Racist e-mail aimed at Obama raises hackles in Tennessee

(CNN) – The chairman of Tennessee's Democratic Party wants a Republican legislative aide fired for sending out a "reprehensible" e-mail depicting President Obama as two cartoonish white eyes peering from a black background.

Obama's image is in the last square of a collage containing portraits of the previous 43 U.S. presidents. Copies of the e-mail were posted on the Internet Monday.

Sherri Goforth, an administrative assistant to state Sen. Diane Black, R-Gallatin, has admitted she sent the e-mail May 28 with the title "Historical Keepsake Photo." She said, without elaborating, that she mistakenly sent it "to the wrong list of people."

According to the Tennessean, a Nashville newspaper, a note on the e-mail said it was paid for by the Tennessee Republican Party, but GOP officials denied that they produced it. Black chairs the Senate Republican Caucus.

Wait a sec, CNN's running this regional story about an isolated email from a bigoted aide, yet it doesn't have the stones to run the story about the completely underhanded canning of Inspector General Gerald Walpin–a canning that goes against Obama's own ethics bill?

Yes, this email is reprehensible. But, like I said, it's isolated and not from any individual of consequence (an administrative aide to a state senator? COME ON!). This is just....not newsworthy. Not compared to the REAL issues at hand.

Next up on the political ticker: AREA MAN INSULTS YOUR MOMMA!

The GOP is a party predominately made up of racists. The GOP is white and small (small minded as well).

The GOP keeps digging itself a hole. The hole is now alsmot deep enough for The Drugster to fit in.

Keep up this kind of nonsense and maybe the GOP can win the governorship in Alaska .......

    Way to lower the bar!
And who exactly was on the "right" list of people?
I'd like to see that list made public!

According to the Tennessean, a Nashville newspaper, a note on the e-mail said it was paid for by the Tennessee Republican Party, but GOP officials denied that they produced it. Black chairs the Senate Republican Caucus.

Is anyone really surprised by any vile nasty thing the GOP sinks to these days?

She's sorry she sent it to the 'wrong' list of people, eh? Not sorry she's a bigot, because she doesn't have to apologize for that, in the minds of the Right (free speech?). The fact that this came from a political office and was paid for by a political group is very telling – thought I bet she gets a promotion and the Right compares this to Letterman's joke (apples and oranges, my friends).

If we wait long enough, the truth comes out. In this case, we learned the GOP has issues with our President being black (or 1/2 black, as they love to point out). I'd like to see the 'right' list she meant to send it to. You know, the list of politicians who she knows will find this hilarious.....

so of course, if the "Right" set of people had received it instead – it would have been just fine – no harm done... When you speak about the love of country and the good of the American people. bear in mind that you are a part of the problem spreading hatred and discord in this nation.
It is not funny, ok? There are many of us who truly want to move on, and then there are those like you stuck in the lowest bowels of the worst of human nature. Grow up.

    Dear Sherri Goforth,

Please do the honorable thing and resign already.

This is much bigger than you.

You are a representative of a party.

And there is no room for error.

There is a much bigger fight going on for the good of the country.

    Please resign already.

This is a perfect example where firing a person in this circumstances is to be considered seriously because they do not apologizr and in fact they have the F....nerve to say it was sent to the wrong email list. In other word they got caught and they do not feel any remorse of their racist attitude!

Yeh, the aid sent it to the "wrong" list of people all right. It was really only meant for those "real americans" hanging on to the rightwing underbelly of this nation. .....anybody want to hold their breath for an apology over this "bad joke"? ......anybody want to hold their breath waiting for the Letterman protesters in NY to then travel to Tennessee to show their indignation over this?

The rightwing genepool needs some investigation. Something has contaminated it recently. Our ancestors would never have survived if they displayed the stupidity that is so clearly evident in today's rightwing.

No doubt she was scolded for gettig her mailing list mixed up. She was supose to send it to the group of hard-core, racist, hate-filled, angry supporters who desporately cling to such propaganda. GOP keeps the red meat flowing to this Tenn. monster they continue to stoke, while they kid them selves that they can keep it contained and also present a second face and third face to the more moderate crowd.
