Racist e-mail aimed at Obama raises hackles in Tennessee

(CNN) - The chairman of Tennessee's Democratic Party wants a Republican legislative aide fired for sending out a "reprehensible" e-mail depicting President Obama as two cartoonish white eyes peering from a black background.

Obama's image is in the last square of a collage containing portraits of the previous 43 U.S. presidents. Copies of the e-mail were posted on the Internet Monday.

Sherri Goforth, an administrative assistant to state Sen. Diane Black, R-Gallatin, has admitted she sent the e-mail May 28 with the title "Historical Keepsake Photo." She said, without elaborating, that she mistakenly sent it "to the wrong list of people."

According to the Tennessean, a Nashville newspaper, a note on the e-mail said it was paid for by the Tennessee Republican Party, but GOP officials denied that they produced it. Black chairs the Senate Republican Caucus.

This is part of the reason why Republicans, in the south especially, are looked upon by many as backward hicks living in another century. No matter what your political leanings, we should respect the office of the presidency, even though we may not agree with policies of whatever administration is in power. I also feel that this staffer should be fired. To not do so, would be to send a message that the office of State Senator Black approves of such conduct. To say that the e-mail was send to the "wrong list of people" does not serve as an apology.

I'm from TN and am absolutely appalled! She is sorry she sent it to the "wrong list" and got caught, but she isn't apologizing for sending this racist trash in the first place.
Diane Black says she doesn't condone this type of behavior, but obviously she does or she would have fired her on the spot.
I guess I'll apologize for them... Sorry, Mr. President that you still have to deal with such racists and bigots. Not all of us are like that.

What else is new? Today's Republicans are either uneducated and ignorant or they are truly mentally ill. The only good people they have are people like Colin Powell, and they are just wanting him and people like him to quit.

the fact that the staffer sent this e-mail at all proves that she is a bigot and does not belong in a government job. the fact that she said she "sent it to the wrong list of people" is unbelievable. the fact that she doesn't realize sending it to any person is beyond wrong. it proves she enjoyed the picture, she endorsed the picture and she is friends with other bigots and she should be gone from her job!! period!!! Never underestimate the ingorance of people!!!!

do you wonder what she is teaching her children?

Can we make a picture of Bush wearing a bib and a helmet with a brick tied to the top while riding the short bus or would that be in bad taste, Palin? Apparently, she's the arbiter of what constitutes good and bad taste for the week. My guess is she wouldn't like it: the GOP is full of retards, but not really all that full of black people, so we'll have to go with the racist pics of Obama instead, right?

I think the right wing GOP's have a lot of nerve to be trying to exploit Rev Wright as a racist radical. These GOP's are the party of bigotry. We have no place in the United States for this behavior and that's why they LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and always will lose. Whites are no longer the majority when you add all the minority races together. Go figure.

The American people and the World already know that the GOP is just a front for White Supremacists and Right Wing Extremists. So this is not a surprise at all. It's more of what's 'expected' from the GOP from top to bottom. Even when they try and hide behind the Independent label, their true identity comes out loud and clear.

The girl should be sent to North Korea. They will know how to deal with her.

OK, I am a strong supporter of Obama, but we should not be so politically correct that we would fire someone over one bit of crude humor. Let's not become censorious.

  17. GOP or RIP?

"I went on the wrong e-mail and I inadvertently hit the wrong button," Grantham quoted Goforth as saying. "I'm very sick about it, and it's one of those things I can't change or take back."

Nice- just upset that you sent it to the wrong people, not that you are a racist. Thankfully she got reprimanded. I would hate for an employee that uses their companies equipment (let alone taxpayers) to produce and distribute racist propaganda without a slap on the the wrist. The slap on the wrist makes everything alright. Besides, she is very upset, so I imagine next time, she will make sure to send her racist materials to the "right" group of people.

So as I posted in the Palin thing, it's not a good thing to make fun of a republican. But they are allowed to slur and slam democrats and nothing is to be said. This just reinforces my previous statement.

And THEY say that Racism is dead? This Republican caucus Leader
should fire her aide and then call for FORGIVENESS!
Isn't this what Palin wants Letterman to do every day?

Sick. Haven't they learned from the last two terrorist acts? The murder of Dr.Tiller in church and the shooting at the Holocaust Museum all sprout from ignorance like this.
