Haa,, Funny, Funny, right? I fail to see the humor there as well.

Sandra   June 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I don't like the joke, but SNL did an incest joke about Palin in the campaign and Leno did almost the same joke as Dave.

Difference? Palin now wants to raise her profile again in the lower 48.

Where were the protests with these other comedians? Palin went on SNL a few weeks AFTER they made the incest joke.

katiec   June 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

Don't you realize by now CNN has a love affair with Palin?
They shove this woman (being nice) down our throats constantly,
regardless of how much we protest.

dominican mama 4 Obama   June 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

This thing has taken on a life of it's own. It is absolutely uncanny. There are NO PARTS OF THIS HORSE LEFT TO BEAT people!!!!!

Joe Williams   June 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

I hope that David Letterman's ratings are going through the roof. This is the most ridiculous story ever. It was a great joke. Palin needs to get over it and get out of the lime light for good. She is a disgrace to the Republican party.

Mike C. from Canada   June 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

Both Palin and Ziegler appear to have self-serving agendas, which is okay as long as it's not under the guise of righteous indignation. Maybe their 15 minutes limelight are quickly dwindling. I say: move on, people!

Plus, everyone knows A-Rod did not impregnate Palin's daughter. It was Chuck Norris, who walked by during the SIXTH inning, causing her daughter to swoon...

Mr Manhattan   June 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

Hey ENOUGH! Imus's remark was pure racist, he got off easy with just an apology. Lettermans joke was about an 18 year old girl who already had been knocked up. Everyone knows daughter Bristol & Alex Rodriguez were the target of the joke because of Alex Rodriguez"s recent knocking up of some woman and Bristol Palin"s recently getting knocked up by her boyfriend. The Palins are suggesting the joke was about child abuse and the staturtory rape of their 14 year old so they can get some free publicity. Now that"s perverted!

Oreo   June 16th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

What happened to free speech? Did someone put a hold on the Bill of Rights?

kpawlak   June 16th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

What a bunch of hypocrites. When Don Imus came under fire he apologized numerous times and then was fired but, when someone from the left comes under fire, it's no big deal and after all he is a comedian. Oh, I guess everything is ok then.

If for example, Dennis Miller made a comment similar about one of Obama's daughters, wife or any prominent from the left his career and life would be in ruins. There would be a firestorm in the media.

Different standards.

B in Pittsburgh   June 16th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

CAN WE GET OVER THIS ALREADY?!?!?! So a late night comedian made a stupid/improper joke, and he apologized for it–twice!! Reality check-comedians make stupid/improper jokes all of the time. If you don't like the joke, that comedian's sense of humor, or you are offended by what he/she says, you can–guess what!– turn the channel!! It's not like these guys arent out there passing laws or charting the direction of this nation, they tell jokes, and some are going to bomb–so get over it!

These nutjob protesters who are out there protesting a bad joke need to get out and actually focus their time and energy on something more productive to our society–like helping the poor, feeding the hungry, aiding the sick, etc. etc.

This is all nothing but a political stunt to distract us from the real problems facing this country.

Brian mesaAZ   June 16th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

Why must CNN put the same level of reporting on these non-issues as they do on say, an unbiased review of the administrations plan for fixing the health care system in the US. Leave this stuff to Rush Limberger. If I wanted this type of garbage I would watch and read FOX.

Christopher   June 16th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

I'm so glad that 1/4th of CNN.com's front page has been dedicated to this PRESSING COVERAGE over the last few days. Seriously, stop giving press to Palin, save this crap for Jerry Springer.

Really?   June 16th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

Sarah Palin is absolutley ridiculous. She just needs to stay put in Alaska, hunt wolves from helicopters and eat a bunch of snow in hopes it will freeze her mouth shut.

Bigotry > Hate > Home Grown Terrorism   June 16th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

@ Mark

The reason you don't hear as much about the President's children is because the President & First Lady work very hard to keep their children out of the limelight so their lives can be as "normal" as possible. This is a sign of good parenting, Mark.

The reason the press (not just Letterman) aren't so kind to the Palin children is because Sarah Palin and Todd Palin work very hard to use their children for political gain at every opportunity. This is a sign of bad parenting, Mark.

Moderate Democrat   June 16th, 2009 12:59 pm ET

The joke wasn't funny (although it borders on reality, since we all know that the oldest of the Palin girls DOES have underage sex). But what this really proves, is that Palin is a frail little coward, alot like five time draft dodger Cheney!

Just more proof that republicans are too frail and easily hurt to ever run anything.

