Racist e-mail aimed at Obama raises hackles in Tennessee

(CNN) – The chairman of Tennessee's Democratic Party wants a Republican legislative aide fired for sending out a "reprehensible" e-mail depicting President Obama as two cartoonish white eyes peering from a black background.

Obama's image is in the last square of a collage containing portraits of the previous 43 U.S. presidents. Copies of the e-mail were posted on the Internet Monday.

Sherri Goforth, an administrative assistant to state Sen. Diane Black, R-Gallatin, has admitted she sent the e-mail May 28 with the title "Historical Keepsake Photo." She said, without elaborating, that she mistakenly sent it "to the wrong list of people."

According to the Tennessean, a Nashville newspaper, a note on the e-mail said it was paid for by the Tennessee Republican Party, but GOP officials denied that they produced it. Black chairs the Senate Republican Caucus.

Oh, so the problem from that assistant's perspective is not that it's racist, but that she sent it to the wrong people? Typical republican 'apology...'

What a joke. Jimmy the Greek was fired from a life time of sports broadcasting but this fat ugly twit that is a member of the republican party is allowed to represent the state of Tennessee. What a joke the republican party is. Republicans will never again be in charge until they get rid of these losers. Listening to them criticizing the President is insulting.

Disgusting. Just as disgusting as all those depictions of Bush as Hitler or Clinton as Osama bin Laden we saw over previous years. Where was the apology for those?

You have to LOVE these GOP idiots. The woman who sent it doesn't apologize for the content, but just says she sent it to the "wrong list."

Meaning that this Senator has a "right list" of people who like to get this kind of racist garbage.

And the fact that the Senator refuses to fire her speaks for itself - she's OK with the message.

Anyone in TN have the guts to start a recall - of the Senator herself?

I get Republican propaganda sent to me all the time – by some of my southern family members.

Delete Delete Delete. (works every time – don't even have to open it).

If they have something important to say, they'd better identify it as NON-POLITICAL.

My message to them is this .. Stop it! Stop it NOW!

You may not like the man but that is no reason for this.

    Give it a rest.

The bottom line is that Republicans are just Republicans. They can't help themselves. They don't recognize racism when they see it because it is in their DNA.

You gotta love the apology, "Gee, I sent it to the wrong list of people. I meant only to send it to those who would laugh."

Why does she still have a job? She said that she sent the e-mail to the wrong list.....in other words..She's not sorry for what she did she is sorry that the wrong people got the e-mail. Will she re-send it to the correct list of people tomorrow?

  12. The Party of NO is only “pro-life” to save a zygote now, so it can then kill the “babies” 18 years later as soldiers in an elective religious war.

Never mind she should be fired for using government time and assets for her personal use, and now let the rabid Reich demand that Goforth's right to freedom of speech is being assaulted.

Kinda like Dave's was elsewhere on this ticker.

Now it is apparent that the south is still bigoted, racist and uneducated. Thank God I live in the north.

These people live in a world of their own; where bigotry is the norm. They don't have the capacity to see their utter failure to accept their behavior as bigoted.

Look up ignorance in the dictionary. This exemplifies it to a tee. The only answer is education – and in examples like this, it'll take generations of education to get through it.

I am so fed up with the right wing monsters.

Trust me, they are racist, religious zealots who know less about love than Charles Manson. We can keep talking about their conservative thoughts but deep down inside we know these ring winders are ALL fear mongering beasts. Yuk.

Yep, republicans have been doing this kind of racially insensitive – or by other words, ignorant things since the presidential election. Funny thing, they see no harm is stunts like this – or DePass's comment about apes and Michelle Obama – but raise holy moly over a joke by a COMEDIAN.

Disgusting, but this apparently is the face of todays republican party. It's shameful, too bad their parents didn't raise them better.

This is happening in the United States of America?

This immoral, Godles, reprehensible and treasonable act is carried out by an elected official of the United States?

One more evidence that the Republican party shall forever remain a party of haters and despicable intollerant racists like Dianne Black, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
