WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. John McCain officially got the keys to his 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid on Tuesday, and promptly took it for a spin around the Russell Senate office building in Washington - but not before accidentially tripping the car alarm.

Before jumping in, McCain was overheard remarking that his new ride features a voice-activated navigation system and Sirius satellite radio.

Riding shotgun was McCain's buddy Lindsey Graham, who joked as he got into the passenger seat: "I hope I live to tell about this."

Bush has a higher I.Q. than Obama. ( I dare anyone to actually prove both test scores.)
"White trash" is racist.

So he has a vehicle and can make a prefect three-point turn. Tripping security alarms happens all the time. Where's the news? Put some effort into the piece. Was he showing off his GREEN vehicle? Was it taxpayer provided, etc? Would comparisons bring depth to the piece?Obama has a pimped out vehicle that cost a few times more than the presidents' usual rides.

how can the people blame politicians for partisian bickering instead of creating solutions, when by reading these posts it seems that the populace at large simply engages in the same non-constructive diatribe rhetoric. The end result of the democratic process is directly linked to the quality of its citizens political debate. You can bash Rush or Democratic progressive radio, but the truth is we are all engaging in the same three second information bite intended to attack personalities instead of working on solutions, that the talk radio heads do.

GM was restructured to avoid liquidation, which probably saved close to a million jobs, it was what was needed to renegotiate its labor contracts, and become more productive and eliminate massive waste of resources. These idiots that use the term 'Obama Motors' are clueless. I guess the Republican approach should have been taken of 'do nothing' let the company be liquidated all jobs with suppliers, manufacturers etc go down the tank at the same time, or we could have just taken the approach Bush did and throw money at them continuously and not force them to change their practices. We might not ever get a dime back from what we have done with GM, but the alternative would have been far worse and had dire consequences on the economy, at least now they are still afloat and have the option to rebuild and try to become profitable again.

in response to bob it seems to me the haterd started jan.20th omama has tried to focus on the agendas. every step of the way he has been blocked and the party that was put out of power still think they are on the playground. everytime a measure is proposed a group is insulted the proposals they present are not passed. obama said this is a time of change, not business as usual. it seems the current adminn is blamed for everything that goes wrong. we ttried trickle down plans now lets try a fair and balanced monatary system

John McCain is a hero. He's a moderate Republican who demonstrated character and sportsmanship when he conceded the election.

Remember Ford didn't take our tax dollars. When Obama tries to raise our taxes, please remember that Ford didn't take our money. Buy Ford, not GM or Chrysler...

Vote against Obama, against GM and Chrysler. It is the only way that they will learn their lessons.

Watch the commercials? haha...that's exactly how OBama hooked you in the first place...infommericals.... GM's going nowhere...people won't buy them....the majority of the country resented the bailout..and Ford's got brownie points for backing off. GM and Chrysler both look weak, and people don't want to buy where they'll feel it won't be covered. As far as OBama spewing that he'll cover the warranty...well, that grease monkey, and I use that term loosely, doesn't keep his word very well.....Ford gets the respect, because they EARNED it...

GI Joe   June 16th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

Sirius radio? Is that his direct line from Limbaugh for daily talking points?

Anyway – all his ranting about bullying Iran right now (instead of diplomacy, and health care and all the other stuff going on here) reminds me of when he quit his campaign to go back and push Bush's stimulus package thru.

Just saying .....

Adam in TX   June 16th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to these "silly" articles, but I like reading stuff like this. Although I liked Obama better, I didn't dislike McCain. I like knowing he's invested in Ford, and as someone pointed out, one of the big 3 that actually didn't take bailout money. McCain is a good man and lost the election. Obama is a good man and won the election. What amazes me is how a simple article about McCain buying a Ford fusion ignites such hate speech from people on both sides of America's political environment.

Anytime a conservative says something, you know right away that a liberal can't defend, they always come back with the "bitter, hater, line...classic...dude...keep on signing the coke song and riding your unicorn. Then, when you actually have a job, and OBama's taxing you so much to pay for the entitlements for the lazy slackers of this country...perhaps, then, maybe, you'll wise up. @NYC REPUB -

I wouldn't say GOP's want gas guzzlers...that's like saying all obama supporters are ignorant....there's one or two with some sense.

Anyway, the batteries used in these hybrids put just as much pollution on the planet as do conventional gas engines. In addition, the mileage difference is not at a premium level just yet, to justify the increase in price. Honda was working with a hydrogen car...prototypes are sold in CA, I believe. We (conservatives) don't want pollution as much as the most liberal-squeaking lib; we just don't want the gov't trying to do anything associated with efficiency...or requires a certain level of competence. Now that OBama's in office, and lies through his teeth on every public speaking occasion...we really don't want the gov't involved.