Ken   June 16th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

Now we see who is really out of work, with extra time on their hands, and ready to live on the dole. A bunch of jobless rightwing drama queens protesting in NY....all over a bad joke. Good grief....they had 8 years to protest someting of real significance, the worst joke of all....and they didn't even budge off their lazy behinds, except to stand up a cheer on cue when their lord Limbaugh told them everything was OK. What a bunch of moronic rightwing lemmings.

Melissa   June 16th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

Palin is such a fraud. She can't answer legitimate questions from real journalist or stand up to real criticism for her ignorance but she can attack a late night comedian for telling a bad joke. She is the joke!

Bob   June 16th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

The right wing gets nutty as days go by... Mr. Letterman stand up and say it like it is: It's a darn joke; get over it.

Jim   June 16th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

How about talking about who killed more Americans, Bin Laden or Bush?

dave   June 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

This guy, Ziegler, sounds like a ultra conservative freak.

Dameun   June 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

These so-called conservatives are ridiculous...the only true conservatives aren't white and and upper-middle class. I'd like to hear from some reall conservatives for a change. I might buy the argument from a Latina or an African American conservative. I cannot wait for 2025.

Joe Cool   June 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

I agree with Denise. All these sub topics are just distracting from real domestic and world issues going on. No one cares about Palin vs. Letterman...it's just stupid

Mick   June 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

Mike TX June 16th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Silly conservatives, only the left can hurl insults without retribution!"

Right, Mike...Palin really paid for her racist, hateful, stir up the mob remarks in the campaign regarding a man she had never met. Just how was she held accountable for that? And, gee, Rush is still on the air after hoping for Obama's (and the nation's) failure. And Sean Hannity is allowed to feign outrage nightly over every little thing Obama does or does not do. Same with Glenn Beck. I fail to see any accountability for the far right nutjobs. Not to mention the NRA who scares people into buying ever more weapons, leading to the recent deaths of whole families, and assassinations. But keep blaming the left for everything. No solutions, just blame and fear mongering.

Lucullus   June 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

Good lord hasn't this non-event gone on long enough! It was a bad joke. Poor taste and unfeeling but that's all it was a joke. Letterman apologized what more does the media want. Can you imagine what this country would be like today had the puppy dog press and the American Sheeple had reacted with the same amount of outrage to the Supreme Court foisting an unqualified moron on this country as it does to this meaningless event?

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   June 16th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

Mr. Ziegler, I don't think it's wise for you to be protesting in NYC where majority of New Yorkers despise Sarah Palin. You may want to watch your back, seriously!

Dave   June 16th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

"More liberal idiots who spend too much time complaining about conservatives and republicans while they wait for their welfare checks. Get a life and get a job."

- Liberals need to get a job
June 16, 12:52pm

-------------------------------

Here's a newsflash: you're the perfect example of why we liberals laugh at you right-wing idiots. You couldn't have demonstrated it better if you tried.

ThinkAboutIt   June 16th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

If Sarah Palin doesn't want crass jokes being made about her, then she should stop leading a very public, white trash life.

- Unwed, pregnant, teenage daughter.
- Public feud with the father of her grandchild (and his family).
- Constant whining about how everyone is out to get her.
- Talking out of both sides of her mouth (New York City is good enough to pander to in the name of 9/11, but otherwise, isn't "real America")

Steph   June 16th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

Moving on to important news of the day...

Paul - NJ   June 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

We now live in the age where everyone is thin-skinned and can be offended by anything and everything. Where in the constitution does it say we have the right to not be offended? Seriously, if you are that offended, then stop watching Letterman. Don't patronize his sponsors. But a rally outside Letterman's theater? There's definitely a different motivation there. Ziegler's not fighting a noble cause, he's drumming up publicity so he can make more money.

For once, I would like to hear about a comedian who refuses to apologize. Like so many of you have said, he's a comedian. He makes jokes for a living, often at others' expense. Get over it.

TangledThorns   June 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

MSNBC's David Shuster was suspended for saying Hillary Clinton was 'pimping Chelsea Clinton' during the 2008 Democratic primaries. Apparently MSNBC has more accountability.

Dameun   June 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Hey Misty,

Dave married his baby's mama...where is Bristol's babydaddy? He ran far like the flockofseagulls. Hmm and what about Sarah's affair. We haven't forgotten. Seems a far stretch for the Palins to be pushing family values. Rumor has it that this wasn't Bristol's first pregnancy.

Richard L   June 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Where is Palin's apology? She basically called Letterman a pervert and child molester. He was joking. She was serious.

Palin owes him an apology. You betcha!

Trade Freedom for Security, Lose Both   June 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Too bad the American public is not applying the same standards of professional conduct to Imus and Letterman.

Allan   June 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Welcome to CNN's Palin Ticker. All Palin, all the time.

Next up on the Palin Ticker:

Sarah eats grilled cheese sandwich for lunch!

Sarah gets manicure, changes nail color!

Sarah parents her children!

Oh wait, that last one will never happen...

mary   June 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

All this hoopla over a joke about her daughter getting knocked up under nose-sounds familiar-is nothing more than Sarah trying to get attention being the GOP refused to let her speak. Fake outrage....plain and simple. She sure pushed ole Newt off the news, so it must have worked for her. Letterman didn't owe the second apology. He's a comedian for goodness sakes!

Jeff   June 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

I like how "Alex Rodriguez knocking up Sarah Palin's daughter" is automatically construed as a "rape joke" by these PC conservatives.

Of course it's automatically rape when it involves a Latino man and a white girl...

Royster   June 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Ziegler hops on the publicity bandwagon! Is he the same one who protested the movie 'The Golden Compass'??

Will Palin and Ziegler go after Satrday Night Live next? Then 'Comedy Central'??? Colbert look out?!?!?!?!

Censorship is alive and well in the GOP!

Independent   June 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Ziegler ignores the importance of forgiveness.
Ziegler ignore's Letterman's apology.
Ziegler panders shamelessly to right wing nut jobs.

Jilli   June 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Good. Maybe when they're finished they could stop by the McCains and protest the comments he made about Chelsea Clinton. Afterwards, they could stop at Russ DePass's abode for his gorilla comments about Michelle Obama.

This is just more manufactured selective outrage to keep the wasilla hillbillies in the spotlight. Perhaps she should just give up her hopes for national office and look for a job with The View or Entertainment Tonight – she's much better suited for that stage.

Porky   June 16th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

If NBC can fire Don Imus then CBS "SHOULD" fire Dave Letterman.

Palin overdose

we dont care who is reporting on palin we care that a MORON like palin could actually be elected as a public official. so many of these politicians are just plain stupid. the type of people that dont believe in evolution should not be in charge of ANYTHING! we dont like palin because she is an idiot. her foreign policy experience will never be forgotten. and it disgusts us. and what disgusts us even more is people that actually LIKE HER!!!

ThinkAboutIt   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Can you imagine if Palin had gotten elected? (gag!)

- First, censorship of anyone who criticizes her. Next, throwing people in jail for it.

- Disagree with her religious views? Censorship, then jail.

- Disagree with her foreign policy? Called a traitor, then thrown in jail.

- Disagree with her domestic policy? Called an "agitator", then thrown in jail.

Palin is an egomaniac who can't handle the fact that she was rejected, her views were rejected, the majority of Americans agree she's not very bright, and SHE LOST!

There was no "media malpractice", there was no "targeting". SHE LOST!

Palin needs to see a shrink, work through her meglomania and learn how to deal with the fact that she doesn't always get what she wants.

The woman is pathetic!

TjayeInLA   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Wow! Anything to get attention. Republicans are really starting to become the Petty Party.

Plain and simple, he was talking about the one who got knocked up in the first place. She didn't have a problem with Leno's joke or Conan's joke on the same daughter. This is just because she's been out of the news and needs attention. But, its a good thing. With a circus act like hers, even the GOP wouldn't be stupid enough to run her again. But, then again....

Disgusted   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Good thing our country isn't at war right now... oh wait...

Ryan in VA   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Wait, wait, wait... Do you mean to tell me that these idiots are protesting a JOKE, but Limbaugh, O'Reily, Coulter, et al can spout hate-speech day in and day out and don't warrant any sort of proverbial "slap on the wrist?" ...and I'm supposed to believe Letterman's apology was "self-serving?" I think the definition of self-serving resides in Ziegler's mirror!

Dawn in Pa   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

he apologized, not once but twice, move on, next post....

SonnyCJM   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Letterman is still a fantastic comedian who made a funny joke. He does the same kind of material everyday, only reffering to Britney Spears or Paris Hilton. Why are political figures off-limits? The real joke here is Palin's unwed-barely-out-of-high-school-with-a-newborn- daughter preaching abstinence as a means of birth control... The only reason he apologized is because his job is being threatened. in his heart you know he is rolling his eyes.

bill   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

I think letterman likes the young ones.........

jeff   June 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

Why is CNN dragging this on and on and on and on..... ?
Letterman is an idiot, Palin likes attention, let's move on already!

bystander   June 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Can we not move on with more important things? Do we have to stay on the playground for the recess scuffle?