Zoeysmom90281   June 16th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

I'm with Sniffit on this one and you're off rambling about Obamobiles. Watch a GM commercial and get a clue! GM are keeping the good brands and getting rid of the useless ones. Not to mention with the new emission standards set in place to get 30 mpgs to every vehicle, it's a good step forward. I guess you're fine with the U..S. not having an auto industry.

David   June 16th, 2009 5:35 pm ET

Congrats Senator McCain! We appreciate you supporting our American Automakers. Is it really so hard for people on here to be happy for someone? It's not a requirement to say something negative about a person just because you didn't vote for them.

I would never vote for John McCain who is responsible for the Palin cancer that's been growing in America, but it's ok for him to be happy about buying a new car.

1. The "Big Three" asked Obama to RESCUE them.

2. Ford did not need to be rescued, so we, the People do not own them.

3. Chrysler & GM, FAILED ALL by themselves! And then came BEGGING for TAXPAYER MONEY.

OBAMA DOES NOT OWN CHRYSLER OR GM, WE ALL DO!

Pat   June 16th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

I just have to say, phoenix86, in my opinion you are just an ass! Every comment I've ever seen by you has been incredibly stupid and uninformed.

Lauren   June 16th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Number one who cares,,,,,

number two, your going to get almost all comments slamming McCain because immature liberals can not find anything else to do but insult MCain and Palin. Even after they won.

mike   June 16th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

it's news because a person that old isn't normally able to drive. even his buddy in the passenger seat thought they were going to die with mccain at the wheel.

Gracie   June 16th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

So WHAT? He's still got the mercedes and the porches at his seven other mansions. This is so very stupid.

Mario, mtl, ca.   June 16th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

How many cars he got as today's date??????????????????

phoenix86   June 16th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

Sniffit,

Stop sniffing. It has wrecked your mind. No one is going to be Obamobiles in sufficient quantity to allow GM to survive without further government subsidies. The government won't let GM go once they see that they can channel money from GM to the government.

Your naivete is past pathetic.

Sniffit   June 16th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

@ phoenix, who said "Obama Motors and the UAW are going to put Ford out of business. Ford, while a good company, can't compete with a federally funded automobile company."

Right, because GM's bankruptcy is indicative of it being in such wonderful shape that it's going to run right out and produce 60 million cars that gets sold in 3 weeks flat and thereby take over the entire US auto market. Are you ignorant or do you know you're lying?

MJM   June 16th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Why is this news???

arc, Lugano CH   June 16th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

I didn't vote for him....would never vote for him in a million years. But let the guy go for a drive with his buddy...leave him alone for 20 minutes...

JonDie   June 16th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

This is news?

ge   June 16th, 2009 5:03 pm ET

must be a freebee hope he pays the tax on it

Hmmmm   June 16th, 2009 5:03 pm ET

Good Lord, Joe m. What are you talking about?

Respect   June 16th, 2009 5:03 pm ET

Why is it ok to pay for foreign medical cost but not pay for American medical cost with taxpayer dollars? We are currently at war and our taxpaying dollars are paying for these countries citizens and their medical bills because we are rebuilding these countries. Where is the outrage on that republicans?

Ironically, we are paying for this on borrowed money from China and Saudia Arabia and this debt is being put on our children. Where is the outrage republicans?

See how stupid you look!

Claudia in Houson   June 16th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

For the first time McCain purchased an American made car to park along side his many foreign made cars. Does he really have a drivers license because Cindy always drives him around.

This is "News"?   June 16th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

Great Photo Op but were are McCain's policy proposals to reduce America's addiction to foreign oil? The silence is deafening.

joe m   June 16th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

ok, before those hateful people decide to make snarky remarks, who today hasn't had issues with figuring out all the bells and whistles with new cars? i travel a lot and have to drive lots of different cars and find myself setting off the alarm, locking the doors instead of opening it, or pushing the wrong button and having the car stop. so. for those people who want to view this as an opportunity to prove that mccain is somehow senile, incompetent, or whatever else... get over yourselves.

joe smith   June 16th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

very nice to see our tax dollars finally going into, one, an American product, and an equally efficient one. We hope he doesn't do anything foolish like introduce legislation that would tax highspeed internet service or veiwing the US Open on analog T.V...

Willy Brown   June 16th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

The old fart needs to retire as well as Kennedy, Byrd, Spector and all that have been in Congress for more than 12 years..

Sniffit   June 16th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

One would think...and rightly so...that operating a car is more difficult than typing an email. Let's hope he does a better job than he did crashing three F16s...otherwise he might be doing penance by being the one who finally proposes some sort of regulation regarding more frequent testing of elderly drivers. And hear I had him pegged as a horse-n-buggy kinda guy...

Longhorn#1   June 16th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

Smart man. Unlike some other I heard of.

phoenix86   June 16th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   June 16th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

Which one of his 13 driveways is he going to park it in?

Brian G, Sugar Land, TX   June 16th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

Whopty doo! Ya know in his youth, John, had to trade in his horse for a Model T.