Denise   June 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

CNN – would you please be so kind as to move on?? Enough already. There are serious political protests going on in Iran and you have spent DAYS on this silly topic. Are you a news network or an on-line tabloid?

Dave   June 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

There's nothing funnier than righteous indignation from these right-wing nut jobs. I wonder how John Ziegler feels about Michelle Obama being compared to a gorilla by some knuckle-dragging hick from South Carolina. Doesn't that warrant a protest too? Funny, but I don't hear him crying about that.

Chickenhawk   June 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Letterman has apologized (twice) for the joke. If Sarah Palin is half the Christian she claims to be, shouldn't she forgive him? She's only using the situation to further her own political career. No doubt she loves her children, but she continually exploits them for publicity and personal gain - more than any comedian would ever attempt. And Ziegler is only riding her Republican-Party paid coattails. Now that's pathetic.

Dan   June 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

The only thing Letterman should be apologizing for is bringing Palin back into the news!

Go away Sarah Palin! The only change we need is the media's coverage of you!

Sniffit   June 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

More liberal idiots who spend too much time complaining about conservatives and republicans while they wait for their welfare checks. Get a life and get a job.

Richard   June 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

David Letterman is an American who has the freedom of speech to say whatever he wants, whenever he wants. So what if a joke he told was percieved to be insensitive to Sarah Palin. He apologized and life moves on. We have far greater issues in this country then to worry about a joke that did or didn't amuse the American viewers of his show. The Radio guy should simpily shut up cause no one really cares what he is saying. David Letterman and Sarah Palin kissed and made up...End of story...

Abby   June 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

Let this go, Mr zeigler, or you will make her into more of a caricature than he already is. You are not serving her by making her look small and ungracious.

Susie   June 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

Google John Ziegler...he's hardly the bedrock Conservative he wants people to think he is...he's in it for the money and notoriety, just like Sarah.

Robin in Tampa, FL   June 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

Letterman apologized twice for his remarks and Palin (finally) accepted his apology. So why is this continuing? You can beat a dead horse for just so long.

Dameun   June 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

Wait wasn't Zeigler the name of that jerk in Moulon Rouge that really only cared about money and ticket sales? Nuff Said. People will see this for what its worth-a publicity stunt.

don kraus   June 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

What is wrong with these people? Do they want a quart of Letterman's blood? The man apologized, dutifully. Palin and her "minions" should stop whining and start thinking about things that REALLY matter in this country. I'm sick of Rock-Star-Politicians and their inability to "GET OVER IT!"

REPUBLICAN'Ts

katiec   June 16th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

These misguided people will do anything to get the headlines, including Palin. Where are they when the right wing media and the republicans make their obnoxious, racial remarks? On other webs, of course not CNN, there were listed numerous remarks made by comedians, commentators and republicans, very detrimental to their victims.
And, for Palin to state she represents intelligent women is almost as bad as Letterman's joke.

Sniffit   June 16th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

I find the neocon GOPer persecution complex to be fantastically hilarious. Next thing you know, we'll have Pat Robertson being interviewed on national TV claiming that this is another sign of the persecution of Christians.

Lazlo   June 16th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

Ken in NC   June 16th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

I think David Letterman crossed the line. He has apologized for it and now it needs to be put to rest by all involved. I'm told that in Northern Alaska they have 6 months of day and 6 months of night. Maybe Gov. Palin needs to go up there and sleep for 5 or 6 months.

A woman who has aspirations for the presidency in 2012,

Gary   June 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Palin & Company are trying to use this situation just for the media attention. Why can't the GOP just let it drop? Letterman apologized twice, How about we let the matter go to sleep.

Dave S, Tinley Park, IL   June 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Pathetic! Even without seeing the show I knew the joke was referring to her older daughter. Just goes to prove she doesnt have the brains to be in public office. And when are these self-righteous right wing bible thumpers going to realize that part of what makes it funny, is that they go around acting so pure while they're closets are full of skeletons (Palin, Ted Stevens, etc etc etc)? Just another transparent attempt to gain attention to herself.

JW   June 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

I don't think Letterman should have apologized. Screw Pallin. If you choose a life in the public eye and want to parade your children in front of the world for your own gain, then you should deal with any jokes or jabs that come your way. She's faking it anyway. She just wants the publicity. I wish Letterman would be honest and say what's really on his mind!

LacrosseMom   June 16th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

Ziegler might want to consider promoting his career with legitimate substantive commentary instead of self-serving publicity stunts...then again, he might not...he is a neocon after all.

Christie N.   June 16th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Palin needs to realize that if you are in the public spotlight people are gonna crack jokes on you and your family especially considering she carried her family with her on the campaign. Her story is just so ironic though. Mom campaigning for abstinence while daughter is having sex and then gets pregnant. She set herself up for jokes. Conservatives made many worse comments towards John McCains daughter. Get over yourself Palin.

It amazes me the lack of focus reporting on this my CNN. Don Imus was headline news on this site when he put his foot in his mouth. This Letterman case is worse, you can easily make the case that it was 'pre-meditated' and it took 5 days for an apology. Clearly, once some liberal organizations started complaining, Dave decided he better apologize. I have to go to other web sites to get complete coverage. In the end, of course, news organizations are not fair and they tend to push their ideology.

here we go   June 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Just shows how many morons are out there. Have these people nothing better to do. Obviously this comes under the heading
"Get a Life." These people, with the same i,q. as their shoe size, are obviously suffering from mass hysteria. The only joke really is Sarah
(if I only had a brain) Palin plus her uneducated hatchlings.

John   June 16th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

The Protest is Politically Motivated and Instigated by Palin.

There is nothing Wrong to say: “Palin’s Daughter got Knocked up”, because it is the Truth.

75% girls gets Knocked up before even they turn 18, this is True, so why should it be wrong to say the Truth.

katy Heys   June 16th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

This is the same Sarah Palin who used her office to go after her ex brother-in-law. She appears to be very petty. I can't imagine how she thinks this will help her if she runs for office in future.

JoseOle   June 16th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Well this Ziegler fool is trying to drum up support for a nonissue. It sounds like another Tea Party. Dozens of people are here to call for Letterman's head.

CF   June 16th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

Still waiting for Palin's apologies for all the lies and slander she speaks every time she opens her mouth.

As a public personality, she is open fodder for satire and criticism. Letterman did nothing wrong. Palin needs to get a clue.

Chris ~ Albany, NY   June 16th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

It was a joke from a comedian...get over it!

Lisa P   June 16th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

I hope Letterman makes a joke about this guy Ziegler and his ridiculous self-serving "protest" (with tea bags or without, I wonder?). I don't usually tune in but I think I will tonight just to see what happens. Nothing like a little manufactured controversy to boost the ratings - maybe Letterman should thank Ziegler after skewering him :-)

MyBadd   June 16th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Can we please move on, this rally sounds self-serving!

Anonymous   June 16th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

I can't believe how moronic this Palin character is.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   June 16th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

Ziegler needs to get a life. It's done with. Bill Maher says way more harsher things about the Palin family than Letterman does. As long as Sarah Palin remains do be in the public spotlight, the jokes are going to keep on coming. I frankly care how harsh they are because I despise everything she stands for. Everything!!!

renea   June 16th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

protesting for what the man already aplogize what more do can he do. Sarah Palin can either accept or not accept as simple as that. If she does not accept this apology i really would wonder what was this really all about. Than too the media is giving this too much attention.

mark   June 16th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

I'd like to hear something about Obama's kids. Talk about cruxifiction.

Joan   June 16th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

Well, I think that Palin wants to be noticed and will do anything to get the attention !!!! Does that woman know when to let go !!!!

Palin – it is time to GO -- Please -- as far as possible would be my wish !!!!!

Eric   June 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

The joke was funny. So is the porno spoof of Palin...

slc   June 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Yes there should be change but may I suggest we start with the monster who raped a 4yr old and only got a 1 yr prison sentence (on CNN homepage), and not the guy who said a bad joke.

Belle2   June 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

What does this say about our society–that an audience would laugh at this joke. Everyone needs to ask themselves if they would have laughed if the joke had been about Obama's daughters. I am a Democrat but an apology is not enough. This is not about Letterman; it is about our society. How can we think this is funny?

@BigMisterC   June 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

This is so asnine. Where's the protest over the first lady being compared to a Gorilla by that SC politician?

Margot   June 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Three words for John Ziegler – GET A HOBBIE!!!

Enough   June 16th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

Don Imus was forced to resign over his comment, then so should David Letterman. Imus apologized, it had to be dragged out of Letterman.

Fordy in Jamaica   June 16th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

Don't these people have Jobs?? Or at least shouldn't they be out looking for jobs? America sure has a lot of idle hands on its hands.

Cromwell   June 16th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

It's time to let it go.

Letterman was wrong and now he has admitted that he was wrong and apologized.

There are far more important matters that these people can spend their time on.

Patrick - Indianapolis   June 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Well lets hope it rains, lets hope it pours. How about a raining frogs? Know where I'm going with this??

Mobius   June 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

It was a good joke, just a little tame. Stop allowing yourself to be feminized – a joke's a joke. Get over it. Move on.
